citação:In the 1988 season Citroen participated in the French Super Touring car championship. Drivers were Carole Vergnaud, Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Jean-Pierre Jarier. This year the AX was very succesful.
From the 10 races, 7 times the car ended on the podium. The car was looking very wild with big spoilers and big wheels. It was very hard to find a AX model inside this race-machine. The next year the AX SPORT TURBO was replaced by the more powerful BX 16V TURBO model. So it made a short but impressive appearance.
AX TURBO RALLYCROSS
citação:In the early 90s a number of interesting rallycross AX cars were seen. They competed in the Rally-Cross Championship of France. For example in 1991 a total of 4 different AX turbo cars were in the final standings as well as 2 tuned AX SPORT cars.
In the 1991 season Yves Gallais drove an AX 1360 Turbo 4x4, Philippe Wambergue drove an AX 1400 Turbo 4x4, Paul Chateaux drove an AX 1700 Turbo 4x4 and Daniel Archambault was driving an AX 1900 bi-turbo 4x4. All four cars competed in division 2. Due to the very experimental nature of the cars the results were not as good as they might have wished but the audience loved to see them on the track.
The AX cars were looking wild and dangerous. They had a lot of power. One of the cars, the AX 1400 Turbo 4x4 had a 1470cc engine (enlarged standard 1360cc block) which was able to deliver over around 300hp which is a lot. For the 1992 season tuner Denis Mathiot had created a 1905cc 16V Turbo engine for this car to replace the 1470cc.
This new engine could deliver around 470hp. When considering the car's weight of only 960kg, the performance was phenomenal. During the race at Faux-Bergerac (July 1991) Chateaux crashed his AX 1700. It was damaged so badly that the driver retired for the rest of the season and sold the car to Christophe Vaison. Vaison managed to get the car fixed again by the end of the season and used the AX 1700. However during free-practice the AX encountered severe technical problems due to not being fully recovered from the crash.
A lot of these cars were used also within the Andros Trophee. This was a nice way of testing the car in the winter season when the RallyCross season is on hold.
Olha olha se não é o motor do BX 16v sujeito a umas valentes modificações
