Been to Portugal this week in the Elise, 1k miles in a week, left friday afternoon from Seville to Lisbon took 4 hours, all motorway.
Portuguese motorways are very fast and expensive.
Speed limit is 120 km/h, I have lost count of number of cars that went passed us at more than 160 (including the police)
Then on Sunday afternoon left Lisbon and went to Porto, 3 hours or so. The motorways are very good, but mostly dead straight. Then on Wednesday went to from Porto to Estril, (near Lisbon.) The motorway that goes into Lisbon and then out to Estril is very bendy, at one point going into lisbon, the motorway splits goes off downhill around a long bend that ends with a 90 degree bend!!
Lisbon to Porto cost 18 euros, but hay ho the company is paying!
The Portuguese are extremely friendly. In general the people did not seem that interested in the Elise. The guys are I have been working with insisted in taking us out, showing us around, they generally are very warm people. I cant wait to go back!

Spending a few weeks there this summer
I really don't think it's a good place to drive - although if I had a choice I'd take the Lotus rather than the estate car we are taking.
It is incredibly dangerous, and before anyone says no its not look up the road toll statistics...

the reason some of the portuguese are so bad at driving is they fail their tests and then "buy" their licenses, or they certainly used to
I spent quite a lot of time out there 15 years ago and some of the driving scared me no end. One mate of mine who bought his license never should have been allowed behind the wheel, we used to bounce his car into parking spaces as he couldn't manage it. Imagine what he was like when drunk and driving.
agree a very friendly people
