I like, com um bom V6/V8 venha ele

Jaguar plans to launch an upmarket 3-series saloon rival and a radical, sporty 4x4 crossover by the middle of this decade.
The two new £40k models, being planned under project codename X760, will join with the new XE sports car to help lift Jaguar’s sales volume closer to 100,000 units per year, the company’s medium-term strategic goal.
Jaguar had a good year in 2010, boosting sales by a couple of thousand units to around 52,000. But the number is comparatively tiny and strong growth is vital to ensure future profits and satisfy owner Tata, which is investing heavily in Jaguar Land Rover.
See Autocar's renderings of Jaguar's small saloon and crossover
Porsche, whose success has to some extent guided Jaguar’s strategic target, added around 20,000 units last year and is already heading back to over 100,000 units, its peak in 2007.
Success in China and the US will dictate whether Jag can hit its target, which is partly why it will break out of its brand straitjacket to launch a soft-roader in late 2014.
                                          Sports saloon in 2014
Jaguar has been considering a return to the vital ‘executive saloon’ segment with a premium-priced, high-quality, front-engined, rear-drive small car for well over 18 months.
Since being first proposed as a new entry-level Jag, project X760 has evolved from a radical hatch into a family of two cars — saloon and soft-roader — that could hike Jag’s volume by up to 40,000 units a year.
Jaguar came to the conclusion that the five-door hatch couldn’t guarantee sufficient sales and experienced new management, in the form of new boss Carl-Peter Forster, Ralf Speth and Adrian Hallmark, has crystallised the plan for a more conventional four-door, three-box design. “Saloons are where the meat in the market is,” one insider told Autocar.
                                          Jaguar: the next 12 years
Just like the mooted five-door hatch, the X760 saloon won’t be cheap. Its entry point will be around £40k at today’s prices, but it will be high in quality, handsome looking, fine driving and more frugal than any previous Jag. That’s largely thanks to its new aluminium monocoque, known internally as the RD7 platform.
RD7 is the next-generation pressed-alloy, riveted monocoque platform, freshly engineered for the next Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, and also known as the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA).
The smaller saloon will have its own version of the platform structure and upper body, but the manufacturing and basic design methods will be common. The shared parts will include electrical modules, axles and air-con units.
RD7 will eventually underpin the replacement for the XF (due around 2015) and XJ (2018). Much of the thinking for this was done by senior engineer Mick Mohan, now boss of JCB, whose job was to streamline JLR’s complex platform set-up.
See Autocar's renderings of Jaguar small saloon and crossover
Although the X760 saloon will be Jaguar’s ‘entry-level’ car, it won’t be especially small. Its dimensions will be nudging 4.8m — the size of the just-replaced BMW 5-series. But by the same time, of course, its main competitor — the new F11 BMW 3-series — will have grown to a comparable size. However, the Jag’s alloy bodyshell should ensure a kerb weight of around 1300kg, at least 100kg lighter than the main competition.
Powertrains for the X760 will be a departure for Jaguar, majoring on four-cylinder petrols and diesels to reduce fuel consumption and CO2. By the time that the X760 is on sale, Jag’s fleet average CO2 output will have to be nudging towards 140g/km and the EU is already talking about a further 40g/km-plus reduction by 2020 or earlier.
For Europe, the main engine will be a version of the 2.2-litre diesel developed for the Range Rover Evoque. With outputs spanning 150bhp to over 200bhp, it should offer refinement, performance and economy.
Jaguar is understood to be ‘package protecting’ the engine bay of the X760 to accommodate a V6 diesel, but it has yet to give this variant internal approval.
In petrol engine markets the core engines will be variants of the 1.6 and 2.0-litre Ford Ecoboost soft turbos, again with power ranging from 150bhp to over 200bhp.
To get low CO2 figures, Jag will have to offer the X760 with a manual transmission and stop-start, but an automatic will also be essential. Engineers are understood to be evaluating both the ZF eight-speeder, also now available with stop-start, and Getrag’s dual-clutch transmission, badged ‘Powershift’ by Ford.
                                          Style-led crossover
This is the real departure for Jaguar, but the reality is that it cannot ignore the growing soft-roader market. Audi, for example, cannot make enough Q5s to satisfy demand of over 150,000 cars a year globally, and Volvo has had a smash hit with the XC60, now selling around 75,000 a year.
Enthusiasm for the soft-roader is very high from Jaguar’s division in the US, where the model is seen as vital to boost sales in the north-eastern snow belt. This ought to be Jaguar’s sales homeland, but two-wheel-drive luxury saloons are being undermined there by the growing popularity of luxury crossovers.
As a result, Jaguar is looking to sister company Range Rover for the running gear of the X760 crossover. Based on the PLA alloy underbody, the X760 has space for a front diff and ‘quill’ shaft to provide drive to the front wheels.
                                          Jaguar: the next 12 years
Because the PLA is being developed from the ground up, Autocar understands that the new running gear — such as the power take-off from the ZF auto gearbox and the centre diff — is packaged more efficiently to keep the overall height of the Jaguar 4x4 low.
To keep sufficient marketing space between the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, Jaguar is creating a style-focused 4x4. One source compares the new model to the Infiniti FX.
Space will open up in the JLR range for the X760 because the next-gen Range Rover Sport will come with a five-plus-two seating arrangement as standard for the first time. So the X760 will be expected to appeal to some of the Range Rover Sport’s buyers, particularly urban drivers looking for a less overt but still-stylish 4x4 with lots of British luxury.
As a result, the new Jag 4x4 will have a compact, four-seat cabin set well back to give it a sporty, long-bonnet proportion to the styling.
The ground clearance will be higher than a conventional saloon’s but not as lofty as a Range Rover’s, and the seating position will be more relaxed, with a sports saloon feel rather than an upright set-up used for maximum off-road visibility. The cockpit will cocoon the driver more like a coupé’s than a utility vehicle’s. Similarly, the four-wheel drive system will be focused on road ability and safe, secure handling in wet and snowy conditions.
The cabin will aim to bring the style of the XF’s and XJ’s to the crossover market, giving the X760 a strong identity. Powertrains will be drawn from the X760 component set, which means the 2.2-litre turbodiesel and Ecoboost soft-turbo 1.6 and 2.0 petrols.

