    Rimac Concept One

Official: Croatian electric supercar Rimac Concept_One

Mate Rimac Rimac and his firm Cars (famous for electric BMW M3 e-) for this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in the promotion of electric supercar prepared with 1088KS, called Concept_One.
Concept_One has 1088 hp and 3800 Nm, which is enough to make this 1650-pound car to 100 km / h speed in less than three seconds (actually 2.8 sec), while the top speed limited to 305 km / h.

According to announcements, Concept_One single set of batteries (92 kWh) is the autonomy of 600 kilometers.

The design of this sporty two-seater is the usual work of young designers Karlovac Adriana Wise, for the interior decoration was in charge of the Bulgarian company Vilner, and in the Croatian company announced production of a limited edition of 88 pieces (delivery should start 2013.).

According to information that had previously published some Croatian media, the two cars were apparently already sold to customers in Abu Dhabi, and as prices are concerned, the Croatian media mentioned the figure of 400,000 to 700,000 euros.

FRANKFURT, September 13th, 2011. – Rimac Automobili is unveiling the world's first electric supercar - the Concept_One.
The Concept_One is an exceptional supercar with a new propulsion concept. With a curb weight of 1650 kg, and 1088 HP, the Concept_One can reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 2.8 seconds and continue to accelerate to the limit of 305 km/h. 92kWh of energy in the Battery Modules delivers enough juice“for up to 600 km of range.

Rimac Automobili developed a unique powertrain which is divided into four sub-systems, each consisting of one motor, inverter and reduction gearbox. Each of those systems drives one wheel, working completely independent one from the other. It's called All Wheel Torque Vectoring and it allows a new approach to vehicle dynamics. Mate Rimac, the CEO of Rimac Automobili says: “I believe that the electric motor is a much better machine compared to the ICE, in almost all aspects, especially for a sports car.“
The carbon-fibre body is designed by Adriano Mudri: „Exploring the labyrinth of creativity, it was obvious at an early stage that the design had to be simple and clear with a lot of sporty elegance to easily catch up with its competitors in this power & exclusivity class.“

The interior is designed by a team of former Pininfarina employees, led by Mr. Goran Popović. After the Rimac Automobili engineering team finished the development and prototyping of the interior parts, the leather-specialist Vilner stepped-in. The result is a high-tech-supercar interior which can be both appealing and pleasant to interact with, at the same time. Special attention has been paid to the infotainment system and gadgets like head-up-displays and soft-close doors which had to match the propulsion technology in its advancement.

Rimac Automobili is a young company which develops and produces high performance electric vehicles, drive trains and battery system. This all began when the founder of Rimac Automobili, Mate Rimac, converted his old BMW to a race EV. He explored the technology by improving every part and began to team-up with experts from different fields in order to develop the next generation supercar. The old BMW is now officially homologated as a “Rimac Automobili e-M3“and is used as a test mule for battery technologies, battery management, propulsion systems and latest in-house developments. Describing their beginnings Mate Rimac points out: “Our first car evolved in a short period of time into a project that didn’t give a final result - instead it was a start, the start of the world’s first electric hyper car – the Concept _One”. A group of 20 multi-talented engineers and designers settled in Croatia near Zagreb and are making something new and revolutionary. The production of the first model, the Concept_One, is limited to 88 units, starting with deliveries in 2013.

Rimac Automobili delivers first electric supercar, can't let us see it

Rimac Automobili has just accomplished what all startups in the electric vehicle space promise, but mostly never deliver on: Job One. That's right, the Croatian company has completed its very first all-electric supercar for a paying customer. There's just one problem: we can't see it yet.

According to a Facebook update released by the company, its customer "...wished to control what will be published about the project." So, all we know for now is that it should offer similar, if not better, tire-blistering performance as the original Rimac Concept_One but will look somewhat different as it not a copy of that prototype, but rather, a separate one-off design. Judging by the shrouded silhouette in the photo above, the proportions are similar to the Concept_One, but the bodywork has been significantly massaged.

