BMW M Concept para Tóquio? - Rumor

The forums are alight with word that BMW will be bringing something unique to this year's Tokyo Motor Show. According to the BMW-obsessed crowd over at M3Post.com, the Roundel is looking to flex its muscles when it comes to lightweight engineering with an M concept that boasts the best the company has to offer. Supposedly, the chassis will use a plethora of exotic materials to shave off every last pound, including magnesium, titanium, thermoplastic and carbon fiber. Unfortunately, it sounds like the concept will be a one-off piece and not something that's destined for production. A real shame since we could really go for a 1 Series CSL.

That doesn't mean BMW won't use the technology in the concept in its production vehicles, though. The German manufacturer has made it clear that carbon-fiber reinforced plastic is going to be a big part of its vehicles moving forward, and we wouldn't be surprised to see the material joined by other lightweight components as shedding pounds becomes increasingly important to meeting fuel economy and performance goals.

Confirmed: BMW M3 pickup on Nürburgring is an April Fool's gift

We've gotten right to the core of the situation regarding the fly-in-the-ointment BMW M3 pickup spotted doing what M3s do around the Nürburgring last week.

In a chat with BMW's Munich head of product communications, Dirk Arnold, he offered up this quote: "Ah, yes, everyone's been talking about that pickup. But, no, this is... how you call it, an April Fool's Joke" [in German "Aprilscherz" - ed.]. There will be no M3 pickup in our futures, kids. But then Arnold sort of overcommunicated to us by dangling one of those "...in this generation" qualifiers. He then also managed to immediately clarify, "It is hugely doubtful that BMW will ever during our lives produce such a vehicle, in any segment." Oh, pooh.

What about a publicity stunt entering the one-off in the Australian V8 Ute racing series? (Honestly one of the most entertaining racing series on the planet based on our one trip to witness it.) "Well," chortled Arnold, "we have the one unit available if they'd be interested, don't we?"

On April 1, a press function has been organized near Munich to show off the future M5 "concept," plus the current M3 and a whole series of unproduced M3-based prototypes, including, says Arnold, one folding hardtop variant that is not the one we all think it is. There will also be the mischievous pickup in attendance.

We then asked for a drive exclusive in Munich on April 1 with the pickup and Arnold returned our serve with "If I did that, then I'd have every journalist in the world calling me to do the same."

Must be nice to have the largesse to build and race one-off 414-horsepower M3 variants (444-hp with the 4.4-liter V8 used in the GTS version) that will never see public roads.

                            Para o mercado chinês.

BMW introduces another Special Edition M3 Coupe for China

In 2010, to celebrate the year of the tiger in China,
                            BMW
launched the M3 Tiger Edition, a special edition M3
                            Coupe
available in limited quantity. Just a year later, BMW is preparing to introduce another special M3 Coupe for the Chinese market. Dubbed Matte Edition, the new M3 limited edition offers buyers the choice of two unique exterior paints, black matte or gunmetal grey.
The bespoke colors are creating by combining a metallic finish with a silky matte clear coat. The M3 Matte Edition also includes black chrome side air intakes, red brake calipers, lightweight 19″ high-gloss alloy wheels and blacked out exhaust pipes.
Inside, as expected, carbon fiber has been extensively used, starting with the trim and matching special black carbon fiber leather for the seats along with contrasting red seams for the seat edges and door armrests.
The Chinese-market BMW M3 Matted Edition is powered by the same naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8 engine found across the standard M3 lineup that churns out 420 horsepower and 400Nm of peak torque.
Pricing and availability are yet to be announced.

Rumormill: BMW 3 Series GT could actually be new 4 Series

We've heard a few times that BMW is working on a 3 Series Gran Turismo, but a rumor floated at Germany's Auto Motor und Sport claims the GT may instead be an all-new 4 Series. If true, BMW Blog says that a 4 Series could be offered as a four-door coupe that would help BMW compete with offerings like the A5 Sportback. The move would also enable BMW to offer a more stylish vehicle that slots well below the 6 Series in price while still demanding a premium over the 3 Series. And keep in mind that BMW has already green-lit the 6 Series Gran Coupe, which will feature two-door styling and four physical doors when it arrives in 2012.

