      Lo ha denominado Beetle RS, y es ese cruce que tanto nos gusta entre estética Porsche 911 GT3 RS y el mencionado Beetle, que a fin de cuentas siguen partiendo de un origen muy muy lejano, pero común. El nuevo Beetle realmente se presta para estas cosas, y el resultado, que de momento se limita a la estética, a través de llantas, decoración cromática y logos de-cromados, ya resulta todo un bombón.

      Pero vendrán más cosas, pues desde VWvortex ya trabajan en instalar un alerón posterior del GT3 RS (para mi gusto, quedará tal vez demasiado aparatoso), y un kit de mejora en el motor 2.0 TFSI (escape, admisión, ECU), que debería llevarlo a la frontera de los 280 caballos, acoplados a un autoblocante delantero, y una suspensión modificada para cumplir con las necesidades. No suena nada mal.

        MADRID -- Volkswagen AG plans to sell asset-backed securities in China when government rules allow issuance of the debt amid soaring vehicle sales in the country.
        "We are getting ready, it's an internal project at the moment," said Stefan Rolf, head of securitization at Volkswagen Financial Services AG, the carmaker's financing unit.
        The Wolfsburg-based company may be ready to issue car loan-backed bonds in China by the end of 2012, if government legislation is ready, he said. Asset securitization is favored by People's Bank of China officials including Deputy Governor Liu Shiyu, who say it can help banks manage balance sheets and will ensure China's markets keep pace with its economic development.
        Volkswagen is planning the securities as its vehicle sales in China jumped 20 percent in the first quarter, outpacing industry growth of 8.1 percent, Europe's largest carmaker said in April.
        Banks create asset-backed securities by pooling loans into notes that are sold to investors, allowing lenders to raise capital more cheaply than by issuing unsecured debt.
        Sales of the bonds in Europe evaporated in 2008 when losses from subprime mortgage bonds in the U.S. caused investors to shun hard-to-value assets. Offerings have picked up since 2009. China hasn't set rules for asset-backed debt, though some of the country's lenders arrange private transactions known as informal securitizations to reduce the loans on their balance sheets, according to Fitch Ratings.
        Volkswagen is also working on securitizations in Australia and France that may be ready within the next two years, Rolf said. He also plans to issue local currency deals in Brazil and Japan.
        "Our business is growing on the auto side quite significantly, which comes alongside growth in financial services," Rolf said in a June 14 interview on the sidelines of the Global ABS 2011 conference in Brussels.
        Volkswagen Finance originated five asset-backed bonds this year in Europe, including the first public sale of securities pooling Spanish car loans since 2007, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Securitization makes up about 13 percent of VW's outstanding funding and "is going to increase a little further," Rolf said.

Estas imprudentes palabras suelen preceder a más de un catecúmeno coscorrón, y ciertamente, los que nos dimos en nuestros años mozos nos enseñaron a que nunca, nunca, nunca, debíamos quitar las manos del manillar; una lección que sigue siendo igual de adecuada ahora que hemos cambiado la bici por el coche. Volkswagen, sin embargo, está trabajando en un piloto automático para automóviles capaz de conducir el coche a 130 km/h sin gran intervención por parte del usuario. Porque realmente, ya no sabemos si podríamos llamarlo conductor.

          El Piloto Automático Temporal, o TAP por sus siglas en inglés, utiliza una serie de sensores para asumir la mayor parte de la conducción, combinando el control de crucero adaptativo con el sistema de asistencia de mantenimiento de carril para hacer que el coche circule de forma casi autónoma sin salirse de la carretera ni invadir el carril contrario. En el modo Pilot o semi-automático, el coche prácticamente se hace cargo de casi toda la conducción, dejando que la persona al volante se limite en esencia a decir si quiere ir a la derecha o a la izquierda; el sistema de detección de señales controla la velocidad máxima de la vía, los adelantamientos se realizan siempre siguiendo las normas, y hasta el coche decelera por ti al acercarte a una curva.

          Paradójicamente, la idea principal del TAP no es narcotizar al conductor despojándole de casi todas sus responsabilidades, sino evitar accidentes por sueño o distracción. El TAP también sería útil en los atascos, dado que puede hacerse cargo automáticamente de avanzar lentamente y detener el coche para seguir reptando con el resto del tráfico. Por supuesto, se puede conectar o desconectar de forma voluntaria, y para evitar disgustos, Volkswagen indica que siempre hay que supervisar su correcto funcionamiento.

          El proyecto TAP ha sido financiado parcialmente por la Unión Europea como parte del programa HAVEit (Highly Automated Vehicles for Intelligent Transport), y aunque puede sonar demasiado avanzado para los coches de hoy, Volkswagen indica que usa "una plataforma de sensores casi de producción", compuesta por un radar similar el equipado por modelos como el Touareg, una cámara, sensores de ultrasonidos y un escáner láser. Por ahora, en cualquier caso, ni siquiera se ha insinuado la posibilidad de equiparlo en vehículos de venta al público.

                                                            Volkswagen's star attractions at this year's edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show may be thepint-sized Nils Concept and the Up! city car, but there's nothing small about the German firm's exhibition stand which measures a whopping 97,000 square feet or close to 9,000 square meters.The cloud-like shaped booth will host more than 50 vehicles focusing on the Up! city car, which is making its public debut along with the Nils single-seat electric commuting vehicle concept and the recently unveiled new generation Beetle, facelifted Tiguan and Golf Cabriolet.
                                                            One of the highlights of VW's stand will be a 30-meter (90 ft) “Innovation Wall”, a giant-size tablet PC that will create virtual presentations around the real exhibits.
                                                            The German company said a total of 228 hosts and hostesses and around 80 Volkswagen employees will be on hand, either at the IAA 2011 stand or at the driving experience and offroad track.
                                                            In addition, VW will offer visitors the chance to drive their cars as it will bring a test fleet of 74 vehicles including nine electric-powered Golf blue-e-motion.
                                                            "Volkswagen has the largest test fleet of any automaker at the IAA – 74 vehicles are lined up outside Hall 3.0," said Tillmann Stauske, head of fairs and congresses at Volkswagen. "That means our guests can experience the entire Volkswagen product range – from the Polo and Golf blue-e-motion to the Touareg Hybrid," he added.
