Audi Working on Compact A3 Minivan to Compete with BMW's 1-Series GT - Carscoops
When one German automaker comes out with a fresh proposal entering a new niche, you can be sure that it won't be long before their local rivals follow suit. We've seen this happen many times in the past and we're going to see it again with Audi that is said to be planning an A3 tall hatchback / minivan of sorts targeting BMW's upcoming production version of the Active Tourer Concept, which we hear will be called the 1-Series GT (Gran Turismo).

The story comes to us via Automotive News, which states that the new Audi model is known internally as the "elevated space vehicle" with insiders calling it the "Spacer". Like all future compact models of the VW Group, it too will be based on the MQB platform sharing its engines and other parts with the A3.

The report goes on to say that Audi's A3 Spacer will be approximately 4.5 meters or 177 inches long and will have either five or seven seats. It could be shown as a concept as early as September at the Frankfurt Motor Show with the production model to reach the market in 2016 or 2017.

Audi A3 MPV confirmado para produção, concept chega a Frankfurt no mês que vem

Could be known as the V4

A new report indicates Audi bosses have agreed for an A3-based MPV which could receive the V4 moniker.
It will allegedly be offered in five- and seven-seat configurations and ride on the MQB platform. Audi already built a concept for this new model but they haven't decided yet whether to show it next month at Frankfurt Motor Show. A production version should be out in about three years from now.

This isn't the first time we hear about an Audi A3 MPV as in July last year former sales and marketing chief Peter Schwarzenbauer said the car would ride on an enlarged version of the MQB platform and be offered with a wide variety of power units, including a 180 bhp (134 kW) 1.8-liter TFSI, a 222 bhp (166 kW) 2.0-liter TFSI, along with a 2.0-liter TDI available with 141 bhp (105 kW) and 175 bhp (130 kW).
There were also talks about a hybrid version featuring a 1.4-liter TFSI producing 148 bhp (110 kW) coupled to an electric motor outputting 107 bhp (80 kW).
