Wiesmann files for bankruptcy - Autoblog

German sports car manufacturer Wiesmann has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. The filing, which was made to a German district court in Münster, didn't specify any of the financial details that led Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann to this point. The small-scale manufacturer's collapse isn't a massive surprise, as it's product lineup hasn't changed a great deal over the years. Still, the funky coupes and roadsters have always been admired from afar by the Autoblog team.

Wiesmann has been in business since 1993, building retro-futuristic sports cars with engines and transmissions from BMW. According to a report from Motor Talk in Germany, the Dülmen-based outfit had only been producing about 200 vehicles per year, with its most potent models, the 547-horsepower GT MF5 and the track-ready GT MF4-CS (pictured above), presenting a unique dose of performance that is difficult to come by. It's a shame to see them in dire financial straits, but we don't yet know whether the company is staring down liquidation or just reorganization.

Desde agosto do ano passado que a marca alemã lutava contra o processo de insolvência.

Depois de uma infeliz coincidência entre a expansão das suas instalações e o crash económico da altura, desde 2009 que a Weismann lutava para sobreviver. Ao fim de quase 30 anos, a empresa fundada por dois irmãos não conseguiu encontrar nenhuma entidade com vontade de saldar as extensas dívidas para com os fornecedores.Alegadamente, a fábrica que chegou a empregar 125 pessoas fechou a linha de produção, serviços de manutenção e departamento de engenharia a 31 de Março. Restam apenas 6 empregados na Weissman que, no final deste ano, terão também que procurar novo emprego.


A Weismann começou por produzir capotas rígidas e outros acessórios para automóveis desportivos. Mais tarde passou a produzir os seus próprios automóveis, sempre em parceria estreita com a divisão M da BMW que fornecia os motores, caixas de velocidades e transmissões. O modelo mais potente produzido pela Weismann foi o GT MF5 que recorrendo ao motor de V8 4.4l bi-turbo que se encontra também nos BMW X6 M e X5 M, é capaz de atingir 310 km/h e acelerar dos 0-100km/h em 3.9 segundos.Com cerca de 1700 viaturas produzidas, chega assim ao fim da estrada a Weismann, uma empresa que apostava mais de 350 horas no fabrico artesanal de cada automóvel.

Acho este tipo de veiculos totalmente desinspirados, parecem aquelas cadernetas que existiam antigamente, com um cenário e os putos só tinham de calcar as personagens metiam a super mulher a dar uma malha no homem aranha.
Os engenheiros desta merca parece que eram adeptos do decalque, olha agora usa-se isto, pimba mete lá o bigode, olha tambem se usa este e aquele, pimba e pimba... lol

Não tenho muito conhecimento desta marca, mas no TG, há uns dias vi um episódio que tinha um Weissman contra um TVR, prós e contras.

Tendo sido comprada, no ano de 2015, por investidores britânicos, parece que há ideias de trazer a marca de volta, lançando um novo modelo até ao final do ano. Aparentemente, os fundadores da marca, estarão envolvidos nesta ressurreição.

O facto de a marca renascer é uma excelente notícia.

Wiesmann Signs Engine Deal With BMW M, New Model In The Works

TVR isn't the only automaker to come back from the dead, as Wiesmann has struck a deal to source engines from BMW M.

Little is known about the company's upcoming model, but Wiesmann said they have already completed its pre-development phase and signing a contract with BMW will ensure the car has a "Bavarian high-tech heart."

There's no word on which engine the car will use, but Wiesmann has been using BMW M engines since 1993. The company added the agreement will "secure the future of its completely new generation of sports cars."

In a statement, Wiesmann CEO Mario Spitzner said "In the pre-development phase, which has now been concluded, we worked together extremely well and we are delighted to be able to collaborate with our reliable top partner BMW Group."

Wiesmann will reveal additional details about the car in the future, although the company has already said the model will be built from scratch and will incorporate new materials and technology. The vehicle will be positioned as a luxury car and the company will "carefully develop the characteristic Wiesmann design."

Wiesmann isn't exactly a household name, yet they've built a number of coupes and roadsters over the years before suffering financial difficulties in 2013. The company was then acquired by Roheen and Sahir Berry three years later.

Boutique German manufacturer Wiesmann has risen from the ashes, promising to bring a new BMW S63-powered car to production in 2020

Although it’ll be styled much like Wiesmann’s previous vehicles, Project Gecko will sit on an all-new platform. The car will be front-engined and rear-wheel drive, with a 50:50 weight distribution. As far as technical details go, that’s all we know right now.

There are many sports car brands in the world, but Germany’s Wiesmann is one that flies under the radar — even if its daringly divisive design language wants you to notice it. Now, the car company is set to return with its all-new “Project Thunderball,” a car it calls the “world’s first all-electric, rear-wheel-drive, convertible roadster.”

Like all Wiesmann’s, “Project Thunderball” is hand-built in Germany. Unlike its previous cars, this new model is an EV, and has been designed under the ownership of the entrepreneur Roheen Berry who is taking the brand into new realms. Speaking on the car, Berry said: “Project Thunderball is a remarkable moment in time for the Wiesmann brand, and the culmination of a dream of years of design and engineering excellence bringing an all-rear-wheel-drive electric convertible sports car fit for the modern era, where timeless design meets cutting-edge technology. For the first time an iconic two-seater Wiesmann will deliver the performance, handling and spirit for which we are famed, with an advanced, German-engineered all-electric powertrain at its heart. I truly believe we’ve made the world’s most exciting electric sports car.”

With that in mind, the new model combines quintessential Wiesmann looks with its newfound electric power. Twin electric rear-mounted motors push out 680 HP and 1,100 Nm of torque, sending all of that to the rear wheels for a 0-62 MPH time of just 2.9 seconds. It does so thanks to help from carbon fiber, which has been used extensively around the car to reduce its weight to 1,700 KG — impressive, given its batteries. State-of-the-art 800V high-voltage architecture has been worked into the car, allowing Wiesmann to aim for a 500km range and 300kW DC fast charging.

Naturally, tech such as “Wiesmann Intelligent Regenerative Braking System” and five driving modes to change how the car feels and reacts to regeneration are found, further enhancing the electric driving experience. Inside the car, you’ll find a sweeping carbon fiber center display and the trademark Wiesmann seven analog dials sitting alongside plush brown leather, accented with vintage details such as grab handles and quilted seats that are cut with modern elements such as an infotainment system and more carbon fiber on the driver’s touchpoints.

Continuo sem perceber o apeal de um carro destes elétrico. Não diria que é carro de dia a dia, os consumos/emissões não deviam ser muito relevantes.

Um carro destes nunca vai ser um 911 ou o Mercedes SL. Vai ser sempre um 3º ou 4º carro de uso esporádico, e acho que aí o motor de combustão consegue fazer aquele "sentido de ocasião" que um EV nunca vai ter.
