                Schumacher Unveils 2012 DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupe in Frankfur

                Mercedes took the wraps off their new silver surfer that will challenge next year’s DTM. F1 ‘superstar’ drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were there today in Frankfurt to show the new AMG C-Coupe in motorsport guise.

                The new German-bread racer comes with an advanced arbon fiber monocoque plus a roll cage made of high-strength steel. To take care of the race driver, each vehicle will come equipped with six energy-absorbing crash structures, which will offer additional protection to the front, rear and sides.

                The power comes from a 4.0-liter racing V8 that puts out 500 horsepower. This is mated to a six-speed pneumatically operated sequential gearbox that shifts through steering wheel mounted paddles. To cope with the power, the DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupe has double wishbone suspension.

                “Mercedes-Benz chose the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt to present the new 2012 DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé. The new car is the successor to the AMG Mercedes C-Class, which scored 84 victories in 156 races to become the most successful vehicle in the 27-year history of the DTM. HWA AG began development, design and construction of the DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé in June 2010. The first chassis was assembled in June 2011, with the first vehicle completed in August,” the automaker says.

                “This new-generation vehicle, based on our Mercedes-Benz C- Coupé, signals the introduction of an even more spectacular racing car from the start of 2012. I am certain that the spectators will get their money's worth from the three-way fight between Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz in the DTM next year,” added Norbert Haug, Vice-President, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport.

                            Brabus fue fundada en 1977 en Bottrop (región de Ruhr), Alemania, por Klaus Brackmann y Bodo Buschmann. Se trata de una compañía de tuning de alto rendimiento especializada en automóviles Mercedes-Benz, Smart y Maybach.

                            Dirigida por Bodo Buschmann, Brabus se ha convertido con el paso del tiempo en el tuneador más importante de coches Mercedes-Benz, y no tiene ninguna relación con Mercedes-AMG, ya que AMG se convirtió en filial de Daimler AG en la década de los 90. Entre sus competidores se encuentran Lorinser, Carlsson, Kleemann y Renntech.

                            Brabus logra el máximo rendimiento de los motores aumentando su potencia y el par motor. Los clientes pueden comprar los coches directamente a Brabus, en cuyo caso Brabus compra el coche solicitado por el cliente a Mercedes y luego lo modifica según lo acordado con el cliente, o bien, pueden enviar su Mercedes ya adquirido a Brabus para su personalización y/o modificación.

                            Brabus tiene fama de ser un tuneador muy caro y se dice que en Brabus se piensa que cuando un posible cliente pide presupuesto, es que no se lo puede permitir.

                            Brabus ofrece desde simples mejoras como alerones de perfil bajo, bodykits, fibra de carbono o llantas de aleación de múltiples piezas hasta mejoras más avanzadas como el diferencial autoblocante.

                            Ocasionalmente Brabus también ha realizado tuning en coches de otras marcas como Porsche o Tesla.

                            Gut Wiesenhof is a historical manor house with outbuildings and grounds, for the renovation of which the Hartge brothers have been awarded a prize for the preservation of a historical monument. The house and outbuildings are idyllically situated in 25,000 square metres of parkland close to the borders of Germany, France and Luxembourg. Gut Wiesenhof is first mentioned in the chronicles in 1835. Following the completion of his model farm, the original owner, Baron Constantin von Briesen, began to breed thoroughbred horses. Today, the historical outbuildings house engine test benches, an electronics laboratory and– last but not least – powerful, tuned Mercedes-Benz cars. A multifarious range that stretches from the A to the S Class.

                                      Today the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth started series production of the new Actros. To mark the event, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche sat behind the wheel as the first unit of the new truck rolled off the assembly line. The vehicle was built at the company’s largest truck assembly plant. The new Actros was redeveloped from scratch, and already meets the strict Euro VI emissions limits. Compared to the previous Actros, the new model consumes six to seven percent less fuel in the Euro V variant, and three to four percent less fuel in the Euro VI variant. The vehicle is the result of more than ten years of hard work, over 20 million test driving kilometers, and more than €2 billion spent on development and production technology.

                                      Since a production launch on this scale occurs only about every 15 years in the commercial vehicle industry, the plant and its workforce began to prepare for the event years ago.

                                      “With Daimler Trucks we want to grow much faster than the market as a whole and sell more than 500,000 trucks in 2013”, said Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars in Wörth. “The new Mercedes-Benz Actros sets the benchmark among its competitors; it is our most important truck of the decade.”

                                      Flexibility at the Mercedes-Benz plant Wörth

                                      The Wörth plant produces each truck exactly in line with customer specifications. These results in a great variety of trucks so that, statistically speaking, no two vehicles produced in a single year are the same. What’s unusual about production in Wörth is that all three of the Mercedes-Benz model series (Actros, Axor, and Atego) are made here on the same assembly line. They will be joined by the new Actros, which will be integrated into the existing series production process and be assembled on the same production lines as the other current model series.

