Audi beats BMW with first laser lights in production car, special edition is most powerful R8 ever

Audi has confirmed the R8 supercar will be the first production model to bring laser-powered headlights into production, beating the BMW to the punch.

Audi is scoring the coup with a run-out special R8 supercar, named the R8 LMX. It’s the most powerful R8 yet, usurping the 542bhp R8 V10 Plus at the top of the R8 tree.
The R8 LMX’s uprated 562bhp V10 powers it to 6.2mph in just 3.4 seconds. Other spec goodies include standard-fit carbon ceramic brakes, a fixed rear spoiler and aerodynamic front winglets, and Audi’s seven-speed ‘S-tronic’ dual-clutch gearbox. The R8 LMX, of which just 99 will be built, will cost €210,000 in Germany (circa £172,000).

It’ll go on sale in ‘early summer’ 2014, just ahead of BMW’s laser-light equipped i8 hybrid supercar, which is available from August 2014. BMW has to instead settle for the i8 being the first ‘series production car’ with laser lights, as its build total isn’t limited, in contrast to the R8 LMX.

This isn’t the first time Audi’s used the R8 to show off clever light technology. R8 was the first car to introduce full LED headlights in 2008 and it also introduced progressive LED indicator lighting at its facelift in 2012. Audi also claimed a breakthrough with the Matrix LED system in the A8 in 2013.

The 2015 Audi R8 LMX recently made its debut at the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans and now the company has revealed the official promo for the impressive car with multiple Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.

The three minute video walks us through all of the key upgrades found on the R8 LMX and there’s no doubt that Audi will receive a lot more than 99 orders for the car which is of course just how many units will be produced. Happily for those that miss out, the next-generation Audi R8 is due out soon.

The real headline of the Audi R8 LMX are its laser headlights. At its launch, Audi said it was the world’s first production car fitted with laser lights but since deliveries of the BMW i8 have already commenced, it’ll have to settle with second.

Nevertheless, Audi has long led the way when it comes to conquering the darkness. The R8 was the first car to boast all-LED headlights way back in 2008, which was followed up in 2013 when the R8 adopted special Matrix LED headlights. Now with the LMX and its laser high beams, which increase the line of sight dramatically, the Ingolstadt-based automaker is taking another shot at brightening up the night.

Apart from the headlights, the LMX offers all of the good bits from the standard Audi R8. You get a 5.2-liter V10 engine producing 570 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, a seven-speed S-tronic transmission, carbon ceramic brakes with red anodized calipers and Audi’s Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. The LMX also receives a special carbon-fibre spoiler, front lip, rear diffuser and side strakes along with high-gloss black tailpipes.

Audi apresenta o seu modelo mais rápido

Com 570 cv, a edição limitada R8 Competition é capaz de chegar aos 100 km/h em 3,2 segundos. Será exibido ao público no Salão de Los Angeles.

A Audi anunciou o R8 Competition, modelo que fará a primeira aparição em público daqui a menos de um mês no Salão de Los Angeles. Limitado a 60 unidades, exclusivas para o mercado norte-americano, este será o modelo mais potente e mais rápido da marca de Ingolstadt. O motor FSI V10 5.2 já é conhecido das versões de topo do R8 convencional, mas aqui surge com 570 cv (mais 20 cv que o atual topo de gama o R8 Coupé Plus. Além disso, é capaz de acelerar de 0 a 100 km/h em 3,2 segundos e de atingir os 320 km/h de velocidade máxima. Surge acoplado em exclusivo a uma caixa automática S tronic de sete velocidades.

Esta versão do desportivo topo de gama da Audi inspira-se no R8 LMS de Le Mans. Para além de linhas que remetem para o modelo de competição, possui elementos em fibra de carbono. Esteticamente, destaque para o sistema de escape desportivo com ponteiras em preto brilhante. Predominam ainda os detalhes em fibra de carbono mate no exterior: no spoiler traseiro, baía do motor, capas dos espelhos, lâminas laterais, spoiler dianteiro e difusor traseiro. Os componentes em carbono contribuem para a redução do peso e para melhorar a força descendente. Há ainda jantes pretas e pinças dos travões em vermelho. No interior, destaque para aplicações em fibra de carbono no tablier e consola central e soleiras das portas iluminadas com o lettering “R8 Competition”.

As primeiras unidades deste R8 Competition serão produzidas em Neckarsulm, na Alemanha. Estará disponível para encomenda a partir do início de novembro e as primeiras entregas estão agendadas para o início de 2015.

Já, aqui há uns tempos andou um pela minha zona, azulão e tive a oportunidade de fazer uns kms à frente dele. Só as proporções dão nas vistas

Tal qual um lambo que no mesmo percurso causou apenas a mesma sensação, porque também tinha uma cor discreta, preto.

Este custou a ultrapassar-me e eu ía de casal de 2. Foi giro ver um lambo a 40 kms/h atrás de mim (a largura pode ser algo complicado).

O carocha, pode ser menos "olha para mim" quando comparado com os outros, mas também dá nas vistas. No geral acho que tudo o que é mais largo/baixo/ruidoso que a maioria é olhado de outra forma, é apreciado.
