    Driving the 2012 Fisker Karma - Inside Line


    So as I sat next to Henrik Fisker that night, I began to think more about the hours I'd spent in his car. At once massively impressive and an object of desire, it can turn around and be a frustrating mix of poor visibility, irritating controls and craftsmanship that can't stack up to a Mercedes. Frankly, I couldn't help but compare it to an Aston Martin -- just with a fancy pants plug-in hybrid powertrain rather than a big V12. Will I be lusting after the Karma as I do Mr. Fisker's Aston Martin and other creations? No, probably not. But at least I could honestly say I liked the Karma rather than avoiding the subject while asking him to pass the peach cobbler.

        Fisker Opening Dealers in Spain, Portugal and Italy


        Fisker is broadening its dealer base in Europe by setting up official importers for Spain, Portugal, Morocco. It also has new dealers in Oslo, France, and Italy.

        Guarnieri is Fisker's official importer and marketer for Spain Portugal and Morocco. The company runs dealerships for BMW, Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren in the region as well.

        “We are delighted to have an importer as well-established and experienced as Guarnieri to bring our range-extended luxury cars to Spain. This further increases Fisker Automotive’s international distribution footprint as we bring the concept of Responsible Luxury to consumers worldwide,” said Fisker Chairman Henrik Fisker.

        Fisker is aggressively expanding its dealer network. It has a new showroom in Oslo located in an old shipyard and new dealers in Paris and Cannes. In Italy, its importer created a pop-up showroom at a hotel in Milan to allow guests test drive the car during their visit.

        It also had a fleet of Karmas at the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix as courtesy cars to get wealthy buyers more interested in the car.

        The Karma is selling especially well in the Netherlands. It is the second best-selling luxury car there and outsells the Audi A8, Mercedes S-class and BMW 7-series.

        The Karma has been on sale in Europe since February 2012.

            Como diz a notícia, aparentemente nada tem a ver com baterias, que tanta polémica deu no primeiro incêndio do Karma.
            Já no primeiro incêndio registado, o mesmo começou poucos minutos depois de o dono ter arrumado na garagem, sem estar sequer ligado À electricidade.

            Começa-se a suspeitar, e dado o ponto de origem deste 2º incêndio, que o problema esteja no compartimento do motor de combustão, o gerador, dado que está tudo demasiado apertadinho por lá, e as saídas de ar não serem suficientes para todo o calor gerado.

              Adoro o aspecto e o conceito deste automóvel.
              Pena que a fiabilidade esteja tão miserável, considerando os incêndios deflagrados.

              Em todo o caso, parece-me que os passos para o futuro da locomoção auto estão a ser definitivamente dados pela Toyota (com o seu veículo sustentado a hidrogénio).

                A Honda já tem este aos anos no mercado a hidrogénio


                E dúvido que se tornem mainstream durante as próximas décadas.
                Isto porque se os eléctricos (baterias) têm problemas a ultrapassar, seja a autonomia, seja preço; os eléctricos (hidrogéneo) tÊm muito mais.

                Resolvem uns problemas, como autonomia, mas preço e disponibilidade de hidrogéneo vai demorar ainda muito tempo até se equivalerem ao automóvel convencional.

                Não existem soluções mágicas que resolvam os problemas de uma vez só.

                O futuro, pelo menos durante a próxima década ou duas décadas continuará a ser o velhinho motor de combustão a solo. É onde grande parte dos investimentos dos construtores estão dirigidos e seria preciso um breaktrough tecnológico grande para redireccionar esses mesmos investimentos para um novo paradigma.

                  Causa para os Karma queimados
                  Fisker: cooling fan responsible for Karma fire; voluntary recall has started

                  After two short "we're looking into it" official statements, Fisker Automotive has announced that it has completed a "detailed investigation" into the strange spontaneous combustion of a Karma plug-in hybrid that happened in Woodside, CA last weekend. The result? A voluntary recall to fix the low-temperature cooling fan located in the left front of the Karma, in front of the wheel, that apparently has "an internal fault that caused it to fail, overheat and start a slow burning fire."

