Geralmente usa-se "to take a trip" e não "to make a trip". A última não está errada mas literariamente não fica muito bem.

Quando referes o camião alugado deves fazer concordar o tempo verbal passando de "rent truck" para "rented truck".

A segunda frase não tem nada de errado mas parece muito desconectada da anterior.

Let´s é uma contracção da expressão "let us", que é a correcta no caso em concreto.
