DETROIT and SHANGHAI – The all-new Chevrolet Malibu made its global debut today, with simultaneous introductions in the United States and China – two of the nearly 100 countries on six continents where it will be sold. Chevrolet's first global midsize sedan will provide customers around the world with expressive design, advanced technologies, ride performance and fuel-efficient powertrains.

"This all-new Malibu delivers on the intangibles of today's Malibu but gives customers even more: more style, fuel efficiency, content and features, craftsmanship, and dynamic capabilities rivaling high-end sedans."

Product highlights for Malibu in markets around the world include:

Expressive and efficient exterior
"The exterior design of the all-new Malibu carries DNA from its sister vehicles, the Camaro and Corvette, to bring a sporty sensibility to the family sedan segment," said Bryan Nesbitt, executive director for GM exterior design and Chevrolet Brand Champion.
A wider stance, broad shoulders and an integrated rear spoiler bring a new athleticism to Malibu and give it a more aggressive appearance. The new Malibu has a 114 mm (4.5-inch) shorter wheelbase and 1,574 mm (62-inch) front and rear tracks that are more than 50 mm (2 inches) wider than the model it replaces.
Other exterior design cues include Chevrolet's dual-port grille, projector HID headlamps, larger Chevrolet bow-tie badges in front and rear, and new Camaro-inspired LED dual-element taillamps. Wheel sizes range from 16- to 19-inch options to suit an array of buyer preferences.
The new Malibu's exterior is anticipated to be SAE-certified as one of the most aerodynamically efficient cars in the segment, with a coefficient of drag (Cd) rating near Chevrolet Volt's Cd of .280. Because of Malibu's new shape and design, engineers were able to remove 60 counts of wind drag compared to the model it replaces.
Roomier, more refined interior
The new Malibu interior was designed to bring an element of sophistication to everyday driving, featuring an all-new dual cockpit design that creates an inviting, roomy and comfortable environment. The increased width of the new Malibu means a more spacious cabin. Compared to the previous model, it has nearly 113 liters of additional interior volume, along with more shoulder and hip room.
The Malibu interior features metallic, chrome or wood accents located around the shifter, surrounding the center stack, around the instrument cluster and on doors and the steering wheel. Soft, ice blue ambient lighting reflects off of and complements chrome accents and ensures even, consistent illumination along the instrument panel and in storage pockets. Ice blue lighting on the center stack dials, exposed ice blue French contrast stitching, soft-touch and textured surfaces, and strategic applications of noise-deadening materials add to Malibu's interior refinement.
The Malibu also has a number of storage areas, including a radio face that articulates up and down to reveal a six-inch deep storage area behind its seven-inch touch-screen radio display – a first in a midsize car. Malibu will also offer a full range of the latest infotainment options, including new color radio systems and an available navigation system.
Malibu will include Chevrolet's new MyLink infotainment package for most global markets. It builds on the safety and security of OnStar and seamlessly integrates online services like Pandora® internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio®. MyLink integrates wireless connectivity through Bluetooth to enable hands-free use of selected smart phone apps while the device remains safely stowed.
MyLink features a high-resolution, full-color touch screen display designed to manage the number of steps required to complete a task. MyLink also adds stereo audio streaming and wireless control of smart phones, building on the Bluetooth hands-free calling capability already offered in many Chevrolet vehicles.
People around the world will have a wide array of engine choices when buying a new Malibu. In total, Malibu will be available with ten different fuel-efficient and powerful 4- and 6- cylinder engines around the world. Malibu will be available in many markets with both manual and automatic transmissions and they can choose from gas, diesel or LPG-fueled engines. A turbo engine option will be available for some markets. Both left- and right-hand drive models will be available to meet the needs of all markets where Malibu will be sold.
Driving experience
The new Chevrolet Malibu delivers precise ride and handling. It has been engineered to be best-in-class and on par with more expensive sports sedans. Benefiting from continuous refinement of an award-winning global architecture, engineers have tested, tuned and calibrated the Malibu on rural roads, highways, freeways and GM validation facilities around the world.

