                anda tudo encalhado

Assim à primeira praticamente não noto diferenças.

                  Pelos vistos "engordou" um pouco.

A mala também me faz lembrar o Megane II.

Suzuki’s all-new lighter, longer and more spacious Swift will go on sale in the UK this autumn, promising better dynamics, increased performance and improved CO2 emissions and economy.

The Swift’s all-new platform increases the wheelbase by 50mm and the overall length by 90mm. The body is also lighter and stiffer, and the front and rear tracks are 10mm and 5mm wider respectively. Suzuki claims the Swift, its best-selling model, is much improved dynamically as a result.

See official pics of the new Suzuki Swift

Suzuki’s focus on improving the dynamics is evident when looked at next to the five-door's styling, which is a subtle evolution of the outgoing car’s handsome design.

Interior pictures have yet to be revealed, but Suzuki has indicated it will be more sophisticated and “dynamic” than the outgoing car. The increase in wheelbase will also create more space for rear passengers.

The launch engine will be a new 1.2-litre petrol engine to replace the outgoing 1.3-litre unit. The Dual VVT unit produces 92bhp and 87lb ft, both figures slightly improved over the 1.3 unit. A manual gearbox will be standard and an automatic optional.

However, the real gains have been in improving fuel economy and cutting CO2 emissions. Economy is now 56.5mpg, 7.8mpg more than the 1.3, and emissions are 116g/km, 24g/km lower than the outgoing car.

A reworked 1.3-litre diesel capable of 109g/km and 67.3mpg (119g/km and 62.8mpg in the old Swift) will be available from early 2011, while a 1.6 Sport model is also expected to be launched in 2011.

Full UK pricing and specification will be announced later in the summer, but the Swift is likely to cost from around £11,000.

                                                What is it?
The new Suzuki Swift. It looks uncannily like the old one, even though the platform and every panel are new. Buyers liked the previous Swift, goes the reasoning, so by giving them more of the same in an updated form they will surely return for a new one.

This incremental evolution might work for a Mini whose style is central to the brand, but for the Swift it seems amazingly cautious. That said, it's a good-looking car with its blade-like roof, blacked-in windscreen pillars and stubby tail (which means a meagre boot). Always was, actually.

The headlights and rear lights are longer and curvier, the tailgate doesn't open down as far (to increase structural stiffness), and the dimensions have grown fractionally: 90mm longer, 5mm wider, 10mm in tracks, 50mm in the wheelbase although rear kneeroom is still tight.

Suspension is still struts up front, torsion-beam rear, but the components are new and the rear anti-roll bar has gone. Despite that, rear roll stiffness rises by 25 per cent because the beam is now made from two layers of steel. Angling the mounting bushes has increased resistance to lateral movement by 50 per cent.

                                                What's it like?
You can feel the changes as soon as you drive the new Swift, because its steering is now mechanically very positive around the centre. The ratio is quicker here than on lock, too, but the glutinous feel of the electric power assistance spoils the effect.

Still, the Swift points tidily around bends, grips well, feels planted and rides with smoothness and no rattles.

The turbodiesel engine remains a Fiat-designed 1.3 of 74bhp, now more refined thanks to reduced body resonances, but in place of the old 1.3 petrol unit is an all-new 1.2 with an extra 2bhp, making an impressive 93 despite the lack of a turbo. CO2 drops from 140g/km to 116, too, helped by the Swift's loss of 20kg over the old one.

I drove the 1.2, and it's a smooth, willing engine with a crisp response and ready revvability, but the optional four-speed auto would probably stifle it.

And the cabin? All-new again; it looks plusher, but the facia and door surfaces are still hard and the previous bold simplicity has been ousted by a more conventional design.

                                                Should I buy one?

This is very much a case of evolution rather than revolution, then, but the Swift remains a likeable alternative to the obvious.

2011 Suzuki Swift: Interior, more specs & new images revealed

New interior photos of the next generation 2011 Suzuki Swift show a car with a smoother dash, a built in retractable screen, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, and a USB port. The car, which will be sold as both a three-door and five-door, will have more ventilation than the previous model, as well as keyless ignition and a new selection of sport cloth for the interior.

Full specs show that the car will be sold at launch with a choice between a 1.2-liter WT petrol engine, and a 1.3-liter DDIS diesel. The four-cylinder 16-valve petrol unit produces 93 horsepower (69 kW / 94 PS) and up to 118 Nm (87 ft-lb) of torque. Alternatively, the direct injection diesel, also a 16V four-banger, produces 74 horsepower (55 kW / 75 PS) and up to 190 Nm (140 ft-lb) of torque. Petrol buyers get a choice between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic, while the diesel only comes with the manual.

The 3,850-millimeter long car is 1,695-mm wide and 1,510-mm high (151.57" x 66.73" x 59.45"), and has a wheelbase of 2,430 mm (95.67"). This means the car is 2.5-percent longer, with a 40-mm longer wheelbase, providing both more legroom and more cargo space. Hopefully, this will not detract from the Swift's small car charm.

Still, the car's scant kerb weight ranges from 945 kg to 1110 kg, depending on the transmission and added options. By keeping the weight low, the relatively petrol engine and manual transmission get the three- and five-door to 100 km/h in 12.3 seconds. Add 0.4 seconds to the time with the diesel, or 1.2 seconds with the automatic transmission. All of the manual transmission cars top out at 165 km/h, while the automatic models peak at 160 hp.

To help increase fuel efficiency, the petrol engine with a manual transmission will likely get a start/stop system. Without start/stop, fuel economy on the petrol ranges from 5.0- to 5.5-liters of fuel per 100 km (47 to 43 mpg), while the diesel gets a combined 4.2 liters of fuel per 100 km (56 mpg). This leads to CO2 emissions ranging from 109 to 126 grams per km.

Look for the 2011 Suzuki Swift to hit the market by the end of this year.
