To be based on the Astra K
According to a report coming from UK, the Opel/Vauxhall GT will be back next year when a concept will be displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
While the previous generation was a roadster, the new model is believed to take the shape of a coupe and will be based on the latest generation Astra from where it will get most of the interior bits and pieces. The model hasn't been green-lighted for production just yet, but a concept is believed to show up March next year in Geneva and then GM will decide on whether it's worth making it based on the feedback received from the press and public.
The design is believed to take cues from the Opel Experimental GT introduced in 1965 which was never supposed to morph into a production car, but three years later it hit the road. The new one is expected to employ a front-wheel drive layout and will be offered with several turbocharged gasoline and diesel motors from the Opel range teamed up to a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional automatic transmission.
If the project is approved, the production car should be out sometime in 2017 and there might be a convertible pinned for a 2018 launch.