Contributing to the Malibu's ride and handling characteristics are:

• A solid body structure as stiff as any in the global midsize sedan market, allowing for precise tuning and dynamic vehicle control
• A premium steering gear for smooth, precise responsiveness and on-center feel
• Proven and continuously refined McPherson strut front and mutli-link rear suspensions
• Large, ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes, clamped on by dual-piston front and single-piston rear aluminum calipers, which are expected to deliver segment-best stopping distance
• An isolated engine cradle for tuned, refined feedback, without noise or vibration
• Fuel-saving electric power rack-and-pinion variable-effort power steering, resulting in effortless low-speed maneuvers and a higher degree of steering feel at higher speeds
• Chassis control technologies include four-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS), full-function traction control, four-corner electronic stability control (ESC), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), brake assist system (BA), corner brake control, hydraulic brake fade assist and drag torque control.

Safety features
When it comes to safety features, the new Malibu will be one of the best-equipped in the segment. The Malibu will also be pedestrian protection-compliant in all markets where it is sold.

The Malibu will also offer these standard and available safety features for all global markets. Additional features will be available in selected markets, to be announced later:

• Dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags
• Driver and front passenger pelvic/thorax side-impact airbags
• Roof rail airbags with rollover protection
• Rear park assist is available
• Available rearview camera system

OnStar is also included in Malibu's safety features and includes Automatic Crash Response, as well as improved voice recognition technology, remote diagnostics, remote door unlock, Stolen Vehicle Slowdown and six months of uplevel Directions and Connections service that includes Turn-By-Turn Navigation.
The new Malibu comes in various trim levels, depending on the market, along with ten exterior colors and up to four interior color combinations, depending on the model selected.
The Malibu will be built in manufacturing facilities around the world, including the United States and China.

Ora aqui está uma excelente notícia para quem gostou do carro mas lamentava o facto deste provavelmente não vir a ser vendido na europa.

Chevrolet presentará el Malibu europeo en Frankfurt

Chevrolet ha anunciado que Frankfurt será la ciudad europea escogida para presentar el nuevo Malibu en el viejo continente. La verdad es que después de haberlo introducido hace unos meses en Shanghái para China y en Nueva York para Estados Unidos, ya dábamos por hecho que estaría en la feria junto al resto de las novedades europeas de Chevrolet.

El Malibu, como ya nos hemos aburrido de contarte, es un coche técnicamente debe mucho al Opel Insignia, con el que comparte plataforma, y llegará el próximo año (sin que conozcamos una fecha aproximada) para llenar el hueco dejado por el Epica, al que superará en cualquier aspecto posible, desde estética a tecnología y acabados. Lo primero debería quedar patente viendo sus fotos oficiales; lo segundo, contemplado su nutrido equipamiento, que contempla ocho airbags, ópticas LED y todas las niñeras electrónicas de un coche de su segmento.

El anuncio de Chevrolet, que prácticamente ni nos hacía falta, sirve al menos para que podamos confirmar los motores disponibles en Europa: un 2.4 a gasolina y un 2.0 diésel. Entregarán 169 y 164 CV respectivamente, y podrán acoplarse a un cambio manual o un automático, ambos sin especificar. Más adelante se sumarán nuevas mecánicas (Chevrolet dijo que habría un total de 10, aunque algunas serán específicas de algunos países), y ya sabemos que en EEUU se comercializará próximamente una versión híbrida que utilizará un pequeño motor eléctrico para ayudar en las aceleraciones.

El nuevo Malibu, que ha celebrado su debut mundial con presentaciones simultáneas en Estados Unidos y China, será la piedra angular de la presencia de Chevrolet en el Salón del Automóvil de Frankfurt 2011. En Europa, donde el Malibu no se había comercializado hasta ahora, la nueva versión saldrá a la venta el año próximo y será el nuevo buque insignia de la marca.

Aspecto estilizado y sensación atlética de nuevo cuño

En comparación con el modelo anterior (que no había salido a la venta en Europa), el nuevo Malibu tiene una batalla 114 mm más corta (2,737 mm), mientras que sus vías delantera (1,577 mm) y trasera (1,574 mm) son más de 50 mm más anchas que las de su predecesor. Su porte más ancho y su alerón trasero integrado confieren al coche un aspecto más enérgico.

