O que surpreende não é (como todos pensam) a aceleração... é a travagem
Quase todos na 1ª vez que andam chegam ao fim da reta da meta, travam travam e ficam parados a 200metros da curva. É preciso voltar a celerar e depois travar mais tarde.

Tiago Monteiro que no ano passado subiu ao Pódio na terceira posição, vai participar no 29º Grande Prémio da sua carreira, ao volante do Midland M16.
"Este Grande Prémio dos EUA constitui uma das melhores recordações da minha carreira na F.1. A primeira subida ao pódio nunca mais se esquece, mesmo se o ambiente não era o mais agradável, perturbado com o grave problema que apresentaram os Michelin", lembra Tiago Monteiro, que sabe bem que a sua tarefa foi facilitada: "Mas algumas corridas antes, as equipas fornecidas pela Bridgestone tiveram graves problemas e ninguém se preocupou".
"A emoção de subir ao pódio foi fortíssima, mas fui o único a festejar com champagne e a abrir a Triple-Magnum da Mumm. Poucos minutos depois estava a receber uma mensagem do Presidente Jorge Sampaio e do Primeiro-ministro José Sócrates. Portugal vibrou e recebi 4234 emails e 540 mensagens entupindo o meu telefone", lembrou Tiago Monteiro emocionado.
"De volta à realidade, após a corrida do Canadá onde terminei pela oitava vez este ano, a segunda melhor posição em 2006, cheguei aos EUA com uma motivação extraordinária. Só o Fernando Alonso que terminou todas as corridas e depois aparece e o Michael Schumacher e eu com apenas um abandono. Penso que é um bom indicador", continuou.
"Já me vejo a tentar relançar o meu recorde de terminar 18 corridas em 19 como em 2005. Esta motivação ajuda num circuito que conheço bem pela força das circunstâncias. Quando cheguei à América, tinha os meus amigos da Champ Car à minha espera. A corrida de Indianapolis não vai ser fácil para a nossa equipa. Temos muito trabalho a fazer no Set-Up, muito arriscado devido à maior recta das pistas onde corremos, e depois às curvas muito fechadas do interior do traçado. Um verdadeiro desafio para os nossos engenheiros este fim-de-semana", rematou Tiago Monteiro.

MF1 Racing deve utilizar motores Cosworth
De acordo com a imprensa internacional, a Cosworth seria parceira da MF1 Racing na próxima temporada.

Este último fim de semana em Montreal, Alex Shnaider, proprietário da equipa, e Bernard Ferguson, director-comercial da construtora, estiveram reunidos e ambos chegaram a um acordo.
Caso isso se confirme, os motores da Toyota, que hoje empurram os carros da equipa russa, seguem para os carros da Williams em 2007. Assim a equipa de Grove dispensaria os Cosworth da mesma maneira que a Toro Rosso deve fazer. A equipa "júnior" da Red Bull deve receber os Ferrari, já que a a "principal" negocia com a Renault.

Eu sei que é no final de 2006...
O que queria dizer era que quando se julgava que a Renault n seria competitiva este ano, o problema da Michelin sair ainda n fazia parte dos argumentos...
Agora que faz, n se pode dizer que para o ano a Renault vai manter a performance baseado no que se dizia à 1 ano atrás...

