Como te he dicho en otras ocasiones, eventos tan importantes como el Salón del Automóvil de París no sólo sirven para mostrar al público y prensa los nuevos modelos sino que también avanza los planes futuros de muchas marcas. Honda es una de la que ya ha soltado mucha de esa interesante información.

Entre las noticias más relevantes podemos citar la llegada de una segunda carrocería para el mercado europeo derivada del Civic. Será el formato familiar el elegido y aunque no adelantan fechas, sí dicen que veremos un concepto a lo largo del año que viene. De igual modo el Civic recibirá la mecánica 1.6 i-DTEC con 120 CV de potencia y unos consumos muy ajustados. Basta decir que el nivel de emisiones será de sólo 94 g/km de CO2. Se podrán adquirir en diciembre.

De igual modo podemos destacar la reconfirmación por parte de los responsables de Honda de una versión deportiva con el apellido TypeR para el Civic. Este modelo servirá para que la firma regrese al WTCC este mismo mes de octubre en Suzuka.

Entre los planes más a largo plazo, Honda propone más vehículos híbridos y la llegada de la pilha de combustible también en Europa, algo que debería tener lugar en 2015. Todavía queda un largo camino por recorrer, pero en Honda tienen claro que las energías alternativas tendrán cada vez más peso y no quieren quedarse fuera.

Today, at his Paris Motor Show Press Conference, Honda’s European President, Manabu Nishimae announced the addition of an all- new Civic ‘wagon’- style model to the Honda range and confirmed the introduction of a new Civic Type R, for Europe, in 2015.

New Civic ‘Wagon’
A new derivative of Honda’s European Civic will be introduced in the form of a Civic ‘wagon’ model. A concept model will be shown next year.

Civic Type R for Europe
Thrilling, sporty products are part of Honda’s DNA. In addition to the introduction of a new NSX, Honda has confirmed the development of an all-new Civic Type R for Europe. The Type R brand has a passionate following from Honda customers and the new model will again aim to set new standards in performance and handling. Developed specifically for the European market and with the application of technologies developed through Honda’s participation in the World Touring Car Championships (WTCC), the all-new Type R will aim to become the fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle on the Nurburgring race course. This new model is scheduled for introduction in 2015.

1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine added to new European CR-V and Civic
Nishimae today announced that Honda’s new 1.6 litre i-DTEC diesel engine will be added to the recently launched European CR-V. This model will be introduced during 2013.
By the end of 2012, the 1.6 i-DTEC engine will be available on Honda’s Civic model. Delivering class-leading CO₂ emissions of 94g/km, the engine will enable the Civic to offer an exceptional balance of performance and economy. The lightest engine in its class and delivering 300 Nm of torque at 1,500 rpm, the Civic will deliver an exceptional mix of sprightly performance, agile handling and low emissions.
This engine is the first from Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology series which will see Honda renew all existing engines in Europe over the next 3 years.

European Civic races in WTCC from October 2012
The Civic WTCC car developed by Honda Racing Team JAS will make its debut at the Suzuka round in October. The racing machine has been tested by Gabriele Tarquini and will be driven by Tiago Monteiro. Honda are excited about our return to racing and will race the full season in 2013 with both the drivers.

New range of hybrid technologies
Honda firmly believes hybrid technology will play a critical role in the reduction of CO₂ emissions. Honda will build on its hybrid expertise to introduce three new hybrid systems. Each system will possess unique characteristics and their deployment will reflect varying customer needs.
Firstly, Honda will further develop its lightweight and compact one-motor hybrid system with the aim of achieving No1 fuel economy among all hybrid vehicles. Improvements in motor output and battery performance and a newly developed transmission will help to extend the zero emission electric driving range.
Honda is also developing a new more powerful two-motor hybrid system for mid-size vehicles.
Finally, a highly efficient and high output 3-motor hybrid system, the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) will focus on driving performance. This technology will be applied to the new NSX.
Honda believes this range of new hybrid technologies will deliver unrivalled driving performance and fuel economy.

Next generation Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle for Europe
Honda considers fuel cell electric vehicles to be the ultimate environmentally-responsible technology and as such, has attempted to lead the industry in R&D and sales activity. The introduction of the FCX Clarity in 2008, demonstrated Honda’s progress in this field. Starting in 2015, Honda will launch an all-new fuel cell electric model which will showcase the significant technological advancements and cost reductions that Honda has accomplished since the launch of the FCX Clarity in 2008. This model will be introduced to Japan, USA and Europe.