Gracias a las novedades de forma y diseño del Malibu, los ingenieros pudieron reducir en 60 puntos la resistencia al viento, en comparación con el modelo anterior. Con un coeficiente aerodinámico cercano al 0,28 del Volt, el Malibu será uno de los coches más eficientes aerodinámicamente de la gama de turismos de Chevrolet.

El diseño exterior también incluye la emblemática parrilla doble de Chevrolet, potentes faros delanteros de xenon o de descarga de alta intensidad (HID), grandes logotipos de la pajarita delante y detrás, y nuevos faros traseros dobles de LED inspirados en el Camaro. Las llantas de 17 o 18 pulgadas satisfarán los gustos de todo tipo de clientes. Se ofrecen nueve colores para el exterior y hasta cuatro combinaciones de colores para el interior, según la versión.

Más espacio, confort y refinamiento

El nuevo Malibu presenta una novedosa cabina doble que crea un entorno acogedor, espacioso y cómodo. Su mayor anchura se traduce en una cabina más espaciosa. En comparación con el modelo anterior, tiene más volumen interior, así como más espacio para hombros y caderas.

Los detalles metálicos o cromados, la suave luz ambiental del panel de instrumentos y de los compartimentos de almacenamiento, así como la costura a pespunte, añaden refinamiento al interior. Se han aplicado materiales de insonorización en lugares estratégicos para disfrutar de una conducción relajada y silenciosa.

El Malibu dispone de numerosas zonas de almacenamiento, entre ellas un cajón de 15 centímetros de fondo al que se accede levantando el frontal de la radio, que presenta una pantalla táctil de siete pulgadas, toda una novedad en un coche de este segmento. La completa gama de modernas opciones de información y ocio que ofrece el Malibu incluye nuevos sistemas de radio y un sistema de navegación. La conectividad inalámbrica por Bluetooth permite usar en modo manos libres diversas aplicaciones para smartphones con el dispositivo guardado a buen recaudo.

Ajuste preciso que permite una excelente conducción

Los clientes podrán elegir entre dos motores eficientes y potentes de 4 cilindros, 2.4 gasolina con 169 CV y 2.0 diesel con 164 CV. En Europa, el nuevo Malibu estará disponible con transmisión manual o automática.

El Chevrolet Malibu se ha diseñado para estar a la altura de sedanes más caros en cuanto a conducción y dinámica. Aprovechando la mejora continua de las galardonadas berlinas de tamaño medio, los ingenieros de GM han probado, ajustado y calibrado el Malibu en carreteras rurales, autopistas, autovías e instalaciones de pruebas de la empresa del mundo entero.

La sólida estructura de la carrocería es tan rígida como las mejores del mercado mundial de sedanes medios. Esto permite la máxima precisión y un control del vehículo dinámico, factores determinantes de las excelentes características de conducción del Malibu. Otros sistemas que contribuyen al buen rendimiento del Malibu son la excelente dirección, que ofrece una respuesta suave y precisa, la suspensión frontal McPherson y suspensión trasera de eje semi-rígido, y una cuna del motor aislada para impedir la transmisión de ruidos al habitáculo.

Sólidas prestaciones de seguridad

En cuanto a prestaciones de seguridad, el nuevo Malibu será uno de los vehículos mejor equipados del segmento. Incluirá medidas para la protección de los peatones en todos los mercados en los que salga a la venta. Entre las prestaciones de seguridad que se ofrecen de serie figura un conjunto de 8 airbags: airbags para conductor y acompañante de doble etapa, airbags para impactos laterales con protección de pelvis y tórax para conductor y acompañante y airbags de techo con protección antivuelco. Un sensor de aparcamiento trasero y una cámara trasera vienen de serie en los modelos medios y superiores.

La fabricación del Malibu se llevará a cabo en instalaciones del mundo entero, entre ellas fábricas de Estados Unidos, Corea del Sur y China.

