Uma explicação diferente que me parece mais lógica:
In current Mercedes-AMG nomenclature the numbers after the model designation aren't specifically tied to engine displacement as was previously done (Ex: C32, C43, the W210 E55). Now the numbering hierarchy is more so based on model prestige or heritage.
The 65 AMG's (M275) only being available on the most expensive vehicles such as the S, SL, & formerly CL. Those engines currently use a 6.0L V12, not a 6.5L.
Next tier down, the first 63 AMG engines while being close the 6.2L displacement of the V8 were named after the 300SEL 6.3 from 1968 - 1972 and that engine was heavily used in racing during that era. Now the new 63 AMG, so far only used in the 2015 C63, is a bi-turbo 4.0L V8.
Then there is the 55 AMG, currently only in use in the SLK. This is currently the only AMG model where its engine displacement match the model name. However past 55 AMG engine has had different iterations where they 5.4L and sometimes supercharged.
Lastly, the cheapest AMG's use the M133 "45 AMG" engine. The biggest reason the name is 45 is because if Mercedes were to use "CLA 20 AMG" it would probably be too close to the CLA 200 sold in Europe. But to show its place in the AMG hierarchy, it is 45 to slot below the 55 AMG performance & price.
