A mais mítica corrida de todas cá vai estar mais um ano! Desta vez vai começar as 17h devido aos jogos do Mundial! aqui fica o tópico!

citação:First of all some facts:
- Fifteen out of the 24 automatic entries awarded on the circuits in 2005 were validated within the required deadline, as they had to confirm their participation by 9th January 2006. An earlier release stated that 16 automatic entries that had been validated before the Convers Team (GT1) withdrew at the last minute and substituted an entry under the name of the Convers Menx Team (same category).

- By 18th January 2006, the closing date for entries, 79 requests had been sent in to the Association Sportive Automobile A.C.O des “24 Heures du Mans.”

- The breakdown of the 79 entries is as follows:
16 LM P1s
18 LM P2s
19 LM GT1s
26 LM GT2s

Daniel Poissenot, the A.C.O Sports Manager and Le Mans 24 Hours Clerk of the Course, said just how satisfied Mr. Jean-Claude Plassart, the President of l’Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the Selection Committee are concerning the quality of the entries received. “While the number of entries is very similar to last year, we see that the technical level has risen again and that there has been a comforting increase in the GT1 category,” he said. In addition, to the variety already seen in LM P1 and LM P2, the Grand Touring category has gained both in diversity and numbers with the arrival of a Lamborghini Murcielago in LM GT1 and the Ferrari 430 in LM GT2.

The selection of the first 23 cars in addition to the 15 automatic entries has been made in accordance with the criteria laid out in the event’s supplementary regulations, “taking into account in particular the season-long commitment by the entrants in one of the existing Le
Mans Series,” as Daniel Poissnenot explained.

The Selection Committee will announce the names to be added to the first list after the Sebring 12-Hour race on 18th March, the opening round of the American Le Mans Series. This will be Selections Act 2 for the 74th Le Mans 24 Hours, which takes place in the A.C.O’s centenary year. Another 12 cars will be chosen to bring the overall total to 50,
which will line up on the grid on Saturday 17th June for a start exceptionally put back to 17h00.

In addition to the 50 cars picked the Selection Committee will draw up a list of eight reserves, which will be called on only if there are official withdrawals before 26th May 2006.

In 2007, the official number of starters will be increased to 55 after 5 additional pits have been built and the paddock enlarged in keeping with the circuit renovation plan and the work programmed after June 2006.

O "Gentleman Driver" português causou sensação à Chamberlain-Synergy, aquando do primeiro "shakedown" no Estoril, aonde deixou Bob Berridge positivamente impressionado.

citação:The variety, level of competition and diversity headline the entries selected for the 74th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The ACO selection committee met after the running of the 12 Hours of Sebring to finalize the grid for this year’s running of the world’s greatest endurance race. “We must congratulate those who have decided to build a new-generation car,” commented Daniel Poissenot, the ACO Sports Manager and 24 Hour Clerk of the Course.

“The arrival of these new cars in the category is a source of great satisfaction. But it’s not the only one. We’re delighted by the variety in each category, especially in LM GT2.” All in all, 50 cars plus 8 reserve machines were selected to take part in the Official Test Days on June 4th. Twelve countries are represented on this year’s list.

Headlining the LMP1 category are the two Audi Sport Team Joest R10 TDI’s. Allan McNish, Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen claimed victory in the 12 Hours of Sebring with the brand new diesel powered entry. Now, Audi sets sight on their ultimate goal of 2006: to conquer Le Mans. Creation Autosportif has been granted one entry for the 24 Hours, with their second request showing up as the first car on the reserve list. The hard work from the British outfit to hybridize their DBA Zytek has paid off. Chamberlain-Synergy Motorsport has also been given an entry in the P1 class – with their new Lola B06/10 twin turbo AER. The usual French entrants will also once again tackle the 24 hours. Pescarolo Sport and Courage Competition have both been awarded with two entries each. Courage’s efforts this year comes from a brand new LC70 chassis with Mugen power. Jan Lammer’s Racing for Holland outfit were quick at Paul Ricard with their hybrid Dome Mugen and will be at circuit de La Sarthe in June. Lawrence Pierce’s Lister Storm LMP Hybrid will also be present – after not getting their entry accepted in 2005. The brand new Zytek Engineering 06S has yet to see the light of day on the track but also has a spot in the 24 Hour classic. Finally, newcomers to sportscar racing, Swiss Spirit, have received an entry with their new Courage LC70 Judd combination. All in all, 12 LMP1 machines are on the list, with one reserve entry (the second Creation car).