Given that Audi has feverishly expanded its lineup the past few years, we wouldn't blame BMW for countering with a 4 Series, but this is the first we've heard of it, so we'll keep this one squarely in the rumormill category for now.

G-Power takes BMW M3 GTS from 450 to 720 hp

G-Power lives up to its reputation as the tuner with the most impressive power upgrades. After breaking record with several M3, M5 or M6 models, the German tuner takes the limited and special

M3 GTS to a new level.
The hardcore coupe which was released last year and sold out in time record (only 150 units were ever built), is powered in its natural state by a 4.4 liter V8 engine that produces 450 horsepower. In standard configuration,

GTS runs from standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 305 km/h. But some people wanted more power and G-Power presented earlier this year their plans to upgrade the M3 GTS.

will give the M3 GTS over 600 horsepower, but they have managed to exceed the expectations. The first three G-Power M3 GTSs have arrived with 720 horsepower. The engine displacement of G-Power M3 GTS was increased by 10 percent and the company also developed a special version of the their SK II CS Sporty Drive supercharger system for the BMW M3 GTS. This supercharger system also includes a rebuilt engine with special low-compression forged pistons.
Top speed and acceleration times are unknown at the moment, but we expect the G-Power M3 GTS to run to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds. More details in the near future.

                                    Ver para crer!
                                    http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...cial-pictures/

A few weeks ago our spies snapped a BMW M3 pick-up being thrashed around the Nuburgring by M Division engineers, and now BMW has released the official pictures of its one-off M3 ute.

So what's this BMW M3 Pick-Up all about?

This M3 Pick-Up is the result of M Division's engineers asking 'what if?’. Apparently it started life as an after-hours project, but it will be officially unveiled tomorrow at an event in Germany (alongside the Concept M5 super saloon, which will appear at next month's 2011 Shanghai motor show) and a whole host of other mouth-watering M Division metal. The reveal neatly coincides with April 1, but we’re rather glad this expensive engineering one-off is BMW's idea on an April Fools' joke. Of course there are no current plans for production, but the Z3 M Coupe began as an after-hours project too...

We believe the M3 Pick-Up is based on the existing M3 Convertible, which already has the necessary bracing and extra stiffness to accommodate such drastic bodywork changes. There’s no a flip-down boot lid, a metal-covered load bay with under-floor storage, and a canvas cover. And to make this BMW M3 Pick-Up more mad, it’s a convertible thanks to a lift-out targa-style roof panel, and can even be fitted with a towbar.

Under the bonnet is the M3's excellent V8, though we don't yet know whether it's the standard 414bhp 4.0-litre, or the 444bhp 4.4-litre from the limited-run GTS. Our guess is it sticks with the 4.0-litre engine, as the M3 ute sends power to its rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox – the GTS was only sold with the dual-clutch M-DCT transmission.

                                    Anything else?

In the cabin the BMW M3 Pick-Up maintains the standard M3 chairs, although they gain a splash of colour from M Division’s famous tricolour stripes. There’s carbonfibre trim too, but this M3 Pick-Up appears to be based on a pre-facelifted M3 as it features an old iDrive controller.

Of course, this isn't BMW’s first M3 pick-up. When CAR visited M HQ back in 2007 the engineers had a battered 1980s 3-series with its rear-end chopped to form a pick-up bed, and under the skin was the four-cylinder engine from an E30 M3 and a limited slip diff. Our guide, workshop boss Jakob Polschak, mimed a few opposite-lock heroics, before an engineer threw some rubbish in the back, fired it up and headed off to the tip. Here’s hoping this car eventually lives such a cool life.