                  Fisker says the supplier is responsible and will work together with the unnamed company to fix the problem. Retailers will contact customers and "this recall campaign is not expected to have a material financial impact on Fisker." The fix entails a new cooling fan "that meets the required specifications" and a new, extra fuse "for added protection." Around 2,400 Karmas are affected by this recall.

                  As the latest statement makes clear, and as we expected, the parking-lot fire was not caused by the lithium-ion battery. Company co-founder Henrik Fisker said, "This incident resulted from a single, faulty component, not our unique EVer powertrain or the engineering of the Karma. As this situation demonstrates, Fisker Automotive is dedicated to doing whatever is necessary to address safety and quality concerns." You can read the entire thing below.

                  Fisker is also saying that there is no discernible connection between the Woodside fire and another fire involving a Karma that happened in Texas in May. Fisker spokesman Roger Ormisher told Bloomberg that, "The report for the Texas fire is not in the public domain and we do not have access to it. ... the real root cause [of the Texas fire] is unlikely to be determined."

                  The Karma has been recalled before, at the tail end of 2011, for problems with the battery pack, specifically the battery hose clamp. Some Karma battery packs also had some defective prismatic cells replaced by battery-maker A123 Systems.

                    VL Automotive Destino - Detroit 2013

                    A los Porsche Panamera y Aston Martin Rapide se le podrían complicar las cosas con el VL Automotive Destino que acaban de presentar Bob Lutz y Gilbert Villereal en el Salón del Automóvil de Detroit. En esencia es un Fisker Karma sin la ecológica motorización que habitualmente llevan.

                    Y es que bajo el capó de este bonito y exclusivo modelo se esconde el mismo motor que llevan los Corvette ZR1, es decir, el impresionante V8 con 639 caballos de potencia que dejan atrás las baterías y el bloque eléctrico del modelo original. Propulsión posterior, cambio manual o automático y las mismas prestaciones que el Corvette son algunos datos muy a tener en cuenta en este interesante sedán deportivo de altas prestaciones.

                    La peor como siempre viene del precio y los altos consumos, esto último algo que no parece preocuparle al cliente tipo al que va dirigido. La comercialización arrancará el próximo verano y las tarifas partirán de los 180.000 dólares (134.750 €), una cifra muy superior a la del Fisker Karma convencional (que cuesta 102.000 dólares/76.357 €).

                      Após tantos problemas com a produção do Karma ( furacão, e agora falência da empresa que fornecia as baterias) não deixa de ser curioso que o "destino" foi mesmo o oposto, utilizarem um bruto e absolutamente anti-green peace motor.

                        Corvette-powered Fisker Karma Set for 2014 Launch

                        We bet a lot of people have dreamed about driving a cool looking Fisker Karma with a powerful gasoline engine under its hood. Well, there’s some good news for you as Detroit-based company VL Automotive has announced plans to launch Corvette-powered Fisker Karma sedans next year.

                        Speaking to Automotive News, former GM vice chairman and VL Automotive co-founder Bob Lutz said the company has acquired 25 unsold Karmas and has settled a dispute with the Asian investor that has prevented his venture from accessing the codes that operate the vehicle’s infotainment system.

                        The V8-powered Karmas will be called Destino and will become available in two versions - with a naturally aspirated 450 HP engine and a supercharged 638 HP variant. Besides powertrain modifications, the Karmas will also gain a new front grille and other design upgrades. The vehicle will cost about $200,000 with deliveries to commence by mid-2014.

                        "It's going to take time. I don't want a rough car that's hard to drive with a bad transmission and high noise levels. At close to $200,000, these things are going to have to be silky and buttery to drive. The sound and feel have to be just right," Bob Lutz said.

                            Karma Revero with hand-painted badges previewed





                            The Fisker Karma is dead. Long live the Karma Revero. Set to be unveiled in 28 days, the updated plug-in hybrid luxury sedan is making its first official appearance courtesy of a teaser showing the design hasn’t changed all that much. While the appearance seems very familiar, Karma Automotive is promising some ‘huge, serious, major upgrades throughout the electronics systems, wiring, charging, battery’ compared to the model before it.
