BMW Presents New X5 M50d Power Diesel, Announces Individual Line and Accessories

New models are coming thick and fast for BMW, which had just released the F15 generation of the X5 M50d performance diesel model (we caught a glimpse of it back in March, if you remember), together with the Individual line and a range of fresh accessories for the new X5.Naturally, we'll start with the X5 M50d that drops the previous generation model's 3.0-liter tri-turbocharged inline-six diesel with 375hp (380PS) and a monstrous peak torque of 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) into the bigger but lighter body of the F15 X5. The diesel unit’s power is transferred to the road through an 8-speed automatic transmission and the brand's xDrive all-wheel drive.

Even though the engine remains the same, the new X5 M50d reaches the 100km/h (62mph) mark 0.1 seconds faster than its predecessor at 5.3 seconds. Fuel economy is also improved by more than ten percent at 6.7l/100km (equal to 35.1 mpg US or 42.2 mpg UK) on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.
Special touches include a lowered and sported up chassis, customized electronic aids, better brakes, a bespoke aero package, 19-inch M light-alloys and a sports trimmed interior.
While the photos of the new X5 M50d were taken in Canada, BMW's press release does not mention anything about availability in North America.

Customers of the regular X5 can now approach BMW for its Individual program that encompasses unique colors such as Ruby Black metallic and Pyrite Brown metallic, a different group of wheels, and special treatments, colors and materials for the interior. The BMW Individual range will be available for the new X5 from December 2013.
Finally, the Bavarian carmaker has released a number of new accessories for the latest X5, ranging from all-weather floor mats to transport bags and thermally insulated cup-holders.
                      M50d:

BMW X5 xDrive30d diesel first drive Review | Autocar

                        What is it?

The third generation of the BMW X5. Rather than presenting too many changes, the success of the previous models is why the styling of this new X5 simply ‘refines and reinforces the X5’s look of presence and elegance’ says designer Olivier Heilmer.
And, technically, the X5 is more a substantial update than wholesale reinvention, says project leader Siegfried Muller. The platform is essentially the same, but the upgrades are significant and go to the core of the X5, its body-in-white being reworked for strength and lightness. The shell is now five per cent stiffer without piling on weight, and the car itself is significantly more refined.

                        What is it like?

Muller’s toughest mission was tackling criticisms of the outgoing model’s ride, refinement and aura of quality, without adding heft.
He's done well, with reductions to the bulkhead, glasshouse and wheel-well noise transmission improving refinement by a useful 2.5dB, while new seats have reduced vibration, and the subtly softened suspension smothers sharp bumps more effectively.
Steering feel changes noticeably, too, for being electrically rather than hydraulically assisted to save fuel, as does the drag coefficient which drops from 0.34 to 0.31.
More obvious, though, is the classier cabin. Its subtly curving decor, superior materials and adjustable mood lighting enhance an architecture that’s still familiar; and improved rear space, a bigger boot and the third-row option, now split 40:20:40, complete the upgrade.
BMW’s efficient dynamics mission sees the xDrive30d motor gaining 13bhp and 15lb ft of torque while sprinting to 62mph 0.7sec faster despite streaming 33 fewer grams of CO2.
You’ll also enjoy this oil-burner’s much-improved manners, its clatter and growl now buried in background hum. Lots of low-rev urge and the eight-speed auto’s excellent anticipatory skills make for authoritatively brisk and effortless performance that, at lower speeds, shades the petrol xDrive50i.
So the essence of the 1999 X5’s mini-revolution is preserved intact, and this latest edition is pleasingly nimble and precise when the going gets twisty. The keen will enjoy such roads in sport setting, which enlivens the drivetrain, girds the dampers and weights the occasionally uncertain steering to produce a well-resolved driving experience.
And the ride? It swallows most small bumps whole, as promised, although the odd clatter across ridges and potholes in sport suggests that it’s the comfort damping mode you’ll mostly want on Britain’s roads. Given how well the rest of the system performs,it’s unfortunate that in Sport mode setting the steering turns over-light - and you can’t mix and match the steering, drivetrain and suspension settings.

                        Should I buy one?

The sports steering is, however, is one of the few flaws in this plush, practical and decently powerful set of family wheels. The X5 formula is unchanged and, steering apart, its mix of sporting edge and refined, big cabin comfort remains a compelling draw. Buyers will undoubtedly find this to be a very comfortable, very capable, off-road cruiser.

A dias de se iniciar a venda da nova geração do X5, eis que surge a lista das novas motorizações (25d só em dezembro).

                                    sDrive25d: 2.0d 218cv
                                    xDrive25d: 2.0d 218cv
                                    xDrive35i: 3.0T 306cv
                                    xDrive40d: 3.0d 313cv

                                    Nota de Imprensa:
The new BMW X5: a fresh dimension in driving pleasure and efficiency.
Hot on the heels of its market launch, the addition of another three engines and four new model variants to the new BMW X5 line-up is set to extend the Sports Activity Vehicle’s efficiency lead over its rivals.
The third-generation X5 will be available for the first time from December 2013 with a BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine and rear-wheel drive.
The engine powering the new BMW X5 xDrive25d and BMW X5 sDrive25d uses two turbochargers and common rail direct injection to produce maximum output of 160 kW/218 hp and links up as standard with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The hallmark driving pleasure, eye-catching design, luxurious ambience and outstanding variability of the SAV can therefore be enjoyed at the same time as impressively low fuel consumption and emissions. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle stands at 5.6 – 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres (50.4 – 49.6 mpg imp) for the BMW X5 sDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 149 – 151 g/km) and 5.8 – 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres (48.7 –47.9 mpg imp) for the BMW X5 xDrive25d (CO2 emissions: 154 – 156 g/km,
figures depending on the tyre format selected).

Also new to the line-up are the BMW X5 xDrive35i with its 225 kW/306 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and the BMW X5 xDrive40d, whose straight-six diesel unit develops 230 kW/313 hp. The new additions take their places alongside the existing BMW X5 xDrive30d, whose six-cylinder in-line diesel engine produces 190 kW/258 hp, the V8 petrol BMW X5 xDrive50i (330 kW/450 hp) and a BMW M Performance Automobile – the BMW X5 M50d (280 kW/381 hp).
