GÁS NATURAL e STCP

Ora a minha questão é a seguinte.

Ontem enquanto estava parado nos semáforos, vi um autocarro da Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP) movido a Gás Natural.

Apesar de já circularem a alguns anos, nunca me lembrei da seguinte questão, ou seja, esses autocarros tem motores a gasolina ou a diesel?

Pergunto isto, porque não tenho a certeza se o Gás Natural poderá ser usado num motor de ciclo a Diesel, visto que não tem a "vela" para originar a faísca e a sua consequente "explosão".

Mas tambem funciona em motores Diesel, pelo que se os MAN forem diesel, não é de estranhar...

CNG can be used in Otto-cycle (gasoline) and modified Diesel cycle engines. Lean-burn Otto-cycle engines can achieve higher thermal efficiencies when compared with stoichiometric Otto-cycle engines at the expense of higher NOx and hydrocarbon emissions. Electronically-controlled stoichiometric engines offer the lowest emissions across the board and the highest possible power output, especially when combined with EGR, turbocharging and intercooling, and three way catalytic converters, but suffer in terms of heat rejection and fuel consumption. A suitably designed natural gas engine may have a higher output compared with a petrol engine because the octane number of natural gas is higher than that of petrol.

São motores a gasolina. Os motores a diesel a gnc ou gpl precisam dos dois combustíveis ao mesmo tempo para trabalhar, não compensa.
