News on Cadillac's efforts to finally create a modern and prestigious full-size luxury sedan with rear-wheel drive have been swirling around the web for some time, and now, we have the first spy shots of a camouflaged prototype of the car. We're still not aware of how GM will address its Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Jaguar XJ andMercedes-Benz S-Class challenger, and whether it will follow the casual three letter nomenclature (GM has registered the "LTS" moniker) or a regular name, but for now, we'll just call it the Elmiraj sedan after the coupe concept that hinted at the design language for a flagship luxury Cadillac model.
One of our sources had previously told us that the new top Cadillac sedan would enter the market in 2016 offering a choice of a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 as well as GM's current 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 that produces 420hp in the CTS V-Sport.
It's safe to assume that Cadillac will also provide a range-topping V8 option, though, we'll have to wait and see if that engine will be the 500hp+ 4.5-liter Twin Turbo V8 that was previewed in the Elmiraj study.
Power will be channeled to the rear- and possibly in some versions, to all four wheels, through an automatic transmission with 9 or 10 speeds.
That's all we have for now, but it shouldn't be long before fresh information lands on our desks, in which case, we'll keep you up to date on all developments.

Speaking to investors, GM president Mark Reuss made the bold claim and revealed that the CT6 will be a plug-in hybrid that is capable of going 0-60 in under six seconds and will have an interior mirror that streams video from the rear camera. Reuss also said that the CT6 will have a top speed of 75 mph on electric power alone and will weigh around 53 lbs lighter than the current CTS despite being eight inches longer.
The company also said that the CT6 won’t be all aluminum but its body will be one of the most advanced in the marketplace. As for the rearview mirror, it will be designed so that drivers can “see through” headrests and other obstacles, similar to what Audi demonstrated on its R8 e-tron.

2016 Cadillac CT6 streaming video mirror unveiled
Cadillac has announced the 2016 CT6 will become the company's first model to feature a "streaming video mirror."Designed to improve rearward visibility, the digital rearview mirror features a 1280 by 240 pixel TFT-LCD display with a pixel density of 171 PPI. Images are feed to the mirror by a high-definition video camera which has a water-shedding hydrophobic coating to ensure it provides a clear image regardless of weather conditions.
Cadillac says the mirror improves field of vision by approximately 300 percent. The automaker also says it reduces glare and provides a "crisper image in low-light situations" compared to traditional glass electrochromatic or auto-dimming rearview mirrors.
If that seems like overkill, owners will be able to revert it to a traditional electrochromatic rearview mirror by simply flipping the toggle on the bottom of the mirror.

Cadillac CT6 twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine animation
Cadillac has introduced their new twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine.Set to debut in the 2016 CT6, the engine produces approximately 400 bhp (298 kW) and 400 lb-ft (543 Nm) of torque. It will be connected exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Cadillac says the engine is one of the "most power-dense V-6 DOHC engines in the world" as it produces 133 bhp (99 kW) per liter. The company went on to say engine is far more powerful than the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that resides in the Audi A7 as well as the twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine that powers the BMW 740Li.
Besides offering V8 levels of performance, the engine has start/stop technology and a cylinder deactivation system which temporarily deactivates two cylinders when maximum performance isn't required. Cadillac says this should improve fuel efficiency approximately six percent.
The twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine will go into production later this year at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Michigan. It will eventually be followed by a "new version" of the company's naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6.
