Euro NCAP latest results

While some car manufacturers are presenting new models at the Geneva Motor Show, Euro NCAP is announcing today the results for four new cars. The Renault ZOE, Skoda Octavia , Toyota Auris and Toyota RAV4 underwent Euro NCAP’s crash tests and have all achieved the overall five stars.

As from 2013, Euro NCAP is now providing consumers with information on the most widely available child seats throughout Europe. For each new car tested, details on the installation of a series of child seats will help parents to make the safest choice for their kids.

The organization is also rewarding Skoda for the following active safety systems available on the Skoda Octavia: Front Assistant, Lane Assistant, Multi Collision Brake and Crew Protect Assistant.

+ Protecçao dos ocupantes no embate frontal e lateral
-Protecçao no embate contra o poste e no embate traseiro.

Toyota Auris MK2 Euroncap crash test
Toyota Auris | Euro NCAP - For safer cars crash test safety rating

toyota-auris-dopo-test-frontale.png

-Protecção do peito do condutor.

However, the rear driver's side door opened during the impact. Such door opening could be hazardous for rear seat occupants and the car was penalised

Toyota Rav 4 MK4 Euroncap Crash test

toyota-rav4-dopo-il-test-frontale.png

However, the driver's airbag was not sufficiently well inflated to prevent the dummy's head from flattening the airbag and making contact, through the airbag material, with the steering wheel. In this test, dummy readings showed that the resulting contact was not hazardous. However, the car was penliased and protection of the head area was rated as adequate.

Subaru Forester 2014-Top Safety Pick-IIHS

IIHS-HLDI: Subaru Forester

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. Both driver and passenger side curtains and side torso airbags deployed during the crash. After the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.

IIHS-HLDI: Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester was redesigned for the 2014 model year. Side ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Subaru as part of side crash test verification.

MODERATE OVERLAP FRONT TEST

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=1730&seriesid=666

Test details:
The Honda Civic was re-engineered for the 2013 model year. Moderate overlap frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by Honda as part of frontal crash test verification.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. The driver side curtain airbag deployed during the crash. After the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury.
Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible.

Small overlap front test results
IIHS-HLDI: Honda Civic 2-door

The Honda Civic was re-engineered for the 2013 model year.
Structure — The driver space was maintained well, with maximum intrusion of the lower interior of 9 cm, and the upper hinge pillar and instrument panel intruded 4 cm.
Restraints/dummy kinematics — The dummy’s movement was well controlled. The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag, which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound. The side curtain airbag deployed and had sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deployed.
Injury measures — Measures from the dummy indicate that injuries to both the left and right lower legs and the right foot would be possible in a crash of this severity. (Note: during the test, injury data from the neck were not obtained, but after the Institute reviewed comparable test
data from Honda, the head/neck injury risk was rated good.)

2013 Volvo XC60
IIHS-HLDI: Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 was introduced in the 2010 model year. Beginning with 2013 models, the side curtain airbags were reprogrammed to deploy in small overlap frontal crashes to improve occupant protection. apr:)

Structure — The driver space was maintained well, with maximum intrusion of the both the lower and upper interior at 6 cm.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — The dummy’s movement was well controlled. The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag, which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound. The side curtain airbag deployed but does not have sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with forward side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deploed.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity

2013 Ford Fusion built after December 2012
IIHS-HLDI: Lincoln MKZ

The Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ were redesigned for the 2013 model year. Beginning with 2013 Fusion models built after early December 2012, structural changes were made to improve occupant protection in small overlap frontal crashes (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door). The tested Fusion and all 2013 MKZ models were built after the structural changes were in place. apr:)apr:)apr:)

In Mazda's test, after the dummy moved forward into the frontal airbag, it rebounded into the seat without its head coming close to any stiff structure that could cause injury. In the Institute's test, movement was similar except the dummy's head grazed the sunvisor, roof, and grab handle during rebound. Injury measures — Measures from the dummies in the two tests, taken together, indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity. Head accelerations from the sunvisor, roof, and grab handle hits were low or negligible in the Institute's test.

Small Overlap Front Test
http://www.iihs.org/ratings/rating.aspx?id=1768&seriesid=266

Structure — The driver space was maintained reasonably well, with maximum intrusion of the lower interior of 13 cm, and the instrument panel intruded 9-10 cm.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — The dummy’s head remained in contact with the frontal airbag, but its head still moved toward the left side of the steering wheel and A-pillar because the seat belt allowed excessive forward excursion of the head and torso. The side curtain airbag deployed and had sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deployed.

Injury measures — A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that head injuries would be possible in a crash of this severity. Measures indicate that injuries to the right lower leg also would be possible. :sh)

Forces on the right lower leg were just high enough to indicate a moderate risk of injury.
