Suzuki’s all-new lighter, longer and more spacious Swift will go on sale in the UK this autumn, promising better dynamics, increased performance and improved CO2 emissions and economy.
The Swift’s all-new platform increases the wheelbase by 50mm and the overall length by 90mm. The body is also lighter and stiffer, and the front and rear tracks are 10mm and 5mm wider respectively. Suzuki claims the Swift, its best-selling model, is much improved dynamically as a result.
See official pics of the new Suzuki Swift
Suzuki’s focus on improving the dynamics is evident when looked at next to the five-door's styling, which is a subtle evolution of the outgoing car’s handsome design.
Interior pictures have yet to be revealed, but Suzuki has indicated it will be more sophisticated and “dynamic” than the outgoing car. The increase in wheelbase will also create more space for rear passengers.
The launch engine will be a new 1.2-litre petrol engine to replace the outgoing 1.3-litre unit. The Dual VVT unit produces 92bhp and 87lb ft, both figures slightly improved over the 1.3 unit. A manual gearbox will be standard and an automatic optional.
However, the real gains have been in improving fuel economy and cutting CO2 emissions. Economy is now 56.5mpg, 7.8mpg more than the 1.3, and emissions are 116g/km, 24g/km lower than the outgoing car.
A reworked 1.3-litre diesel capable of 109g/km and 67.3mpg (119g/km and 62.8mpg in the old Swift) will be available from early 2011, while a 1.6 Sport model is also expected to be launched in 2011.
Full UK pricing and specification will be announced later in the summer, but the Swift is likely to cost from around £11,000.

Cumps.

Suzuki to Preview Hot Hatchback in Geneva with Swift S-Concept
Ever since Suzuki presented the latest generation of the Swift in the summer of 2010, we were wondering if the Japanese automaker had any plans to add a sportier version to its supermini's range. Well, it appears that Suzuki does have something in mind as the company will be exhibiting a new concept car named the SWIFT S-CONCEPT at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
All we get for now is a teaser rendering showing the latest Swift sub-compact dressed in a new and more aggressive outfit with blistered front wheel arches, a new front bumper and grille design, unique headlamps and exterior mirrors plus a large roof wing.
According to Suzuki, the overall development concept was to create "a stylish sport compact with premium performance." Apparently we'll have to wait until the Geneva Salon to find out what the Japanese automaker has up its sleeve.

Suzuki Swift S Concept
(mais imagens na fonte)
Swift S-CONCEPT
The SWIFT S-CONCEPT is based on the new generation of the Swift. Suzuki created it by adding sporting flavour to the Swift’s stylish design in line with a “more sporty and exciting” theme.
Exterior design
The SWIFT S-CONCEPT is based on the new Swift, which Suzuki unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. It embodies the concept of creating a premium sport compact with uncompromised performance. The body is lower and 60mm wider than that of the standard Swift, so it has such a strong presence that it doesn’t seem as compact as it actually is. Dynamic-looking front and rear bumpers and a big rear spoiler evoke high levels of acceleration and power, and 18-inch wheels give a sense of solidity and stability. The headlamps and rear combination lamps have exclusive designs with high-tech accents.
Colours
Suzuki’s sporty DNA is reflected in a yellow body. Unique intensity and depth in the colour convey the excitement that’s one of Suzuki’s core values. Plus, the paint has a high lustre that looks different from different angles, conveying dynamism and speed. The yellow, black, and dark-grey metallic colour scheme for the exterior and interior was inspired by an athlete’s running shoes.
Interior appointments
The steering wheel, seats, and meter clusters have exclusive designs. The cabin layout provides space for four adults. Bucket seats in the front enhance the driver’s feeling of oneness with the car. Parts of the centre console are made of carbon fibre, which communicates a premium identity.

Novo Suzuki Swift Sport
This is the Suzuki Swift Sport, which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September, with an expected on-sale date early next year.
It is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine linked to a six-speed manual gearbox, and produces 134bhp at 4400rpm and 118lb ft of torque.
In a brief statement Suzuki revealed the Sport “offers superior cornering stability and brisker, more responsive handling, thanks to struts with internal rebound springs and an exclusive rear-suspension design.”
Styling changes include a larger front grille and more aggressive bodywork. Suzuki promises “a cabin (that) combines essential sportiness with a high-quality look and feel, plus design features that heighten excitement about the driving experience.” The Japanese firm has not released any images of the interior as yet.
The bodywork changes mean it is 40mm longer than the standard Swift, but it is the same width and height as the standard car.
Safety equipment includes seven airbags and ESP.
