I Bought a Porsche 993 Turbo!
I Bought a Porsche 993 Turbo!
50 years of the Porsche 911 Turbo | w/ Jason Cammisa, Henry Catchpole, Jeff Zwart & Pat Long
For half a century, the word "turbo," has been synonymous with the fastest 911 products coming out of Stuttgart, Germany. From the original 930 Turbo that was affectionately referred to as "the widowmaker," for how the early turbo power delivery would arrive mid-corner, to the iconic 993 Turbo driven by detective Mike Lowrey in the original "Bad Boys," film, to the all-weather capable, continent crushing all-new 992.2 Turbo, these are the 911s that have adorned bedroom walls for the last 50 years and seem poised to continue for the next 50.
Porsche has confirmed a major changing of the guard at the top of its design ranks, with Tobias Sühlmann appointed as the new head of design from 1 February.
The 46-year-old succeeds Michael Mauer, who is stepping down after more than 21 years in the role – a period that spanned the introduction of the Macan, Panamera, 918 Spyder and Taycan and also included the design evolution of the Boxster, Cayman, 911 and Cayenne.
Mauer will support Sühlmann during a transitional period.
In a statement, he said: “Timeless design needs both: durability and new impulses. In view of Porsche's strategic realignment, now is a good time to bring new perspectives.”
Sühlmann arrives from McLaren, where he served as chief design officer from September 2023. During his brief tenure there, he oversaw the final design development and launch phases of several models, including the 750S and Artura Spider. He also led advanced design for the British supercar maker’s next generation of hybrid and electric supercars.
Sühlmann, who studied at the same Pforzheim School of Design as Mauer, has worked at a number of car makers. He started at Volkswagen in 2005, moved to Bugatti, served as head of exterior design at Aston Martin, had a stint at McLaren and then played a role in shaping the Bentley Batur, before returning to McLaren.
Singer's New DLS Turbo: Wildest 911 Restomod Ever! | 4K
Plenty of Porsche 911s have been reimagined by Singer, but its latest offering – the DLS Turbo – might well be its masterpiece. For the 99 clients who’ll commission Singer’s DLS Turbo services, the restoration will include a 710bhp twin-turbo flat-six that revs to 9k, but even that’s overshadowed by the outrageous carbonfibre bodywork, inspired by the rare 934/5 endurance racer from the late 1970s. In this world-exclusive review, we drive it on the road and on the race track, but can a Porsche 911 reimagined through Singer’s DLS Turbo services possibly live up to its near-$3m price tag?
The new filing, taken from the German Patent and Trademark office, is described as a “gear selector device for selecting gears of a motor vehicle transmission”. Essentially, it’s an automatic transmission with Drive, Neutral and Reverse, that also allows a manual shift using a traditional H-pattern when you want to shift gears yourself.
Koenigsegg launched a similar system on its CC850 hypercar a few years ago where it offered both a manual and automatic experience in one car thanks to a six-speed gated manual along with an automatic nine-speed. The CC850 also had a clutch pedal, but there’s no mention of a third pedal in the Porsche patents.
Rather than a mechanical linkage to the transmission, the Porsche manual system operates using shift-by-wire tech. This in theory means there should be less of an issue with higher torque figures – often a limiting factor for manual gearboxes and usually better handled by an automatic transmission.
Porsche 963 RSP POV at Laguna Seca | Raw Sound (Parade Lap)
The Porsche 963 RSP is essentially a race car that somehow became street legal.
Built from Porsche’s current 963 LMDh prototype, the 963 RSP is a one off hybrid endurance race car modified just enough to drive on public roads. It's still a single seat cockpit, still brutally fast, and still feels every bit like a full race car. Somehow it even has a cup holder.
This run was driven by our good friend and Porsche factory driver Patrick Long, one of the most accomplished Porsche racers of his generation, with class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Daytona, and Sebring.
Our friends at Porsche USA and Tangent Vector invited our team out to Laguna Seca during Car Week 2025 to help capture the 963 RSP in action. This was more of a parade style lap and display run for the crowd during Car Week rather than a full push lap, giving people a chance to see and hear the car out on track.
Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS Review
The Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer DLS ($3,000,000 USD) is a restomodded classic that aims to be more than just a study of extreme light weightedness. It has been meticulously designed to try and provide the best driving experience possible, and was built in collaboration with Williams F1 engineers. That means a 9200 rpm redline, a screaming exhaust, and a power to weight ratio that could make a hypercar blush. But does it drive as well as it looks? And how approachable is it to drive quickly? Thomas and James can’t wait to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode.

New 1067bhp Porsche 911 Slantnose! '80s Hero Reborn | 4K
The Porsche 911 Slantnose is back – and in rude health! It’s called the F-26, it’s the creation of Gunther Werks, and it’s a remastered Porsche 911 based on the 993-generation German sports car. The new slanted front-end pays tribute to both the 935 racers of the 1970s, and road-going 930 Turbo Flachbau (translated as Slantnose, or Flatnose) from the 1980s. But if the retro carbonfibre body doesn’t do it for you, then the 1067bhp twin-turbo 4.0-lite flat-six powertrain and overhauled chassis might. In this world exclusive first drive of the Gunther Werks F-26, we review it on road, drag race it on track, and visit the factory where it comes to life.