Quanto a mim o sucesso destes modelos continua a depender essencialmente do preço.

Se for uma boa oportunidade custo/qualidade poderá ter alguns fãs. Caso contrário, o status vai manter a escolha pelos Passat e afins.

Frankurt 2011: Chevrolet Malibu (versão europeia)
Lo hemos visto en tantas muestras internacionales que ahora el Malibu llega a Europa con carácter de novedad menor. Pero no por ello deja de ser importante para la división Chevrolet Europe, que pretende lograr unas ventas que con el Epica no fue capaz de obtener.

El nuevo lenguaje de diseño de Chevrolet queda muy patente en el estilo del Malibu, con un frontal característico en los modelos de la marca en el que hay que resaltar el enorme logo presidiendo la parte central de la parrilla. En la zaga encontramos un acertado toque "a Camaro" que añade deportividad sin restar elegancia al conjunto. En resumen es mucho más coche que su antecesor, aunque también sabemos que será bastante más caro y no podrás llevarte uno por 18.000 €.

Still, it's hard to make a purchase decision when the price is a secret and the guy in the suit isn't talking. For a solid value judgment we're simply going to have to wait until GM coughs up some prices. By then it'll be time to take a second, longer test-drive in a production-spec car on real roads on our own turf, away from the controlled confines of the proving ground.

Nunca percebi porque é que, no mercado americano, pegando neste exemplo do Epica, trata-se de um modelo apresentado em 2011, e por lá denominam-no "Epica 2012" ou "Epica 2013"...

Nunca percebi porque é que, no mercado americano, pegando neste exemplo do Epica, trata-se de um modelo apresentado em 2011, e por lá denominam-no "Epica 2012" ou "Epica 2013"...

Porque lá regista-se assim, pois é o ano em que apenas esse modelo está à venda. Em 2011 está à venda o modelo atual e a nova geração. Digamos que é uma maneira de evitar confusões.

Gosto da cor azul do interior e o design não tá mau. Outra coisa positiva a meu ver é ter poucos materiais do seu primo sem sal insignia.

Contudo não gostei da imitação de pele dos bancos e da madeira no volante.

Updated model will debut late next year

The Chevrolet Malibu is still relatively new, but soft sales have pushed the automaker to give the sedan an emergency facelift to boost consumer interest.

Speaking with Automotive News, GM CEO Dan Akerson said "We are going to do a mid-cycle enhancement, not dramatic, by this time next year." He added that the model would have a revised front fascia so expect it to adopt a new grille which echoes the 2013 Traverse and 2014 Impala.
Despite saying the changes will be relatively minor, Akerson insisted the Malibu is a "good car" and "it'll do okay."
Ironically, there was no mention of the Malibu's botched U.S. launch strategy which saw the pricey Eco variant going on sale several months ahead of more affordable alternatives.

Revelado o facelift do Chevrolet Malibu 2013

The end of the Maliblah?

Chevrolet has introduced the 2014 Malibu, ahead of its launch this fall.
Essentially an emergency facelift, the 2014 model features a revised front fascia with a more prominent grille and additional chrome trim.
Interior changes are more extensive as the Malibu gains a new center console with a longer armrest and two cell phone holders. The car also has new front seats (which improve rear-seat knee room) and a revised rear bench with improved cushion material.
Under the hood, there's a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with stop / start technology that should enable the sedan to return 23 mpg city / 35 mpg highway (US). It produces 196 bhp (145 kW) and 186 lb-ft (253 Nm) of torque and is connected to a revised six-speed automatic transmission that promises to deliver quicker shifts.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine has also been upgraded as it produces 259 bhp (193 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque - an increase of 35 lb-ft (47 Nm).
On the handling front, the 2014 Malibu has revised dampers, an improved power steering system and an upgraded braking system that promises to provide a "more confident feel."
Last but not least, the Malibu gains several new options including Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Penso que o produto em si é bom, tem boa imagem, pena o design frontal demasiado colado ao cruze, que de si já não preza pela beleza!

A traseira está excelente e o interior parece-me interessante.

O nome na Europa não soa bem!
