HONDA ACCORD Allroad (CROSSTOUR)
Deverá ser apresentado dentro de dias no Salão Automóvel de Chicago.
New Honda Accord CUV, set to challenge the Toyota Venza in the mid-size crossover market, has been spotted. No name for the CUV's yet been set, but we're hearing it may be called Crosstour.
The photos of the new Accord-based CUV, posted on the Temple Of VTEC, show what looks to be a Honda Accord Tourer, the European version of the Acura TSX, with the front end of the U.S.-spec Accord grafted on and some kind of extension in the rear.
Since they're testing in the U.S., and given the probability of this vehicle seeing production at one of Honda's Ohio plants, we're assuming the final version of the new CUV will be based on the U.S. Honda Accord platform with larger flares and the rear-end of the Honda Accord Tourer. Whether or not they'll add a third row of seating, something the Venza does not have, isn't yet clear. What is clear from the photos is this prototype is a few inches longer than the European wagon.
Photos show the prototype has a rear differential, so we expect it will also be fitted with an AWD system. Engine choices will likely be similar to the Honda Accord with, possibly, the addition of the 2.3-Liter turbo fourbanger out of the Acura RDX for more power.

The new vehicle will essentially be an Accord Euro ‘Tourer’ wagon sitting on raised suspension and an AWD system
Honda may be in the process of developing a new crossover vehicle to cover a wider range of segments in its lineup. Spy shots of an undisguised test mule suggest that an Accord-based crossover may be in the works and that the North American market may be in line to receive this vehicle in lieu of the Honda Accord Euro ‘Tourer’ wagon sold in other markets.
The spy shots show what appears to be an Accord Euro Tourer body with the American-spec Accord front bolted on. While this may initially suggest that a U.S. spec Accord Tourer may be in the works, the wider track and taller ride height are dead giveaways that this model will be a little more substantial than that.
Coupled with the fact that the mule is completely undisguised, speculation is abounding that a completely new midsized crossover vehicle may be on the way. A rear differential seen in some of the images also confirm that the vehicle is equipped with Honda's SH-AWD system.
Honda's range is missing a crossover vehicle and the rising popularity of such models would make it a viable vehicle for the carmaker in the current market. This means that Honda's CR-V and Element compact SUVs could be joined by a new midsized crossover based on the Accord Euro platform, providing the carmaker with a decent competitor to cars like the Toyota Venza and Subaru Legacy wagon. Michigan’s first snow has also brought the first look at this development vehicle for an all-new Honda crossover vehicle! An Accord-based crossover vehicle has been rumored for quite a while now and these pics are the first proof the project has finally been green-lighted.
At first glance, this vehicle may look like nothing more than the European Honda Accord Tourer. Closer inspection reveals that is not the case. For starters, the U.S. market Honda Accord front end has been grafted onto the body. While most of the body on this mule is non-production, this front end may actually be close to the final design of the nose we see on the production CUV.
We can also see fender flares that have been tacked onto the body and covered with tape that matches the color of the paint. These flares indicate that the wheel track has been widened slightly. Looking directly behind the rear doors, it quickly becomes apparent that a few extra inches of sheet metal and glass have been added to the body, suggesting the final product will be a few inches longer than the current European Accord Tourer. This development vehicle is also riding higher than a standard Accord Tourer and actually resembles and Audi Allroad in person.
Based on the Honda Accord chassis, this all-new crossover vehicle will start production in the fourth quarter of 2009 at the Marysville or East Liberty factory. The Accord CUV will slot in-between CR-V and Pilot and will look to do battle with Toyota’s new Venza CUV.
Powertrains are not yet known, but the motors currently found in the USDM Accord seem like a safe bet. We observed this mule testing alongside an Acura RDX. We also noted this mule accelerated rather briskly, so the 2.3L, four-cylinder turbo motor from the RDX may have a chance of making it into the Accord CUV.
One thing we can say for sure about this vehicle is that AWD will be an option. A close look at this prototype reveals that it has a rear differential. More than likely, this means the car has Honda’s VTM-4 AWD system.
“Latitude” is one name rumored for the badge on the back of this new CUV. Though that now seems less likely as Honda allowed that trademark to expire many months ago.
No official word from Honda as of yet, but the Accord-based CUV could debut at next month’s Chicago Auto Show.
