"
However, Euro NCAP also criticized in its evaluation the replacement of the side airbags protecting the head and chest of the crew with simpler side airbags protecting only the chest, which took place as part of Zoe’s intergenerational transformation. It was this that proved to be risky in a side impact on a pole, during which the manikin’s head hit the side window, which would lead to serious injury in a real accident.

But Renault does not agree with this court. He also emphasizes that the simplification of airbags has no reason in its lower price, as is blamed on it – it is said that this will save only some two to three euros per car (approximately 50-75 CZK).

According to Auto, Motor und Sport, the carmaker argues that internal research for the Laboratory of Injuries, Biomechanics and Human Behavior in cooperation with the Stellantis Group showed that none of the 300,000 Zoe specimens registered by this laboratory had an accident simulated according to the Euro NCAP methodology. That is, in such a style it would hit a pillar or a tree.
On the contrary, internal crash tests have shown that the existing airbag protects the head and chest has a negative effect on safety, in a certain type of accident, due to the distribution of air in such an inflatable bag. According to Renault, this was the real reason for using the second-generation airbags in the second-generation Zoe, which the management now certainly regrets given the results of the Euro NCAP tests."

[h=1]2022 Toyota Tacoma falters in key crash test[/h]https://www.iihs.org/news/detail/2022-toyota-tacoma-falters-in-key-crash-test

060722.jpg

The 2022 Toyota Tacoma extended cab pickup earns a marginal rating in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test due to heightened injury risks to the front seat passenger.
The marginal rating applies to vehicles built after October 2021, when Toyota modified the rear leaf springs — arc-shaped steel pieces that stabilize the axle. Vehicles built prior to that date are rated poor. In an earlier test of a vehicle built before the changes, one of the rear leaf springs punctured the fuel tank, resulting in a fire risk and an automatic downgrade.
Toyota’s modifications corrected the fuel-leak problem, but other issues persisted in the more recent tes

The small pickup’s door frame and dashboard intruded into the occupant survival space during the crash, contributing to heightened injury risks to the front seat passenger. Injury measurements taken from the dummy indicated a high risk of injury to the occupant’s right leg and a moderate risk of injury to the left leg. Though the frontal and side curtain airbags performed reasonably well, the dummy’s head also struck the grab handle on the A-pillar on the right side of the windshield.
The Tacoma earns good ratings in five other crashworthiness evaluations — the driver-side small overlap, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests.

ag0bel5s_renault-kiger-scores-4-stars-in-global-ncap-crash-test_625x300_15_February_22.jpeg

It launched as the Nissan Magnite's alter ego - but the Renault Kiger has its own identity for sure. And coming on the heels of last year's good 4-star performance by the Renault Triber MPV, the Kiger has also managed a solid 4 stars. And in fact it beats the overall individual score of the Triber and even the Magnite at 12.34 points of a maximum 17. For Renault this is a far cry from its initial results: Renault Kwid - Zero Stars (2016) Kwid - 1 Star (2016), Duster - Zero Stars (no airbags 2017), and 3 Stars (Driver airbag, 2017), Lodgy - Zero Stars (2018). But it is in-line with last year's Renault Triber crash test that saw it also get 4 Star

On child protection it is a similar 2-star performance as the Nissan Magnite. And the car was tested with child seats strapped in by seatbelts, not Isofix. Similar scores, the fact that they been crashed at the same time, use the same platform, are built on the same production line, do not mean the twin cars are identical. Like the Triber, the Kiger's body shell also received an unstable rating. This has to do with chassis construction at points like the door sill for instance So there are differences between the two cars even though they share a platform.

Alejandro Furas, Secretary General, Global NCAP told carandbike, "There are some parts of the structure we have noticed differences. For example, the lower bit or basically the side structure and lower beam area, both cars are different in terms of the performance. The way they behaving from the frontal crash, they show a little bit of a difference but what will be the case on the side impact? We don't know which one's going to be better." The other weird difference between the two? While neither offer Isofix child seat mounts as standard - the Kiger actually does have them on the base variant. But their top tether fitment catch (at the back of the rear seat) was covered by the seat's fabric. This meant that an Isofix seat could not be used in the test, and a belted seat was used. That resulted in the score reducing for child safety.

image-kia-carens-safety-rating-is-3-stars-global-ncap-crash-test-june-2022-165597389468627.jpg

[h=3]Kia Carens Safety Rating – 3 Stars Global NCAP[/h] Kia Carens has scored 9.30 points out of 17 in adult safety and 30.99 points out of 49 in child safety. The variant crash tested had 6 airbags. Kia offers 6 airbags as standard across all variants of Carens.

Speaking about Kia Carens Safety for adults – The protection offered to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. The protection offered to the driver’s chest was marginal while the passenger’s chest was good. Driver’s and passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the transfascia tube.
Driver’s tibias showed adequate and good protection and the passenger’s tibias showed good protection. The bodyshell and footwell area were rated as unstable and they were not capable of withstanding further loadings. The car offers standard SBR for driver and passenger. The UN95 test showed that the car could pass the requirements. All of the above explains the 3 stars for adult occupant protection.

“The child seat for the 3 year old was installed FWF with ISOFIX and top tether and it was not able to prevent excessive head excursion during the impact, offering poor protection to the head and fair to the chest. The child seat for the 1.5 years old was installed RWF with ISOFIX and support leg and was able to prevent head exposure during the impact offering good protection to the head and chest. CRS marking was ok.

The recommended CRSs did not show incompatibilities. The vehicle does not offer 3 point belts in all seating positions (lap belt in the rear centre position) and ISOFIX anchorages in the rear outboard positions but were not marked according to Global NCAP requirements. All of the above explains the three stars for child occupant protection.”

[h=3]Global NCAP to Kia[/h] Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Global NCAP said, “Global NCAP welcomes Kia’s decision to make six airbags a standard fit in the Carens ahead of a regulatory requirement. However, we expected a better performance from this model. It remains a cause for concern that global car brands such as Kia, that normally achieve 5 star ratings in other markets, are still not reaching this level in India.”

Cars in India to get ‘Star Ratings’ based on crash tests under Bharat NCAP
Union minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that he will soon introduce a new car assessment program for India called Bharat NCAP, wherein automobiles in India will be accorded ‘Star Ratings’ based upon their performance in crash tests. In a series of tweets Gadkari revealed that Bharat NCAP will serve as a consumer-centric platform allowing customers to opt for safer cars based upon their star-ratings, while promoting a healthy competition among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)in India to manufacture safer vehicles.
The minister believes that Star Rating of Indian Cars based on Crash Tests is extremely crucial not only to ensure structural and passenger safety in cars, but to also increase the export-worthiness of Indian automobiles.
How will cars gets Star Rating under Bharat NCAP programme
As explained by Nitin Gadkari, the testing protocol of Bharat NCAP shall be aligned with Global Crash Test Protocols factoring in the existing Indian regulations, allowing OEMs to get their vehicles tested at India’s own in-house testing facilities. “Bharat NCAP will prove to be a critical instrument in making our automobile industry Aatmanirbhar with the mission of making India the Number 1 automobile hub in the world.” Gadkari said in a tweet.
The initiative is aimed at making mobility safer amid the country witnessing a total of 3,66,138 road accidents during the calendar year 2020, causing 1,31,714 deaths. Recently, Gadkari had said the government has set a target to reduce 50 per cent road accident deaths by 2024.
