    Hyundai HND-9 Concept - revelado

    Previews new Genesis Coupe

Hyundai has presented the HND-9 Conceptat the 2013 Seoul Motor Show this week.
Conceived as a preview for the next-gen Genesis Coupe, the firm's ninth concept (hence the designation) measures 4,695mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,340mm tall, with a 2,860mm wheelbase. Its dramatic styling represents an evolution of the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy and brings an elongated hood, powerful character lines, butterfly doors and a hexagonal-shaped grille.
It rides on 22-inch alloys made with carbon materials and has dual exhausts on both sides. The interior was developed to provide a luxurious and modern driving experience, with sporty seats which project different colors depending on the angle these are seen from. The high-tech interface is driver-oriented and has been modeled after a cockpit.
The rear-wheel drive coupe is powered by a 3.3-liter GDI turbocharged engine producing 362 bhp (270 kW) linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai Genesis coupe poderá ter motor 5.0 V8, já utilizado pelo Genesis

A report coming out of Australia suggests the next Hyundai Genesis Coupe will be offered with a V8 engine.

Sources indicate the Genesis' eight-cylinder engine will be a tuned version of the 420-horsepower 5.0-liter mill currently found under the hood of the Genesis sedan. The V8 will spin the coupe's rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission controlled by shift paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.

Less expensive versions of the next Genesis Coupe will carry on with a V6.

Previewed by the HDN-9 concept (pictured) that debuted at last year's Seoul Motor Show, the coupe will retain the show car's low roof line and upswept rear end but it will gain a set of conventional doors in lieu of the concept's butterfly doors as well as a less futuristic front fascia. Stretched dimensions all around will allow the Genesis Coupe to offer four real seats.

John Elsworth, Hyundai of Australia's chief operating officer, explained cars like the Genesis Coupe are important image boosters for the company.

"I think the sports models are the ones that really stand out in consumers' minds. They're the ones that get the true motoring enthusiasts excited," explained Elsworth in an interview with Australian website GoAuto. "And if you can get them excited about the brand, then they're the go-to people in the industry. If you grab them, then you've influenced a whole eco system around them in a really positive way."

The next Hyundai Genesis Coupe could make its public debut at a major auto show next year and go on sale shortly after as a 2016 model.

[Fotos espia] - Hyundai Genesis Coupe

A new generation of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is coming, and these are our first spy shots of a very early test mule. Hyundai engineers are using the modified body of the current Genesis Coupe to hide the new car’s mechanicals, but a few discernible details tie in with what we already know about the upcoming car.

The new Genesis Coupe, which we’re expecting on the market in late 2016, as a 2017 model, will be a larger, grander car than the model it replaces. This is evidenced by the test mule’s front bumper support, which stretches right up to leading edge of the current Genesis Coupe’s bumper. Things are even more extreme at the rear, with the bumper having to be extended to fit the new car’s package. At present, the track width appears unchanged.

Hyundai has just launched its second-generation Genesis sedan, and it’s thought the automaker will use a shortened version of the car’s platform for the new Genesis Coupe. But this time around the Genesis Coupe will be positioned closer to its upmarket sedan counterpart rather than the affordable sporty two-door positioning the current model enjoys.

The transition has already commenced with the 2015 Genesis Coupe, which is now available exclusively with a V-6. By losing its four-cylinder option, the starting price of the 2015 Genesis Coupe has risen to $27,645, which Hyundai says repositions the car with premium performance buyers. It also helps pave the way for a much more substantial successor.

The increase in dimensions will enable the new Genesis Coupe to be a proper four-seater. The car will also get a V-8 option for the first time, giving it the performance edge over potential rivals such as the Audi A5 and BMW 4-Series and perhaps even the strength to match the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette and Nissan GT-R.

The V-8 destined for the new Genesis Coupe will almost certainly be the 5.0-liter V-8 fitted to the Genesis sedan. The engine is currently rated at 420 horsepower, though we could see power lifted for the Genesis Coupe. The standard engine should be Hyundai’s 3.8-liter V-6, which is currently rated at 311 horsepower. Drive will go to the rear wheels, though it’s likely Hyundai’s new HTRAC all-wheel-drive systemwill be available.

As for styling, Hyundai’s stunning HND-9 concept from 2013 likely provides some clues.

Stay tuned for updates as development progresses.
