The protection to child occupants was low in the dynamic tests due to the decision of the manufacturer to place both dummies forward facing, not following global best practices that the same car maker strictly followed for other recent models with good outcomes and even when the Child Restraint Systems (CRS) recommended and used in the test allow them to be installed rearward facing.

Subaru Crosstrek
https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/subaru/crosstrek/52565

subaru-crosstrek-2024-1058_fw1.jpg

The passenger compartment of the Crosstrek remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good or adequate protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Subaru demonstrated that a similar level of protection would be provided to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes and those sitting in different positions. Protection was good for all critical body areas of the passenger.

n the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the rear passenger’s chest was rated as marginal, based on dummy readings of compression. Otherwise, all critical parts of the body were well or adequately protected for both occupants. In both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body regions was good, and the Crosstrek scored maximum points in this part of the assessment. Control of excursion (the extent to which a body is thrown to the other side of the vehicle when it is was found to be marginal

The Crosstrek has a countermeasure to mitigate against occupant-to-occupant injuries in such impacts. The airbag performed well in Euro NCAP’s tests with dummy readings indicating good protection for both the driver and passenger. However, Subaru did not demonstrate that a similar level of protection would be provided if the car were impacted from the opposite side, and the score was reduced. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection.

Renault Symbioz Euroncap crash test

renault-symbioz-2024-1076_fw.jpg

Protection of the driver’s chest was rated as weak, based on dummy readings of compression, and that of the lower leg was marginal.

Control of excursion (the extent to which a body is thrown to the other side of the vehicle when it is hit from the far side) was found to be marginal. The Symbioz has no countermeasure to mitigate against occupant-to-occupant injuries in such impacts. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection.

ford-explorer-2024-1084_md1.jpg

The passenger compartment of the Explorer remained stable in the frontal offset test. Other than the lower leg of the driver, protection of which was adequate, all critical body areas of both the driver and passenger were well protected. Ford demonstrated that a similar level of protection would be provided to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes and those sitting in different positions.

n the full-width rigid barrier test, protection of the driver’s chest was rated as marginal, based on dummy readings of compression. 2024 Xpeng G6 Euroncap crash test
https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/xpeng/g6/52567

xpeng-g6-2024-1086_md1.jpg

The passenger compartment of the G6 remained stable in the frontal offset test. Protection was good or adequate for all critical body areas of the driver and all good for the passenger. XPENG demonstrated that the same level of protection would be provided to the knees and femurs of occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions.

In the full-width rigid barrier test, protection was good or adequate for all critical body areas of the driver but protection of the rear passenger’s chest was rated as weak, based on dummy readings of compression. Control of excursion (the extent to which a body is thrown to the other side of the vehicle when it is hit from the far side) was found to be adequate. The G6 has a countermeasure to mitigate against occupant-to-occupant injuries in such impacts. In Euro NCAP’s test the passenger dummy’s head contacted the shoulder of the driver dummy. Injury parameters were not excessive but the car was penalised for the contact

Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection.

Testing has started in labs across Europe as Euro NCAP’s Truck Safe programme gets underway.

The first scheme of its type for the sector, the programme is designed to address the disproportionate number of truck fatalities across Europe where trucks represent only 3% of vehicles on Europe’s roads but are involved in almost 15% of all EU road fatalities.

The ratings will incentivise good safety performance, allow optimisation of operational safety and cost, and accelerate regulatory efforts to improve truck safety. The aim is to progress towards best practice safety, rather than just meeting minimum standards.

The first seven trucks to be tested are:
  • DAF XF
  • Iveco S-WAY
  • MAN TGX
  • Mercedes-Benz Trucks Actros
  • Renault Trucks T
  • Scania R-series
  • Volvo FH
Euro NCAP’s Truck Safe rating scheme is a first for the sector and will enable all stakeholders in the freight industry to identify and assess the safety level of trucks. Not only will this deliver enhanced safety for drivers but also create financial and strategic opportunities for those operators that invest in the safest vehicles, making the scheme attractive to insurers, shippers, hauliers and truck makers. The safest vehicle will also prove to be the most profitable.

In creating a market for safety, Euro NCAP aims to encourage manufacturers and suppliers to innovate, further increasing the safety benefits of the scheme as the ratings evolve. Working together with road authorities and all actors in the heavy vehicle industry, we can reach Vision Zero.

— Dr. Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General Euro NCAP

The new tests will address real-world collisions and encourage manufacturers to fit collision avoidance technologies and improve driver vision.

The tests are being undertaken at six of Euro NCAP’s Test Facilities:
  • Asta Zero – Sweden
  • bast – Germany
  • CSI – Italy
  • DEKRA – Germany
  • HORIBA MIRA – UK
  • UTAC – France
The first Truck Safe ratings will be announced on 20 November 2024 at an exclusive media and industry event in collaboration with HORIBA MIRA in the UK.