The history books will forever show that Tiago Monteiro earned third place at the 2005 United States Grand Prix and shared the podium with Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello.
Although we all know the fourteen Michelin-shod cars did not participate and the race was one of the strangest in F1 history, it was nevertheless a special day for both Tiago and the nascent Midland team (still competing as Jordan at the time).
With teammate Narain Karthikeyan finishing fourth, the two yellow cars displayed solid reliability and, along with the Ferraris and Minardis, at least gave the disappointed American fans something to watch.
We asked Tiago for his memories of that race and his thoughts on returning to the Brickyard this year.
Q: Last year’s US GP was a strange weekend for everyone. How do you feel about going back there?
Tiago Monteiro: “I’m quite curious, actually, to see what kind of welcome we will receive from the fans this weekend. In any event, it’s always fun for me to come back to the US. I know a lot of people who live here from my Champ Car days, so we had a barbecue in Indianapolis with my former mechanics and engineers, and it was great to just kick back and catch up. On the racing side, it’s obviously a track where I’ve had some strong moments. I don’t think it will be the same this year – definitely not – but we’re still looking for a good result, because it’s a track where we were already performing well last year, and with the evolution of the car now, we should be even better.”
Q: What are your memories of last year?
TM: “Lots of intense moments. It was an amazing opportunity for my career, really -- a crazy opportunity that I grabbed. It was something that happens once in your lifetime, and it was probably one of the craziest races in F1 history. I’m actually glad I was part of it.”
Q: When you went to the grid, did you actually know that the others were all going to stop?
TM: “We knew for sure that some of the drivers would not be starting. The only thing we had in mind was that there was an opportunity to score points. We knew that, but we had no idea that all of them were going to stop.”
Q: What did you say to the team when they all started peeling into the pits on the warm-up lap?
TM: “I asked, ‘What the hell’s going on?’ They told me, ‘Keep your position, keep your position, they’re all coming in, but the race is still on.’”
Q: Was it hard to find your grid position with so much empty space ahead?
TM: “It was difficult, actually, as there was such a big gap! The worst part was when I realised that I was third at the start, with 70 laps to go. I knew that I needed to pull away as much as I could from my competitors, and then I kept worrying about something going wrong -- a technical problem popping up or something. The good thing is that for 60 laps, I hardly looked in my mirrors, and I was able to push like crazy. I had a very good car there, and I was really competitive compared to the others. But the last 10 laps were very difficult.”
Q: At some point, did you think about what would happen if one or both of the Ferraris retired?
TM: “I didn’t know about the near collision between Michael and Rubens at the time, but afterwards, I learned that they almost touched! In a way, it was better that it ended the way it did. I would have a won a race, fair enough, but I also would have been on the podium with Narain Karthikeyan and a Minardi, and it wouldn’t have looked as impressive. In a few years, people might not remember the circumstances and will only see pictures of me next to the two Ferrari drivers. So in the end, it was probably better.”
Q: What was it like getting out of the car and going to the podium? Michael and Rubens did not seem very happy…
TM: “That’s what pissed me off at the time! Behind the scenes, they were OK: both of them were in great moods; they grabbed me and congratulated me. And then, when they stepped on the stage, they had those long faces. I looked at them and thought, ‘OK, you guys can do whatever you want, but I’m going to celebrate!’ All of my mechanics were down there, shouting and laughing and crying with joy. They deserved it, and I was celebrating for them as well.”
Q: It’s a very strange track, with a long straight and a tight infield. What do you think of it?
TM: “It’s a very tricky one, to be sure. Half of the lap is flat out, so you need a lot of top speed, but the other half is very technical. It’s a very tricky track to set-up for. Even though I know it won’t be the same as last year, I’m looking forward to it, because I really liked it last year. I know our car is a lot better this year, so I want to see how it compares.”
Q: You’ve never driven the Indy oval, but after a year of racing in the USA, you have a good appreciation of how big the 500 is. Would you like to drive in it some day?
TM: “Yes, I was living in Miami that year, but because my team was based in Indy, I did spend much of my time here and I know how important this track is for American fans. I’ve driven on a few ovals, but never Indy, which is probably the most famous track in the world. I would have loved to try it. But hey, you never know… Maybe I will, one day!”

Tiago MONTEIRO: Yeah, well, obviously very special moment for us. We all know the circumstances. But we were there, we took it, we took this opportunity. We enjoyed it as much as we could, and we took advantage of it. It was great, definitely. I had a lot of fun. My team had a lot of fun. I can't thank Bridgestone, Toyota and the team for all that, can't thank them enough.
Tiago, 26 finishes out of 28 races? That’s a remarkable finishing record.
Tiago MONTEIRO: Yeah, it’s good. It’s very good reliability. We would like to have a little bit more pace as well but it’s getting a lot better. We definitely improved since… at Barcelona, the car made a real step forward and we’re getting closer and closer. We’re averaging 1.8s behind pole position at the moment, so it’s definitely quicker and if we can keep this reliability and getting quicker and quicker, that’s what we’re looking for, you know?
To be fighting with some guys up there, we really need between three and five tenths and we should be there soon.
Any animosity last weekend when the two of you came together, you and your team mate?
TM: No, no. I went there and I apologised. I made a mistake, I locked my rear wheels. I went straight to him and apologised, no problems. We talked and everything was clear.
And then you got your football team to knock out his football team!
TM: Well, he’s not happy about that, that’s for sure. I think he took that part worse than the crash on track. He’s a big football fan. Now we’ve got the English soon, so I’m looking forward to that as well. I will have the whole team on top of me!
