Quattro Concept, detalles de su posible versión de producción
El Audi Quattro Concept nos trae a muchos con el sueño cambiado, fantaseando con su encarnación en forma de modelo de producción. Lo cierto es que llevamos ya meses hablando del tema, pero poco a poco siguen surgiendo detalles y rumores que parecen querer darle credibilidad al asunto.
Hace unas semanas te hablábamos de 500 unidades en serie limitada, a un precio de 100.000€, pero a través de una fuente relativamente segura, ahora hemos escuchado otra versión, y la verdad, cuesta decidirse por la más convincente. Según nos cuentan, la tirada sería de 1.300 unidades, en serie limitada también, y numerada, haciendo coincidir la cifra con el peso del coche en vacío cuando sea modelo de producción. ¿El precio? Este es un punto malo... Parece que la cosa estaría más próximo a los 200.000€, nada menos. Lo cierto es que tenemos tantas respuestas a esta pregunta, como personas hemos preguntado, pero todas ellas hablan de la horquilla 130.000-170.000€.
El Quattro definitivo crecerá en torno a un 5% en todas sus dimensiones, pero será proporcionalmente idéntico al prototipo, por lo que será poco menos que imposible captar las diferencias. Los capós delantero y trasero serán de fibra de carbono, y el coche contará con diferencial trasero electrónico y emulación de autoblocante en el eje frontal para conseguir un efecto vectorial sobre la guiñada del vehículo.
La caja de cambios podría ser una manual como la del prototipo, con la DSG en opción de aguantar el par del bestial cinco cilindros sobrealimentado con 405 caballos (3,2 kilos por caballo).
Si ha de llegar a los concesionarios lo hará con cuentagotas en 2012. Yo apostaría dinero por ello, entre tanto iré buscando en la agenda el contacto con el jefe de comunicación de Audi para ir solicitando ya la prueba por adelantado...
Audi’s radical new Quattro coupé is poised to be given the green light for limited production, according to company sources.
A single engineering prototype, based on an S5, has been built by Audi’s Quattro division. It will be sampled by members of the Audi board before the project gets the official go-ahead.
However, insiders say the Quattro now looks a certainty for launch in 2013. The lightweight, 402bhp, all-wheel-drive coupé will be based on a version of Audi’s aluminium spaceframe chassis, while its body will make extensive use of carbonfibre-reinforced plastics.
The Quattro Concept was first shown at last year’s Paris show, ostensibly as a celebration of 30 years of quattro-driven Audis, and journalists were given a taster drive of a working mock-up of the car last winter.
However, engineers at Quattro GmbH have now built a fully engineered version of the coupé, taking it to close to its final form before series production. While this prototype looks like a standard S5 coupé, it is built around an aluminium spaceframe and uses aluminium body panels. However, the bonnet and bootlid are made from carbonfibre-reinforced plastics.
Audi engineers have told Autocar that this prototype weighs 300kg less than the RS5, despite using basically the same drivetrain and running gear.
However, in its final form there will be further weight-saving measures, including a 150mm reduction in the wheelbase and a lighter interior, including seats made from forged composites and possibly dash mouldings made from hemp.
The upshot is that the production version of the Quattro should weigh as little as 1300kg, at least 225kg lighter than the R8 sports car.

