While we still haven’t received any official word on the S2000 replacement, Japanese car magazines are at it again drawing up their own renderings of Honda’s next generation rear-wheel-drive roadster. According to T.L. who sent us this latest scan, the unnamed Japanese magazines says that new S2000 is expected to be unveiled in 2010 with worldwide sales starting in 2011. It is stated that Honda’s S2000 will offer buyers more options in terms of powertrains, including two new engines, a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder V-TEC unit delivering approximately 250Hp and a 3.5-litre V6 V-TEC unit with about 350Hp.

Honda to reveal OSM open-top concept in London

The London Motor Show opens up on July 22nd and with it, comes a new concept from Honda, the Open Study Model or OSM. The lightweight, two-seater, open-air sports car is another design study by Honda that attempts to blend performance and sustainable motoring into a comprehensive package. Designed by Honda's R&D center in Offenbach, Germany, the OSM is a vehicle in the same environmentally friendly vein as the CR-Z concept unveiled in Tokyo last year, considered to be a low emissions alternative to the traditional sports coupe.

The CR-Z is still slated to be released sometime next year, but Honda insists that the OSM is strictly a design study and is not confirmed for production. However, as OSM (read: awesome) as it may be, it's not the next S2000, according to Honda spokesperson Steve Kirk.

Honda will unveil a low-emission, lightweight sports study model at the British International Motor Show later this month.

The striking two-seat roadster aims to couple sleek looks with exciting driving dynamics and more efficient engine technology, to give lower exhaust emissions.

The Honda OSM (for Open Study Model), was designed by Honda's R&D facility in Offenbach, Germany. It’s the latest example of the young talent being developed within Honda's design studios in Europe – following the Honda Small Hybrid Sports Concept (Geneva 2007) and the Accord Tourer Concept (Frankfurt 2007).

At present, there are no plans for this design study model to enter production, although Honda will gather feedback from customers at the show to guide any future developments.

Sitting on sporty six-spoke alloy wheels, the OSM has a slippery, aerodynamic exterior to minimise drag. A wide, sloping rear end incorporates a narrow rear light strip, which wraps around the rump of the car. At the front, a gaping front grille sits between angular headlights that stretch from nose of the bonnet to the top of the wheel arches.

The car will be revealed during the Honda press conference on Tuesday, 22 July at 10.30am, on the Honda stand in the North Hall

Atenção que o 1º rendering é um scan de um artigo que circulou em revistas japonesas, provavelmente na Mag-X. Seria interessante confirmarem que o suposto NSX ou mula de testes que tem circulado no Ring, anda apenas a experimentar o V10 do sucessor do NSX e que a carcaça é de um "S2000 coupé" que poderia muito bem receber um V6.

O concept OSM não está confirmado para produção, a Honda vai ver a aceitação da imprensa e do público em geral. É só uma questão de esperar mais umas semanas.

Costumo gostar dos concepts Honda, mas deste nem por isso.
Está muito "bolas" para o conceito.
Presumindo que substituirá o S2000, tem uma frente demasiado pequena e uma traseira muito balofa.

Honda has taken the covers off a new two-seat concept for a future low-emissions sports car that’s already being touted as a preview of the replacement for the aging S2000 roadster. The new concept, dubbed the Open Study Model (OSM), is officially described as a ‘design study’ that promotes Honda’s new green performance image.

The goal for the project was to create something ‘Clean and Dynamic’ – and this direction was followed for both the exterior and interior design. Key characteristics are the smooth and rounded curves, and unique headlights that stretch from the nose to the top of the wheel arches.
Inside, the dash is broken into sections, with the most important instruments in direct line-of-sight of the driver. Key information is displayed in a rounded, enclosed central binnacle, with levels and figures in bright blue on a black background. This matches the trim inside the car, with the seats and door innards trimmed in glossy blue leather.
A centrally-mounted semi-sequential gearlever is also installed, as is a pair of steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. Integrated into the gearshifter is a red ignition ‘start’ button.
Honda spokesman Steve Kirk previously stated that the OSM is just a design study and is not yet confirmed for production. He also said it was not a successor for the S2000 roadster despite being a convertible.
Also on show at this week’s London event is the confirmed-for-production CR-Z sports hybrid and FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell car.

Vejo-o mais na gama actual do Civic (cabrio) do que um possível

A imprensa é que está a dizer que poderá ser o substituto do S2000, mas vê-se bem que não o será.

Em primeiro lugar, o OSM é um híbrido como podem ver pelas fotos do interior, inclusive o layout é FWD.

Em segundo lugar, a Honda nunca permitiria o R&D do novo S2000 na Europa, tem muito mais lógica ser em Tochigi.

Em terceiro lugar, vejo este concept como um CR-Z cabrio e como a futura linguagem estilística da marca nos próximos tempos, sobretudo na futura gama Civic.

The covers have just come off the Honda OSM concept car at the London motor show.
It’s a stunning-looking sleek machine, designed for exceptional aerodynamic efficiency according to the design team behind it.
The OSM’s body is wide and low, with a heavily sculpted rear and a front end reminiscent of the CR-Z, with a low and wide air intake. Honda claims that the car has a very low drag coefficient. The latest concept's body shape and overall proportions are very realistic and are said by Honda insiders to resemble the production version of the CR-Z hybrid coupe.
The OSM is similar in size and proportions to the second-generation Lotus Elan; the windscreen shape and rear wings are surprisingly similar. Honda claims the car has been designed to “couple sleek looks with exciting driving dynamics”.
This is the fourth small hybrid sports car concept from Honda in two years. The Remix, CR-Z and Small Hybrid Sports Concept have all made appearances at recent motor shows, but only the CR-Z has been confirmed for production.
All have been small, lightweight two-seaters with an emphasis on fuel efficiency and low emissions. Honda won’t rule out building the OSM in the future. If public reaction to the car is positive, the firm said it will “use the feedback to guide future developments”.

No geral até gosto deste OSM, especialmente da frente, apesar de estar um bocado "peugeotizada" demais c/aquela bocarra um bocado grande demais. A traseira parece realmente um bocado balofa, mas nota-se a tendência estilística do Civic nesta parte.

O interior segue a tendência da marca, e muito interessante, a meu ver.

Resumindo, não está nada mau, mas podia estar melhor. E tb me parece que é capaz de ser mais uma futura versão cabrio do civic ou algo do género do que o futuro substituto do S2000.