The baby Jaguar is back! Following our previous recent story, bosses at the British firm’s parent company, Tata, have confirmed that a BMW 3-Series rival – designed to sit below the XF and replace the X-Type – is already under development. And our exclusive pictures show how the compact newcomer could look.

The announcement came from Tata chief executive, Carl-Peter Forster. He admitted that for Jaguar to take on its German competitors globally, a smaller, higher sales volume saloon was a necessity, and so work has begun on the new car. Although the Ford Mondeo-based first-generation X-Type was hardly a sales success, a replacement is on the cards – thanks in part to the positive reception the RD6 concept received at the Frankfurt Motor Show seven years ago. In keeping with the XF and XJ, the next car will feature a cutting-edge design, but to separate itself from the larger models, there will be plenty of smooth curves instead of sharp creases.

As our images show, an interpretation of the XF’s rectangular mesh grille and swept-back headlights would give the front end the new Jaguar family look. At the back, more rounded edges to the boot, boomerang tail-lamps and pronounced curves over the wheelarches create a distinctive and muscular stance. Under the skin, the plot thickens, though. Our sources have revealed that Jaguar is working on an all-new aluminium rear-wheel-drive platform for the X-Type replacement, with the aim of making it the lightest, best-handling car in its class.

Such a massive undertaking would absorb a large chunk of Tata’s £1billion per year research and development budget for Jaguar/Land Rover, so to spread the costs, the modular platform will also be used on the next-generation XF, XK and an all-new sports. Bearing in mind that the big XJ already uses an aluminium chassis, this would mean the range would eventually be all aluminium, with significant benefits for fuel economy.

Also boosting the newcomer’s green credentials will be a pair of downsized four-cylinder engines – diesel and petrol turbo units, with the former replacing the Ford-sourced 2.2-litre oil-burner that’s currently fitted to the Freelander in Jaguar/Land Rover’s portfolio.

A range-topping 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel could also be offered, as well as a hybrid version in 2015. This would pair the V6 diesel with a 35kW (47bhp) electric motor integrated into an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

When it appears in 2012, the 3-Series rival will be earmarked as Jaguar’s big-seller – but even without it, things are going well for the British brand. Latest sales figures show that it shifted 6,776 cars in June – 59 per cent more than in the same month last year.

Equally exciting is renewed ambition for Jaguar to create a new X-Type model – one that doesn’t devalue the brand, but rather works as a proper stepping stone to bring younger buyers into the Jaguar fold. Inspiration for the X-Type could come from the R-D6 concept (above), with coupe-like styling along the lines of the Mercedes CLS.

Priced from £40k, the compact five-door is pencilled in for production around 2014, when it will line up alongside a new front-engined sports car and an estate version of the XF as extensions to Jaguar’s model line-up.
Intended as a luxurious but practical five-seater combining excellent fuel economy with good performance and handling, the sports hatch still awaits the production go-ahead, but is being championed at the highest levels of the company.

Será XS o nome do carro?

Usava a plataforma do Ford Mondeo - tracção dianteira portanto, componentes e alguns motores (diesel, salvo erro).

Baby Jag to wait for XF

Jaguar will replace the core model in its range, the XF, before extending its line-up with a new small saloon, Autocar has learned.

This new plan is one of many detail changes to Jag’s future strategy under its Tata-led management team, now headed by experienced Briton Adrian Hallmark.

Jaguar did have a new small saloon and a sports utility spin-off pencilled in to the product plan under the codename X760 and due for launch around 2014, a year ahead of a new XF in 2015.

