Infiniti plans S-Class Coupe rival

Infiniti to make high performance coupe and saloon to rival Mercedes S-Class

Infiniti is planning a range-topping high performance coupe and it will be inspired by the Essence concept from Geneva 2009.
The car, due within six years, is tipped to be the firm's answer to the forthcoming Mercedes S-Class Coupe. What's more, a saloon version, that would compete with the normal S-Class, could arrive first, along with a hot variant produced by a new Infiniti performance division to rival AMG.

Company President Johan de Nysschen said: "An Infiniti halo car is important for our future. It should have a strong emotional character and is likely to be a powerful and exciting coupe." He then added: "I would like to see commercialisation of the Essence concept towards the back end of the decade."
However, de Nysschen quashed rumours Infiniti would produce a Porsche Cayman rival based on the Emerg-E concept from Geneva last year. "We won't do a small a small sports car as that is a declining sector."

The details come as Infiniti laid out bold plans to increase its product line-up by 60 per cent and double its range of engines in a bid to increase global sales from 200,000 to 500,000 by 2020.
De Nysschen explained: "By 2016 we will start firing quickly with new product and revamps of current cars."
Key to this will be the firm's collaboration with Mercedes via Infiniti's owner Nissan and its Alliance partnership with Renault.

The first all-new Infiniti to appear through this deal is the Q30 premium hatch, the concept of which has just been unveiled at a special event in Milan. Due in 2015, the Q30 shares its underpinnings with the Mercedes A-Class and will be built at Nissan's Sunderland plant.
Infiniti's executive design director Alfonso Albaisa revealed, that the production version of the Q30 will stay close to the concept car's looks and, that in addition to Q30, he was currently working on eight future road cars, two of which were all-new, rather than replacements for current models. He said: "Sharing with Mercedes allows us to explore much more than before like large sedans with super horsepower."

However, while Infiniti will share platforms with Mercedes, de Nysschen said it won't be taking any AMG engines and hinted that it would have its own performance division.
"There is a reason we are in Formula 1 - to see us turn up the dial in performance," he added.
Such cars could use the firm's hybrid technology to help boost performance, but they wouldn't be fully electric. Even though de Nysschen pledged there would be an electric-powered Infiniti in future, it would be positioned somewhere between a "commuter car", like the Nissan Leaf and a performance model like the Mercedes SLS E-Cell.

O vice-presidente da Nissan sublinhou: “não faremos um Mercedes Classe S ou um carro desse tipo. Já o fizemos antes. Queremos um topo de gama apelativo e diferente”. Sem entrar em muito pormenores, Andy Palmer adiantou à Automotive News que a Infiniti está a trabalhar no Essence concept (na imagem) de forma a encaixar duas portas traseiras e tornar o interior mais confortável. Especula-se que o modelo poderá ser feito a partir da plataforma de tração traseira da parceira Mercedes-Benz.

O coupé de quatro portas poderá ser lançado em 2017, ao qual se poderá juntar na mesma altura uma versão de produção do Emerg-E concept. Contudo, Palmer ressalvou que esse modelo está previsto, mas não recebeu ordem de produção.

Infiniti topo de gama com motores V6 de 550cv e 700cv

It is being said that Infiniti is busy with the development of a powerful hybrid sedan that will be based on the Infiniti Essence concept. This upcoming hybrid sedan will become the new flagship model in the comapny’s product portfolio.

The Essence concept was unveiled way back in 2009 and now, global chief Johann de Nysschen has hinted at a production spec model that could come towards the end of this decade. While he refrained from divulging any specific details, it is being said that the four-door, long-nosed sedan could be sold with the Q80 Eau Rouge or Q90 Eau Rouge moniker.This upcoming model won’t be a direct rival to the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Audi A8 as the upcoming model would be a four-door coupe that would rival the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz CLS and BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe.Powering this upcoming Infiniti flagship will be a new hybrid system that would comprise of a V6 3.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine that would be supported by an electric motor.

The combined power output of this hybrid powertrain would be around 550 bhp (410 kW). Also on offer would be a second engine variant that will comprise of an all-new V6 3.7-liter engine and electric motor that will bestow the motor with a max power output of 700 bhp (522 kW). Power will be sent to all four wheels through a Attesa all-wheel drive system that can be found in the GT-R.The upcoming Infiniti flagship could be launched in 2017 or 2018 and will have a starting price of around 200,000 USD.

Infiniti presents Q80 Inspiration: Infiniti's vision of category-breaking, supreme luxurious driving – a top-of-the-line, four-seat fastback that rises above the crowd. It's an audacious and elegant step forward for Infiniti as a global player designed to shake up the status quo in the premium large four-door club – a no-compromise ambassador of driver-centric powertrain and onboard technologies.

At 15:30 local time on October 2 in Hall 5 of the Parc des Expositions de Versailles in Paris, Infiniti will introduce the progressive Q80 Inspiration to the media and provide a glimpse into its high-performance and efficient hybrid-electric powertrain implementation as well as additional technologies.

In profile, Infiniti Q80 Inspiration extends to 5,052 millimeters (198.9 inches) with a long wheelbase of 3,103 mm (122.2 in) framed by custom 22-inch five-dual-spoke lightweight alloys. It strikes an imposing stance with its width of 2,027 mm (79.8 in) and height of 1,350 mm (53.1 in).

"After showing Q30 Concept and Q50 Eau Rouge, Infiniti is eager to show the upper range of our portfolio expansion," said Infiniti Executive Design Director, Alfonso Albaisa. "In Q80 Inspiration, we wanted to capture that unforgettable feeling when you experience something important, something beautiful, something magnetic for the first time."

The Q80 Inspiration's expansive, edgy, sensual interpretation of the Infiniti brand really makes a statement. There are no side-door mirrors to break up the aesthetics of the unmistakable profile. The full roof length of the teardrop passenger greenhouse is accentuated by lightweight acoustic glass. And its doors open portal style, which allows the stunning cabin to be fully on display while driver and passengers step in and out with ease.

A concept as impactful as Q80 Inspiration is set to push boundaries in more ways than through the beauty of its attention-grabbing skin. The cabin is able to bring together the four occupants in a highly stylized and personalized ambiance of the highest quality. Carbon fiber, aluminum and leather surround those inside in spacious "1 + 1 + 1 + 1" seating.

Earmarked for an advanced adaptive suspension, the light and rigid chassis combines with the acoustic glass all around and additional sound deadening to promise a driving and ride experience among the very best.

A design and technological highlight to which Infiniti's four worldwide design studios will refer regularly in coming years, the Q80 Inspiration four-door fastback is to be taken as clear intent to have an entry into the newly defined premium fastback segment.

Em relação à motorização:

A 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged direct injection V6 creates 450 hp on its own, but comes paired with a nine-speed automatic and a hybrid system that pushes overall output to 550 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Infiniti says the electric portion of the powertrain is programmed to cover turbo lag for a more linear feeling of acceleration. Infiniti said today that this is an all-new aluminum-based engine that is part of a new engine family set to be introduced over the next two years. Furthermore, the company plans to double the number of engines it offers over the next five years.

The car powers its rear wheels under normal driving conditions, but it can send up to 50 percent of the torque to the front if need be. Drivers can also manually maintain the all-wheel drive mode if they prefer.
