Renault Alpine here by 2015 | Autocar

Renault will launch its Alpine sports car, to be built in a joint venture with Caterham, within three years, giving the firm until the end of 2015 to finish the project it started in earnest last year.

Renault marketing boss Stephen Norman confirmed that the car would not take four years to appear, as had been speculated. He also hinted at the sort of character the car would have, describing it as “not soft”.

“It won’t be more hardcore than a Mazda MX-5,” he said. “What we do will not be soft, but not hardcore like a Peugeot 106 Rallye. You can’t betray the DNA of Alpine. That’s a third of what the car will be."

Norman described that DNA as French and not German. “It must be light and look different, and have a touch of French dash,” he said. “It’s not a car for dandies, though. We know who the buyer is: he’s either French or a Francophile. And the car has technical innovation as part of its DNA.”

The new Alpine will be a clean-sheet design and create a rival for the Porsche Boxster and high-performance versions of the Audi TT. It will be priced at less than £50,000 and will use a Renault engine with around 250bhp.

Renault looked seriously at reviving Alpine in 2007, but the recession meant the project had to be shelved. By the time the market had recovered, the original design was considered too old.

New Alpine Sports car to Compete With Alfa Romeo 4C and Lotus Evora

The upcoming Alpine sports car will not directly compete with the Porsche Cayman says Renault boss Carlos Tavares.

Instead, the Renault and Alpine duo will be directly targeting the recently launched Alfa Romeo 4C and the established Lotus Evora when the two new sports cars debut in 2015.

“It would be arrogant to say we could go head-to-head with Porsche and win. But I think Lotus and Alfa are realistic targets,” said Tavares.

Additionally, Tavares then went onto confirm that both Renault and Alpine are being left enough freedom’s to ensure that the two sports cars are bespoke to each brand.

“If I put Alpine in the big washing machine of the Renault group, it will kill it,” said Tavares. “There is a certain level of commonality between the projects, but what we are being very careful to do is leave both sides freedom to express themselves.

“The two cars must not be brother and sister – they must stand on their own merits, and without too much suggestion of sharing the same parts.”

Suceesor do Alpine A110 successor terá 280 cv

Could weigh 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs)

Renault COO Carlos Tavares has revealed some new details about the upcoming Alpine sports car.
Speaking to Autocar, Tavares said the model will compete in the new 'sub-supercar' segment with the Alfa Romeo 4C. The executive also said the model will appeal to younger drivers and well-heeled enthusiasts.

The car's styling is 70 percent complete and incorporates a number of retro touches including an "arrowhead nose", side scoops and four round headlights. Despite the old school styling, designers are trying to keep the car modern by giving it dynamic proportions.
Speculation suggests the car could be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops approximately 280 bhp (209 kW). It could be connected to a six-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch EDC automatic.

Little else is known about the model but it will reportedly ride on a spaceframe chassis that is constructed out of steel, aluminum and composites. This could enable the car to tip the scales at roughly 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs).
The Alpine A110 successor is expected to be launched in 2016 and cost approximately £50,000. Only a "few thousand" are slated to be built annually.

Alpine needs its 911 - PistonHeads

Get the first car right and the French sports car brand will grow into an empire, Renault says

The first Alpine from the collaboration between Renault and Caterham will be the brand-builder model equivalent to Porsche's 911, according to Renault's head designer.

In a conversation that revealed the scale of the ambition Renault has for the revived French sports car brand, Laurens van den Acker told us that for the first model, "We need to create the 911 of Alpine. Then we can do the Panamera and Cayman. It needs to have all the roots of the brand on which we can build."

We still don't know the spec for the car, which is slated to launch in 2016, but Renault boss Carlos Tavares did reveal that the basics have been agreed. "The layout of platform, engine and gearbox are all decided," he told us, without telling us. The first car won't chase the 911, but instead is expected to aim for the Cayman and Alfa 4C with a mid-engined coupe powered by a version of Renault's 1.6-litre turbo and mated to a faster dual-clutch gearbox. The cost will be nearer £50,000 than £30,000 as first thought. As we previously discovered in an interview with key players, including Alpine's boss, the goal is to be light and fun.

A vision of the car has already been revealed in concept form last May, but we're told the finished item will likely go deeper in its visual references to the pretty A110 of the 60s and 70s, recently chased by PH in the Monte Carlo Historique.

That's what the 'Khmer Bleu' (hardcore French Alpinists) are pushing for, according to van den Acker, and what they'll probably get. "It will be closer to the spirit of the A110," said concept car director Axel Breun.

The desire to emulate Porsche is understandable given its 'most profitable' status but, come on guys, isn't Porsche pretty much untouchable in this market? "No one is untouchable, but it takes a lot of time," Breun told us. "It took them a long time to develop the 911 into something great."

Alpine (pronounced Alpeen if you don't want to upset those Khmer Bleu boys) has definitely got a job on if it wants to avoid the fate of recent Porsche chaser Lotus. Let's hope Alpine's Malaysian money (via Caterham owner Tony Fernandes) is available on a longer-term basis. Alpine's task is arguably tougher than that of Lotus in that the brand has been dormant for so long. Says van den Acker, "The challenge is to somehow fill the gap of 20 years and do a product that's believable." We wish it and Caterham all the luck.