But for a significant reason the replacement for the XF is being given higher priority - to ensure the new ‘small’ saloon doesn’t encroach on the XF and pinch sales from the car that saved Jaguar.

“We definitely won’t kill today’s XF with a new small car,” Hallmark said. “We’ll kill it with the new XF.” Given that the new F10 BMW 5-Series and Merc E-Class models have moved up in size, so will the next XF.

The same goes for next year’s 2012 F30 3-series and the new C-class, particularly since BMW and Mercedes have significant models lower down their ranges.

To be competitive with the new 3-series and C-class, Jag’s small saloon will end up being close in size to today’s XF; hence the need to switch the models in the cycle plan.

Jag’s engineering chief Bob Joyce said, “The small car has to be designed and engineered to be exactly right for its market.”

Hallmark is a strong advocate of the new small saloon, cautioning that the failure of the X-type shouldn’t generate negative thinking about this vital segment. “We’ve got to be careful and not be too British and think that just because we didn’t hit the bullseye first time, we can’t hit it a second time,” he said.

He also believes that the success of the radical XF shows the way forward for Jaguar to be successful with a new small saloon. “We haven’t realised the full potential of the XF yet,” he said. “It was a vision and it has been very successful. Why can’t we do the same in the segment below?”

Veremos.

                                                          Jaguar's crucial baby saloon

Jaguar engineers are working on an all-new front-drive baby saloon that will spearhead sales in India and China, as well becoming one of the company’s leading new models in the all-important US market. It should be launched by 2015 and is likely to built in the UK and India.
According to sources in India, the new model is thought to be about 4.5 metres long and will be powered by Jaguar Land Rover’s all-new three-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine and four-cylinder, 1.8 and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesels. Sophisticated new-generation eight and nine-speed automatic gearboxes are also thought to be on the menu.

The car’s closest conceptual rivals in the showroom are expected to be the upcoming Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLC small saloons, both of which have been previewed as concepts.
The baby Jaguar, however, won’t be a budget model. Some estimates say it will cost from £22,000.
There will be a number of variations on the mainstay four-door, including a coupé and possibly a small roadster, but there’s no news on whether Jaguar will build a hatchback rival for the future Mercedes A-class. However, the British company has already created a hatchback concept called the RD-6 back in 2003.
Despite the reputation of the unloved X-Type, Jaguar’s decision to build a range of front-drive cars is being partly forced on the company by the stringent new CAFE fuel economy regulations due in the US from 2016.

According to the CAFE rules, by the time the 2016 model year arrives, Jaguar needs to be selling significant numbers of petrol-engined vehicles capable of more than 50mpg, as a result of the US market’s lack of interest in diesel. These fuel economy demands will then become progressively more stringent by 2025.

Jaguar will be in good company downsizing into a range of frugal baby saloons. Audi has already shown its 4.4m-long A3 saloon concept and Mercedes its A-class-style F800 concept. Both are based on new front-drive platforms and aimed primarily at China, India and the US.
Some product planners think these compact saloons will also appeal to female buyers, who are less keen on the traditional large executive cars sold by premium manufacturers.
Last year, now-departed JLR boss Carl-Peter Forster said Jaguar needed a “successor to the X-type… and we need [it] in several variations.” However, it has become clear in recent months that this model will not be a direct rear-drive rival for the BMW 3-series, but a more modern interpretation of a compact, eco-friendly, executive car.
Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar’s global brand director, told Autocar earlier this year that he was behind the concept of a small saloon. “We’ve got to be careful, and not be too British and think that just because we didn’t hit the bull’s-eye first time [with the X-type], we can’t hit it a second time,” he said.

There’s no indication of the new car’s styling direction, but it’s thought it won’t build on the avant-garde look of the latest XJ. Aerodynamic efficiency will be a necessity, though, as will a premium look to justify the price. The interior will be more modern than anything Jaguar has done so far, putting the emphasis on large-screen displays and connectivity, as well as Audi-matching finish.

The baby Jaguar could be based on a variation of the new LR-MS platform that underpins the new Range Rover Evoque. Even though Jaguar is increasingly making play of its use of lightweight aluminium construction, an all-aluminium platform would be too expensive for a car of this price.

However, last year, Mark White, Jaguar’s chief technical specialist for body engineering, said that if he designed a ‘mixed-materials’ structure for a potential small model, he would use steel box sections and aluminium sheets for the floorpans, roof panels and doors to “achieve maximum weight saving for minimum cost.”
Jaguar engineers are said to have particularly ambitious fuel economy targets for the new model. Last year Ron Lee, Jaguar’s chief powertrain engineer, revealed that the company was aiming to build an XF-sized car that could emit just 100g/km CO2 by 2020.
Much of this work — including a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder petrol motor with a very high power density of as much as 170bhp per litre and a diesel engine good for 133bhp per litre — will also be applied to the baby saloon.