                                      More than €2 billion was spent on developing the new truck and preparing the Wörth plant and its equipment for the production launch. The company built an automated warehouse for small parts, which forms the basis for a new logistics concept. It has also established the Development and Research Center, a test track for new generations of trucks, which brings the development and production areas even closer together. The employees received extensive training that familiarized them with the new Actros’ system environment.

                                      “Our plant will remain the home of the Actros,” says Yaris Pürsün, Head of Mercedes-Benz Wörth plant. “We have thoroughly prepared ourselves for the production launch of the new Actros. To us quality made in Wörth means best quality from the very first new Actros, in terms of trucks you can trust.”

                                      Mercedes-Benz has around 12,000 employees at its Wörth plant. The first Mercedes-Benz Actros rolled off the production line in 1996, and it is now the brand’s best-selling model series, along with the Mercedes-Benz Atego and the
                                      Mercedes-Benz Axor. More than 700,000 Actros trucks have left the plant to date, and the truck accounts for two-thirds of the Wörth plant’s annual output.

                                          Cuando Mercedes anunció el SLS AMG Roadster, leímos sin particular interés que la gaviota de alas recortadas podrá equipar un nuevo sistema de telemetría llamado AMG Performance Media, que integrado en el centro de información Command, muestra al conductor datos interesantes de cara a su uso en el circuito como los tiempos de vuelta. Bien, pues ahora tenemos un vídeo del sistema en funcionamiento, y merece que le eches un buen vistazo.

                                          Básicamente, este conjunto de hardware y software refleja gracias a los sensores del coche la dirección y la cuantía de las fuerzas G, el desarrollo del par motor, las temperaturas de los líquidos (refrigerante, aceite y fluido de la transmisión), la fuerza con la que pisas el pedal acelerador, la presión concreta de cada neumático, y naturalmente, tus cronos en el circuito, almacenando además los datos mencionados anteriormente para construir una tabla con la que podrás mejorar tu técnica de conducción comparando las gráficas elaboradas en cada recorrido. ¿Te parece poco? Pues en el futuro será posible añadir nuevas aplicaciones desde un simple pendrive.

                                          Los juegos de simulación siempre han querido imitar el comportamiento de los coches de verdad, y ahora los coches de verdad quieren parecerse a los videojuegos.

                                          Mercedes ofrece el AMG Performance Media como parte del equipamiento opcional de los SLS y SLS Roadster, pero próximamente lo añadirá a otros modelos de la gama AMG.

                                                California might be the home of human cosmetic surgery, but it's also worth reminding yourself that it's also the world epicentre of automotive plastic and metal surgery.
                                                The story you are about to read simply couldn't, wouldn't have come about in any other country than the USA, nor any state not called California. The mix of available cash, open-minded thinking, custom-car lust and concentration of high-precision, custom-car builders here just doesn't exist anywhere else on the planet on this scale. In the SoCal automotive space, there's no such thing as impossible, just improbable.

                                                For that reason, it's always worth giving an apparently ordinary car a second look, because chances are it's hiding a couple of interesting automotive secrets. Or, in the case of this familiar-looking but strangely extraordinary 1961 Mercedes 190SL, a whole walk-in bank vault full. Seeing it sitting on the show floor at last year's SEMA tuning-car fest, there was something about it that didn't quite add up. Several things were just gently... amiss.

                                                      Para competir com o Audis A1 e A2 e o possível BMW Série Zero, a Mercedes pretende apresentar o seu próprio citadino à parte da Smart fruto da parceria com a Renault.

                                                      En grandissant d'une trentaine de centimètres, la future Classe A s'apprête à quitter son rôle de citadine. Mais une autre petite Mercedes devrait combler ce vide, en reprenant la base de la Renault Clio.

                                                      La lutte entre les constructeurs premium allemands fait rage. Même si Mercedes a réussi à contenir les assauts d'Audi l'an passé, la marque à l'Etoile court toujours après BMW. Sans pour autant se résigner : d'ici à 2020, elle compte bien retrouver la plus haute marche du podium. Pour cela, elle va étendre sa gamme dans les prochaines années, en tirant notamment profit de son partenariat avec Renault. Pour sa prochaine citadine, qui viendra pallier la forte poussée de croissance de la Classe A (image 3 et vidéo), programmée pour 2012, Mercedes devrait en effet recourir à la plate-forme de la Clio 4 . Contrairement à la future Smart Forfour , dotée d'un moteur arrière, cette petite au nom de baptême provisoire sera donc une traction.

                                                      Elle partagera ainsi son architecture avec ses principales rivales, la BMW "Série 0" et les Audi A1 et A2 . De plus, sa base partagée avec Renaut lui permettra de recevoir des mécaniques modernes, comme les trois et quatre-cylindres essence 0.9 et 1.2 TCe, tout en abaissant les coûts de production. Mais inutile de s'attendre à des prix serrés : comme le futur utilitaire Vaneo (ci-contre), dérivé du Kangoo , la Mercedes "City" prendra soin de se distinguer de sa cousine française. Elle adoptera en effet une carrosserie spécifique, un habitacle cossu et proposera une riche dotation technologique, comprenant la surveillance de la somnolence, la lecture des panneaux de signalisation et de nombreux autres équipements sécuritaires.