The project took about four months to complete and was complicated by the lack of automotive-sector infrastructure in the company's Balkan homeland. With no pool of engineers to hire from and no supplier base from which to source parts, the team Rimac team had to be inventive and self-reliant whilst operating on a tight budget. The lessons learned should help them move forward with future production, though.

While we look forward to seeing what lies beneath the sheet in both high-definition stills and moving pictures, this is probably the perfect time to applaud Mr. Rimac for reaching this momentous milestone. Congratulations, sir.

                                                  First Impression: Rimac Concept_One

GTspirit is all about the cars. Sportscars, supercars, hypercars. We love the sound of the V8, V10 and V12 engine and the smell of gasoline and burned rubber. We fall in love when hearing a Pagani Zonda accelerating through the Italian countryside, a Gemballa Mirage GT revving so loud you hear it everywhere in Stuttgart or a Ferrari 599XX downshifting at the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. We’ve done it all. Then we met Mate Rimac, founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, and his Concept_One.
The Rimac Concept_One is a car with no sound, no downshifts, no smell of burnt petrol. That doesn’t sound particularly interesting, yet with 1,088 bhp, that couldn’t be further from the truth. It is a staggeringly quick car, a unique driving experience both in acceleration and cornering and by far the best technology you will find in an electric car. We met Mate in Berlin for a personal introduction to his car and company as well as a unique opportunity for a photoshoot with the Concept_One. And we are deeply impressed.

Owners of small sportscar companies are different than the Bosses at huge car companies. Ultimately, they are easier to reach and most tend to be genuine enthusiasts. Mate is exactly that, despite his tight schedule he managed to take two hours out to talk to us. Mate Rimac is now 25 years old, and hails from Livno, Croatia.
After the engine of his BMW E30 blew up, he decided to rebuild the car with his own electric engine design. The brief was to create a car with much more power than the stock M3. He tells us his story and how Rimac Automobili has grown from such unique roots – that a guy in his early 20’s and a team of 20 people can build a complete car from scratch, with all its own parts, engine and battery systems is truly astonishing.

Many will already have heard of the Rimac Concept_One. To refresh your minds, and for those that haven’t yet had a chance to glance at the specs, let us pass on a few key facts. Maximum power output is pegged at 1088 hp, with peak torque of 1,600 Nm both available instantly at the touch of an accelerator. The Concept_One reaches 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds. Depending on whether it has the small or big accu implemented, the Concept_One has a range of 600 km (realistically customers can expect 500 km), even with a heavy foot.

The power output is separately adjustable for the front and rear axle so you can switch it around. In fact you can drive it for example with 50% on front and 50% on the rear axle for some daily cruising. Wanna go sideways? Just pull front to 0% and rear to 100% – and you’ve got some 800+ bhp drift machine with incredible power. You can also switch the setup from “understeer” to “neutral” and “oversteer”.
This gives the car a greater level of safety as the electronic engines can react much faster than a usual stability control system combined with a gasoline engine. Rimac calls their invention “All Wheel Torque Vectoring”.

The work of Mate and his employees hasn’t only created a unique and odd supercar. The guys constantly continue their research, working on new technology and possibilities. Not only faster and lighter. But also for example to use the All Wheel Torque Vectoring technology to achieve higher corner speeds by thousands of different computer actions on every single wheel – in one second! Rimac also provides their cars with a remote system.
With this system the Rimac engineers can update a customer car and also keep informed and react to technical problems before the owner even realises.

Mate emphasizes that the company has more to give than simply the Concept_One. As a small company Rimac can fulfill and tailor cars to nearly every customer’s desire. You would be surprised if you would know the sneak preview we had, which we sadly have to keep to ourselves!
Rimac is building and delivering the first customer cars, but also working on new projects. We are curious about the results and will inform you as soon as we can.

It is not easy to impress petrolheads, like we at GTspirit are, about electric cars. But the Concept_One is a milestone. Once you’ve seen it in action you’ll love it. But it’s also Mate and his employees that do a lot for Rimac’s success. We experienced a super friendly and motivated team of people with an addiction to sportscars. Completely different to the usual car manufacturers in the world. And we like to hear more from them in future!
