Sébastien Loeb and Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak car seek Goodwood hill climb record

"Sébastien Loeb is undeniably the living master of all things unpaved, and, as he proved at last year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, he can chuck a car around just fine on asphalt, too. Now, he's aiming for the top of the charts at the Goodwood Festival of Speed's famous hill climb.

His chariot of choice will be the same Peugeot 208 T16 that took him to the world-record Pikes Peak run, packing 875 horsepower and scrappy all-wheel drive as well as more down force than a locomotive hauling bricks.

Loeb's target is Nick Heidfeld's current record, a blast through the 1.16-mile course in just 41.6 seconds in the McLaren MP4-13 F1 car from the 1998 season. The record was set in 1999.

While he wasn't competing against F1 drivers in F1 cars at Pikes Peak, Loeb's utter obliteration of the previous record time by more than 90 seconds suggests Heidfeld's record is in serious danger."Em Loeb And Peugeot Pikes Peak Car Set For Record Goodwood Hill Climb Run

Bobby Goodin dies following horrific motorcycle accident at Pikes Peak

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb endured early tragedy today, when 54-year-old motorcycle competitor Bobby Goodin crashed after crossing the finish line at the peak.

When we arrived at the summit, we spoke to a couple of photographers and riders who had seen the accident. It seems Goodin crossed the line and was still going at a decent clip when he raised his hand to celebrate making it to the top. He lost the front end on the unpaved section at the top and the bike veered right, launching Goodin over the edge, flipping him end-over-end into a patch of boulders.

When EMTs reached him he was unconscious, so they they performed CPR until he was medevac'ed an hour later to Penrose Hospital. This was Goodin's second time competing, the Flower Mound, Texas native riding a Triumph 675R in the Middleweight class. He competed last year on an Aprilia, seen above.

Sadly, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Goodin has succumbed to his injuries, marking the fifth time someone has died at the Pikes Peak hill climb, the last being in 2005. Our thoughts go out to Goodin's friends and family.

Après le WTCC hier, reprise en main aujourd'hui de la Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak en prévision de GoodWood. Du pur plaisir que de retrouver cette voiture !

Pikes Peak: Dumas vence mas não bate recorde

"Sem o folclore de outras edições, no passado fim-de-semana disputou-se a mais famosa prova de montanha: a 92ª edição da Rampa de Pikes Peak. Tal como o ano passado, em que Sébastien Loeb bateu todos os recordes, este ano voltou a ser um francês a vencer a prova, nomeadamente Romain Dumas.

Aos comandos de um protótipo Norma M20 RD Limited, o francês, que é piloto da Porsche no mundial de endurance (WEC), rodou em 9:05.801, três segundos mais rápido que Greg Tracy. Dumas ficou mesmo assim muito longe do recorde de Loeb do ano passado: 8:13.878, ele que antes da prova já se tinha queixado do estado do asfalto na rampa norte-americana.

Tracy, o segundo classificad à geralo, foi também o vencer da classe para viaturas eléctricas. Ele e o ex-vencedor do Dakar Hiroshi Masuoka colocaram os dois MiEV Evolution III da Mitsubishi Motors North America à frente do favorito protótipo de "Monster" Tajima, que teve problemas com o transponder no seu protótipo, não tendo marcado tempo na última subida. Masuoka foi mesmo o terceiro classificado da geral com o registo de 9:12.204.