Honda admits renewed F1 interest

The head of Honda R&D has told Autocar he hopes the marque can return to Formula One in the future, fuelling speculation it could return when the sport moves to turbocharged engines

Yoshiharu Yamamoto, told Autocar: “On a personal level I love racing, but there is a lot involved when you are in F1 – it is the very top of auto racing and that requires a large commitment. But it is true that we do look up at those races and hope that one day we can take part again.
“I do not personally think we can just go straight back immediately, but there is potential for the rules to change and attract us. I follow the rules, certainly, and if they present an opportunity then it would be nice to go back.”
Honda recently committed to the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), where the team will run a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. As a result, the next Honda Civic Type-R road car, due for launch in 2015, is widely tipped to run a turbocharged engine.
In an exclusive interview with Autocar magazine this week Honda president Takanobu Ito has admitted the firm is developing other turbocharged engines for sale in Europe, shifting the firm away from its long-held support of high-revving naturally-aspirated units.
That shift could tally with a renewed interest in Formula 1’s revised regulations. However, Yamamoto admitted the firm had to hit other targets before it could consider returning to F1 for the first time since 2008.
“This is my personal view – not that of Honda – but I feel the first thing we must do is win in the WTCC, and then perhaps we can look further afield,” he said.

As vendas acumuladas de automóveis híbridos da Honda ultrapassaram, no final de setembro de 2012, o milhão de unidades. A marca foi alcançada quase 13 anos após o início da comercialização da primeira geração do modelo Insight, no Japão, em novembro de 1999.





A tecnologia híbrida representa um passo nos motores de combustão com vista à produção de veículos totalmente elétricos. A Honda tem vindo a explorar as potencialidades do seu sistema híbrido IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) para expandir a sua gama de veículos híbridos, comercializando atualmente oito modelos híbridos em aproximadamente 50 países, incluindo três modelos na Europa – Jazz Hybrid, Insight e CR-Z Hybrid.


A marca japonesa anunciou a introdução de um novo sistema híbrido com dois motores para modelos de média dimensão e um sistema extremamente potente, com três motores e elevada eficiência (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD – Super Handling All Wheel Drive), que proporciona excelentes prestações e economia de combustível. Honda and Proton have signed an agreement this week to explore new opportunities in developing technology and a new product lineup.
Malaysia’s national automaker Proton Holdings has established a partnership with Japan’s third largest car manufacturer Honda. This tie-up could result in jointly developed technologies and future models, as well as the possibility of sharing car platforms and production facilities.
While Honda is already making the CR-V in Malaysia, for Proton this deal could provide them access to technology which might help increase their exports. This announcement from Proton comes after two failed negotiations with Volkswagen and PSA Peugeot Citroen.

As a reminder, Proton's parent DRB-Hicom Bhd owns Lotus.

The next-generation Honda Civic Type-R will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that could produce as much as 300bhp, according to Yasuhisa Arai from Honda’s R&D centre.
Previous reports suggested it would use a development of Honda’s 1.6-litre motorsport engine, but Arai told Auto Express that a 2.0-litre capacity was necessary to ensure the Type R could be more powerful than the Renaultsport Megane 265.
Honda is using the Megane as the benchmark and has pledged that the new Civic Type R will beat the 265’s Nurburgring lap record for a front-wheel-drive car when it arrives in 2015.
Arai said: "We have an idea of the products our rivals are developing and regardless of what anyone else produces, our car will be the fastest front-wheel-drive model around the Nurburgring when it goes on sale. And we will do whatever we need to in order to make that happen."
What's more, Arai said that despite using turbo power he hoped the engine would still offer the top-end rush of the old naturally-aspirated VTEC Type-R engine. Honda is also investigating a trick suspension set-up that should help minimize torque steer and a range of other performance-boosting enhancements.
These include fitting a mechanical limited-slip differential and maybe even rear-wheel steering (although this would mean redesigning the standard Civic's torsion beam rear suspension setup). The firm has just showcased its new Precision All-Wheel steer at an event in Tochigi Japan, which we tested on a US-market Accord.
The system boosts cornering speeds and turns both rear wheels inwards slightly under hard braking to stop it weaving around.
The only issue is cost. Honda UK wants the new Civic Type-R to start from no more than £25,000 to make sure it is competitive on price. But is it really possible to achieve both this target and the lap record? Time will tell...

O motor eléctrico que referes é incorporado na própria transmissão DCT e na foto é para a versão de 3 motores Sport Hybrid SH-AWD. Na versão de i-DCD, o motor eléctrico tem 20 kw. A Honda não divulgou potência total (fala-se em cerca de 140 cv), apenas o motor térmico de 1.5L DOHC com ciclo Atkinson, VTC+VTEC. Para além disso, a bomba de agúa e o ar condicionado são eléctricos.

German brands get hammered in engine reliability report

Japanese brands come out on top

UK-based Warranty Direct has gone over their data and released a report that details which companies build the most reliable engines.
According to their warranty claims, Honda builds some of the most durable engines as their failure rate is just 0.29%. Toyota and Mercedes weren't far behind as their failure rates were just 0.58% and 0.84%, respectively. Rounding out the top five were Volvo with 0.90% and Jaguar with 0.98%.

At the other end of the spectrum with the worst manaufacturers, MG Rover took the crown for building lackluster engines with an astounding failure rate of 7.88 percent. Audi and MINI fared slightly better as failure rates were clocked at 3.71% and 2.51%, respectively. Booby prizes were also awarded to Saab (2.49%) and Vauxhall (2.46%) for a less than stellar showing.
While all engines aren't created equal, neither is the cost to repair them. Warranty Direct says an engine failure in a Range Rover Vogue recently set them back £13,000 ($20,640 / €15,515).
