172mph Porsche speeder jailed
Britain's fastest-ever speeder has been jailed for 10 weeks after being clocked doing 172mph in a Porsche 911 Turbo.
Tim Brady was caught back in January by a policeman holding a speed gun in a random check on an A-road in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
The Turbo wasn't even Brady's car: the delivery driver 'borrowed' the 480bhp 911 from his employer, a luxury car hire firm, without permission.
He had asked the previous day if he could take the Turbo out but was repeatedly told no, so he returned on his day off and took the keys.
Oxford Crown Court heard that when stopped by the policeman, Brady said: "Oh shit, oh shit, I've lost my job."
Unsurprisingly, he has since resigned. The court gave Brady a three-year driving ban and ordered him to pay £474 costs.
Brady's 172mph beats the previous fastest recorded speed conviction by a full 16mph. Scottish car dealer Jason McAllister hit 156mph on the A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee back in 2003.
However, it is still some way short of the 242mph speeding ticket received by a Koenigsegg CC driver in Texas back in 2003. Believed to be the fastest ticket ever written, urban legend has it that the driver talked his way out of a fine.