The LMP2 category also features 12 cars total. Like fellow British team Creation Autosportif, Rollcentre Racing has been given one entry to the race, with their second machine appearing on the reserve list. The new Radical SR9 impressed at Paul Ricard and the ACO for sure has taken a close look at the car’s early success. Local team Welter Racing has been a mainstay in Le Mans, and has one car guaranteed an entry, with their sister machine also appearing on the reserve list. Pierre Bruneau’s Pilbeam will be back for a second year in a row. The rest of the LMP2 contenders come from either the Courage or Lola camp. Five Courage C65 machines (+1 on the reserve list) are set to do battle. Paul Belmondo Racing (x2), Miracle Motorsports, G-Force Racing and Barazi-Epsilon are all in the French classic. German team Kruse Motorsport has an outside chance of making it in – they are on the reserve list, but seventh in line. The Lola contingent is headlined by reigning Le Mans winners, RML with their B05/40 AER. The British team has switched powerplants during the offseason in hopes of added power and reliability. Chamberlain-Synergy Motorsport is back for another year but basically run by the Portuguese ASM team. After not getting an entry last year, Binnie Motorsports have finally made it to La Sarthe. The Zytek powered B05/40 will be a threat to be reckoned with, especially after their fine third place at Sebring. Winners at Sebring, Intersport Racing, will also be back with their AER powered B05/40.

Like both LMP divisions, the GT1 class also features 12 entrants. Headlining the highly-competitive field are the factory Corvette and Aston Martin teams. Both back with two entries, the British will take on the Americans once again. After past years with not much variety in terms of car makes, the GT1 class once again shows its diversity. Five different makes have been invited – and teams from five different countries. ACEMCO Motorsports will represent the Saleen brand, while the Japanese Owners Club (JLOC) will enter a solo Lamborghini Murcielago in the French classic for the first time. Two, if not three privateer Aston Martins will be present: from the Russian Age Racing and BMS squads. A few of the old Ferrari 550 Maranellos will also once again do battle. Larbre Competition, Convers Team Menx and Russian Age Racing are all down to run the “old lady”, but there is a chance one of those teams will swap their Maranello for a new Aston Martin. Finally, the first customer Corvette will compete in the twice around the clock marathon. Winner of the 2006 Dakar Rally, Luc Alphand, will enter a Corvette C5-R.

The highly-competitive GT2 class also shows its diversity with four different manufacturers represented and teams from no less than eight different countries taking part. A total of eight Porsches have been accepted, with another three on the reserve list. Reigning Le Mans winners, Petersen White Lightning Racing are back, and so are Flying Lizard Motorsports, who finished third in 2005. The Lizard’s in fact have been granted a second entry – but will sit on the reserve entry list for now. Other Porsche entrants include the return of Team Taisan Advan. Raymond Narac’s IMSA Matmut team has also made it in. After a monstrous accident in last year’s race totaling their 911, T2M Motorsport have been given another chance to tackle La Sarthe. First timers at Le Mans, Belgian outfit Gordon Racing Team, will be taking the opportunity to race on the legendary circuit. After winning the LMES championship in 2005, Sebah Automotive will be at Le Mans as well. Seikel Motorsport, Flying Lizard Motorsport and Farnbacher Racing have all been given reserve car entries. The main challenge to the Porsches will come from the Panoz Esperante and Ferrari F430 machines. A Panoz for each Multimatic Motorsports and Team LNT have been granted. The British team has also received a reserve entry. Sucderia Ecosse and Team Icer Brakes will both debut the brand new Ferrari F430 GT, while we will also see two Spyker C8 Spyders do battle around the 8+ mile circuit.

All in all, this year’s entry list could very well be one of the best ones yet. There were no major surprises in terms of teams getting in, aside from a few entries in GT2. However, some quality teams were not given an entry. After getting their Saleen S7R to the finish of the 10 hour Mil Milhas and 12 Hours of Sebring (using the same engine in both races), Konrad Motorsport unfortunately were not given an entry to this year’s 24 hours. Group Bio with their Lola Diesel, B-Racing with their Lamborghini and Noble Group with their Porsche all also did not receive a coveted pass to Le Mans. There will always be disappointed teams that didn’t make it in, and that’s part of the selection process. Maybe next year will be easier with the 55 car grid? Nevertheless, the 2006 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be one of the best yet!

-John Dagys

The American Le Mans Series got a huge boost Wednesday with the announcement in New York by the Acura division of American Honda Motor that it plans to enter the ALMS series in 2007 - with the ultimate goal of racing in the premier LMP1 class at Le Mans! The announcement marks the first factory motorsports program for the Acura brand in its 20-year history.

In the words of John Mendel, senior VP of Auto Operations for Acura, "Our entry as a full factory team in the American Le Mans Series will accurately reflect Acura's position as a leader in automotive performance and technology."

The Acura ALMS program features the first race engine developed from scratch by Honda Performance Development in California, which also supplies engines to the Indy Racing League.

By the sounds of it, Acura is in sports car competition for the long haul. In 2007, Acura powerplants will power multiple LMP2 chassis from Lola and Courage, as a prelude to development of a complete Acura LMP1 chassis and engine package to compete in the ALMS and ultimately at Le Mans. Acura's LMP2s will debut at the 2007 Twelve Hours of Sebring in March, and testing will begin this summer.

Acura has competed in the upper echelons of sports car racing before, although never as a full factory effort. Acura engines powered Spice cars in the IMSA Camel Lights series to three consecutive championships in the early '90s.