Audi's new Quattro to be an Evoque-style crossover
There’s more disappointment afoot for fans of Audi concept cars. After previous admissions that Ingolstadt wouldn’t build the R8 V12 TDi or an electric successor to the A2, CAR can now reveal that a production version of the Quattro concept first seen at the 2012 Paris motor show has also been canned.
However, a high performance Quattro-inspired coupe could still see the light of day, in the form of a Range Rover Evoque-style crossover, CAR understands.
Why has Audi killed off a production version of the Quattro Concept?
Seems odd, doesn’t it? So much of Audi’s brand value is built around the Quattro myth and mystique, thanks to the reverence in which the first all-wheel drive rally champion is held. A Sport Quattro-inspired limited edition with an RS5 engine would surely have been a no-brainer? Sadly not – the market for ‘conventional’ performance cars is just too stale, Ingolstadt's researchers have concluded. We’ve been spoiled by too many niches, it seems.
In place of the traditional sports saloons and super-estates, crossovers and SUVs are now flavour of the month. Note that Audi has just released its first diesel ‘S’ model (the SQ5) and it’s clear we’re seeing the birth of a new sector of do-it-all performance cars. Don't forget the RS Q3 concept car, too...
So, the next Audi Quattro will be a high-riding crossover?
CAR’s sources hear that Audi is considering a ‘Q-coupe’ to shift the Quattro into the crossover space, although nothing as tall as a normal Q5 or BMW X3. Instead, the ‘Q-coupe’ will be more rakish and sporting, somewhat in the mould of the Range Rover Evoque or Audi Steppenwolf concept from 2001. The stance is said to hint at the original S1 Quattro rally car, so expect a squared-off wheelbase and butch wheelarch shapes. Audi showed a thinly veiled Q2 concept at the 2012 Paris show last week, dubbed ‘Crosslane Concept’, and CAR hears the Q2 will form the basis for the new ‘Q-coupe’.
A new Quattro deserves a five-cylinder turbo motor, and the ‘Q-coupe’ will likely get Audi’s very latest EA555 unit, coupled to a low-friction all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic transmission.
Audi has the choice of basing the car on the architecture of the next A5, or recycling the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB platform, which already sees duty in the new Mk7 Golf and Audi A3. The MQB gubbins will sit at the heart of the upcoming third-gen Audi TT, which will boast up to 381bhp in its hottest guises. The current TT RS Plus flagship is good for 355bhp from its turbo five-pot.
Where would the Audi ‘Q-coupe’ sit in Audi’s model range?
With Audi's mooted mid-engined sports car killed off, the marque has plenty of room within its range to slot in a hot Quattro crossover between RS-badged TTs and the entry-level R8 supercar. However, Porsche are still pursuing the project, as CAR reported in our June 2012 issue. A sub-Boxster '551' roadster is set for launch in 2017, despite Audi and Volkswagen dropping their proposals for similar models: the R5 and Bluesport.

Audi has reportedly decided not to build a production version of the Quattro concept. Car Magazine says the company has determined there isn't enough demand to support the proposed sports car. Instead, they want to offer a Range Rover Evoque competitor which could be called the Q-Coupe.
Little is known about the model, but Car says it will have sporty styling and a rakish roofline. It could be based on the Q2 and feature a turbocharged five-cylinder engine which would be connected to a seven-speed S-tronic transmission and a quattro all-wheel drive system.
The 30th anniversary of the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro is right around the corner and a new report is indicating the company will celebrate the occasion by introducing a successor at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Autozeitung says the model will be sportier than the 2011 Quattro concept and have a "much sharper" shape than the original study.
The car is also expected to incorporate a number of lightweight components including carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), aluminum and magnesium. This could enable the model to tip the scales at just 1300 kg (2866 lbs).
While the Quattro concept used a turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that developed 408 HP (300 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque, the new model is rumored to have a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces up to 650 HP (478 kW). This could enable the car to rocket from 0-100 km/h in as little as 3.4 seconds.
We can also expect carbon-ceramic brakes, a sport quattro rear differential and a sport-tuned suspension with adaptive dampers.
If everything pans out, the car could be built by quattro GmbH and cost roughly €115,000 ($153,240 / £97,930).

What we have here are the first official pictures of the Audi Sport Quattro Concept that will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The bad news is that, in my opinion, it looked a lot better on those sketches revealed some time ago. We will have to wait for some more information, but for now enjoy these four images.

Audi didn't wait that long to fully reveal this concept. In short, it is made out of ultra-high-strength steel, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer and cast aluminum, yet weighs 1,850 kilograms (4,078.55 lb). That is a lot, even if you consider the batteries.
The plug-in hybrid consists of a four-liter, twin-turbo V8 with a cylinder on demand (COD) system and a start-stop system that generates 560PS (412 kW or 553bhp) and 700Nm (516lb/ft) of torque, and an electric motor which is connected to the petrol engine that develops 150PS (110kW or 148bhp) and 400 Nm (295lb/ft).
This electric motor is powered by a 14.1kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion batter that gives the car a electric range of 50km (31 miles). The total output sits at 700PS (515 kW or 691bhp) and 800Nm (590lb/ft). This is more than enough to accelerate this car to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.7 seconds, while the top speed is 305km/h (190mph).
Incredibly, it has an average fuel consumption of 2.5l/100km (94.09 USA mpg or 112.99 UK mpg) , and emits just 59 grams per kilometer (94.95 g/mile) of CO2.