Scoop: Alpine Reportedly Begins Field Tests of New Coupe in…Lotus Guise? - Carscoops

It's not at all unusual for carmakers to cleverly disguise their future models, especially during the early development phase when they use mules to test the platform and mechanical components. These test mules combine a body of a different model with the underpinnings of an upcoming new car, and if not always, most of the times, said body comes from the same brand or at least group (i.e. this Alfa Giulietta-bodied Jeep mule).

What's very rare is for one carmaker to hide and test a new platform under the body of a car from an unrelated company, which is what our spies claim is happening with this Alpine test mule that's wearing a Lotus Exige outfit– albeit modified with wider tracks. At this time, we cannot confirm or deny this information.

Besides the French license plates on the car, our spy photographer told us that the mule was being tested by Swedish suspension company Öhlins together with several other models from Renault Sport such as the Megane RS and Clio.

The actual production Alpine coupe that is being developed by parent company Renault and Caterham as a joint project is due to hit the market in 2016. Renault group boss Carlos Tavares has said that the as-of-yet unnamed Alpine mid-engine sports car will be similar in philosophy and possibly even pricing to the Alfa Romeo 4C. Power will likely come from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four producing somewhere around 280hp, which should be good enough for top notch performance numbers given its lightweight construction.

Said the Renault/Caterham Alpine will be "fantastic"

Caterham Chairman Tony Fernandes has revealed some new details about the company's crossover and city car.
Speaking with Les Echos, Fernandes said the jointly-developed Renault/Caterham Alpinewill be a "fantastic" car that the French can be proud of.
The millionaire went on to say the project has paved the way for a "great partnership" with Renault. He said he hopes to extend this cooperation to other projects including a city car and crossover.
Fernandes also mentioned his desire to create an affordable car with Renault and Dacia. The model would apparently be developed for Fernandes' Tune Group and would be targeted at customers in Southeast Asia.

Renault's Senior Vice President of Corporate Design has revealed some new details about the highly anticipated Alpine revival.Speaking to Motoring, Laurens van den Acker said "The Alpine design is as good as finished." This seems to contradict earlier reports that suggested the car was being redesigned because it received a "mixed reception" from potential buyers.
While he declined to comment on the rumors, van den Acker said they're keeping a low profile but the car is "still on track for 2016." The executive also revealed the model will likely eschew Renault badging as "We've been through all the scenarios, there are pros and cons for every scenario, but to give it its due it's probably best if it's its own brand."
While 2016 is still a ways off, van den Acker hinted we could get a "sneak peak" sometime in the future.

Aliança entre Renault (Alpine) e Caterham poderá terminar

The last time we heard about the Renault-Caterham partnership, things weren’t going really well. Since the project to jointly develop a sports car started in 2012, progress was delayed by Renault’s decision to revise the initial design of its upcoming Alpine sports car. Caterham wasn’t thrilled at all with the decision, as this means its own version of the car had to be modified. However, there is more bad news: Renault and Caterham’s joint venture project may be cancelled altogether. According to a report from Autocar, the two sports cars will still launch on schedule in late 2016, but it is not clear if they will continue to share the same architecture and powertrains.

While neither Renault nor Caterham confirmed or commented on the report, tensions between the two partners have reportedly been rife since it was confirmed the project would be delayed.
The Alpine sports car has been tipped to get 280hp, with the Caterham is said to produce around 300hp. Each car has a target curb weight of 1,100kg (2,425 lbs).

Renault and Caterham set up the Societe des Automobiles Alpine Caterham (SAAC) 50:50 joint venture in 2012, with the goal of co-developing lightweight two-seat sports cars under theAlpine and Caterham brands. Under the terms of the agreement, production would take place at Renault’s Alpine plant in Dieppe.

[...] Where is the Alpine renaissance?

The project progresses, the car will be released as planned in 2016. was at almost exactly, ended design. We will now move into the operational phase with the research subcontractors, some of which will be Norman and near Dieppe.

Could you give us some information about this car? She is very faithful to the Alpine genes that carry the lightness, the agility. It has a fluid, pretty timeless design. It claims his lineage and is also very modern time. Braking, acceleration times: it will be a pleasure concentrated in the corners. Not a car to go fast in a straight line.

A t it a name? Not yet. The name is for the purpose. [...]

Will it have an engine derived from the Renault Nissan organ bank? The choice is stopped? Yes. We start from what exists in the group. I will not say it will not be a specific derivative ... But do not mistake the issue. For me, the point number 1 is to make a good car. And to get there, if you must take a motor Renault, Nissan and Daimler, we will.

Divorce with Caterham has raised many questions. Besides their technical, Caterham was supposed to hand the pot as part of a shared project. Renaissance Will it harder to monetize? [...] Thank you for caring about my case (laughs)! Since November 5, 2012 where they announced the revival of Alpine, there has been the strength of the brand, the passion it arouses. It was expected returns, but we never thought at this point! If today, Carlos Ghosn has validated the decision that produces this car alone, it is that there are objective elements that make us say that we should be able to do it alone. Caterham has given impetus and helped that we can announce the relaunch of the brand. This is the positive point to remember.

This divorce he will affect the final result? No, because an Alpine, it is good or it does not. Release a product at a discount would be to kill the brand.

How many units do you hope the future will be produced Alpine full year? I'd 4000-5000 per year peaks, with a life of 6 to 7 years .

Renault adquire a participação do grupo Caterham

                                        A aventura Alpine continua
