BMW's V12 engine from the McLaren F1 was originally developed for an M8 version of the 8-series in 1990 that was never put into production, BMW’s M-division has revealed.

The V12 was based around two 6cyl engines from the M3 at the time and it proved to be instantly reliable in tests of the 8-series.

Although the M8 and its V12 engine were fully developed and production ready having been signed off in test vehicles, the car was never signed off by BMW management, despite M's insistence.

The engine produces around 550bhp in the M8 and had "stunning performance figures", according to M personnel.

The engine was then used as the basis for the McLaren F1 road car and Le Mans winner and also found a home in BMWs own sports prototype Le Mans winner in 1999.

It then went on to feature in a first generation X5 with over 700bhp, a 6-spd manual box and a 300kph (186mph) top speed, but this car never saw production either.

BMW wanted to put it in the outgoing M5 to celebrate 25 years of the M5 but it proved to be too big for the engine bay.

O V12 resulta da junção de dois inline-6 do M3, e acabou por servir de base para o motor do McLaren F1, tendo variantes do mesmo equipado o BMW V12 LMR e o protótipo X5 LM (700cv à solta em Nurburgring num SUV).

Novo M3 "CSL" para se situar entre o M3 e o M3 GTS

Bmw will launch a new 'CSL' version of the M3 to sit between the standard saloon and GTS models later this year.
Revealed today at a special 'M' event in Munich, the special M3 model is described by M president Kay Segler as "a special design model focusing on lightweight construction".
The car will be revealed in full at the Nurburgring 24 hours in June. Segler said it used a version of the M3s 4.0 V8 engine, with power between the standard M3 and GTS models.
It will be a limited production model containing "several other surprises", according to segler.
Features include a more aggressive front end with new bumper and splitter, a lowered ride hight, what appears to be a wider track, 19in alloys, a subtle boot spoiler and quad exhausts.

M6 CSL "não fazia sentido"

Pois é, parece que chegou a ser desenvolvido um M6 CSL (geração anterior à nova), no entanto, foi rejeitado por não fazer sentido como "business car".

Deste modo, faz parte de uma colecção, a colecção de clássicos BMW M.
Estavam presentes a aerodinâmica activa, mais potência, estando ausentes 100kg, entre outras coisas.

Outro carro desenvolvido pela M, era um X5 da primeira geração que não chegou a ver a luz do dia por ser RWD e isto porquê? Porque a BMW decidiu que os X seriam apenas oferecidos como AWD.

The M6 CSL coupe was rejected by the BMW board as it didn't make sense as a business case.

It is now part of BMW M's classic collection, shown in full to journalists today for the first time.
Features included active aerodynamics (focused on the floor ), a 100kg weight saving programme, an upgraded power output and a new aero package.

Another car revealed for the first time today is a rear-wheel drive M version of the first-gen X5. This car was never made as BMW decided its X-badged cars had to be all-wheel-drive, something that's no longer the case as its sells rear-drive versions of the X1.
It was powered by a V8 engine mated to an smg gearbox and was "well received" in customer clinics, BMW claims, but was ultimately rejected.

Estás a ser fundamentalista e isso nunca dá bom resultado.

Compra BMW e vende-o aos 119.900 Km (para teres uma margem de manobra, até o novo dono chegar a casa).

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- BMW i Ventures – the automaker's recently established venture capital company with an investment fund of up to $100 million to develop individual mobility solutions for the world's biggest cities – today announced Edward Robinson, a 32-year BMW Group veteran, will be President. In addition, the fund announced the planned creation of an incubator laboratory space in New York City and establishment of an expert advisory board whose purpose will be to guide decisions regarding future investments.

"As urban populations around the world increase, the goal of BMW i Ventures is to develop and leverage technology to further the freedom of mobility," said Robinson, who will assume the BMW i Ventures role in addition to his continuing service as President and CEO of BMW Financial Services, Americas Region. These announcements come as BMW i Ventures moves into its next phase of development with New York City as its base of global operations and on the day that New York City will announce the winners of the BigApps 2.0 competition, a contest that challenged software designers to mine public data housed within New York City government to benefit the public. BMW i Ventures is a strategic partner of the BigApps initiative and will help announce the winners today. BMW Group Member of the Board Ian Robertson also sits on the jury of the BigApps competition and served on the BigApps selection committee. BMW i Ventures will double the prize money awarded to this year's winners.

Established in February of this year, BMW i Ventures is focused primarily on mobile connectivity and location-based services aimed at increasing the freedom of mobility of individuals in the world's most heavily populated urban centers. Significantly, BMW i Ventures will focus on premium mobility services – meaning that it will also look for solutions that are not exclusively related to automobiles.

The fund's first investment was in MyCityWay, a set of location-aware apps for urban navigation that provides users with information on public transportation, parking availability and local entertainment that was one of the winners of New York City's inaugural BigApps.

Beyond financial investment, the BMW i Ventures plans to establish an incubator space in its facility to further support up-and-coming companies and technology solutions.

"We had the potential to establish BMW i Ventures headquarters in a number of the world's mega cities but we chose New York City because it is one of the world's most complex and vibrant cities as well as for its sheer level of talent and creativity," said Joerg Reimann, Managing Director of BMW i Ventures. "We also credit Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) for creating a welcoming environment and nurturing the City's tech scene."

Also announced today was the establishment of the BMW i Ventures advisory board and Josh Rubin, principal at Captain Lucas, Inc. and founder of Cool Hunting as the first member. Rubin has been noted for his expertise on strategy, content, and design for digital products, services, and publications, specifically in mobility-user experience and consumer behavior.

"With the assets BMW brings – not just in terms of financial, but including brand recognition, market access, technological and engineering as well – BMW i Ventures is poised to become a major enabler of software-based mobile solutions for years to come," said Rubin. "There are so many companies with early-stage products that with the right amount of guidance and fostering could become the next indispensable tool for urban mobility."

Existe um preparador na Maia que tem um 3 compact e36 todo alterado com motor M3 S50, todo alargado e aquilo com linha directa manda um cantar

Nem matrícula tem, mas anda no Castelo em hora de ponta como se nada se passasse
