MyKey, Not Yours: Ford Lets Parents Block Radio Content, Set Speed at 65mph

  • An enhanced MyKey system is coming to the Explorer and Taurus in 2011.
  • Parents will be able to set maximum speed as low as 65 mph.
  • Owners will also be able to block out explicit satellite radio stations.

DEARBORN, Michigan — Starting in 2011, an upgraded version of Ford's MyKey system will give parents a whole new level of authority over their teenage drivers. Available initially in the Explorer and Taurus, this programmable key system will let owners choose the maximum speed and maximum audio volume, while blocking certain satellite radio stations.

MyKey-equipped Fords already give parents the option of limiting vehicle speed to 80 mph, but based on consumer feedback, the upgraded system will give Explorer and Taurus owners the ability to set top speed at 80, 75, 70 or even a mere 65 mph. Ford's research suggests that 85 percent of parents favor clamping down on lead-foot teens.

Another 60 percent of parents are said to approve of the ability to block some radio programming, though MyKey will act only on Sirius channels that the satellite radio provider has labeled "explicit."

In addition to limiting volume, owners can elect to mute the radio until front-seat occupants have their seatbelts on.

Deixo aqui 2 ou 3 fotos do meu ford, comprada nova em 2002, e que actualmente tem 136 mil kms, sem nada de grave a apontar.

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

O meu avô gastou 210 contos na sua compra, na altura, e eu, felizmente, ainda andei nele apesar de ter apenas 19 anos. Infelizmente, nunca o conduzi... nem o irei fazer. Sou um ignorante na matéria mas, penso que foi dada "baixa" do carro e que agora pouco há a fazer... a não ser sucata. É daqueles carros em que há um gosto incondicional. Velhote, a gasóleo, talvez um pouco rudimentar... pouco importa.

Se calhar, a única razão porque ele ainda está cá sou eu... ainda bem mais jovem, sempre lhe disse que gostava do carro e o meu avô acabou por mantê-lo por perto. Está mal tratado mas enfim...

Nada me faria mais feliz do que conseguir ficar com ele e, quem sabe, recuperá-lo... mas já não penso nisso. Não tenho possiblidades económicas e tenho de ser realista.

Ford Australia is preparing a hi-performance version of the Falcon GT with help of FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles), probably dubbed GT-H. Just like the Falcon GT, also a FPV product, the Falcon GT-H will be using a modified version of the 5.0 litre Coyote V8 known from the American Ford Mustang.

With help from a supercharger and twin inter-coolers the output is expected to be between 350 and 375 kW where the supercharged GT without the inter-cooler delivers 335 kW. As seen in the photos, the fog lights have been removed to give space for the big inter-coolers. Instead we might see a set of LED driving lights.

The Falcon GT-H might be revealed at the Melbourne International Motor Show later this year.

Ford to Unveil a "Groundbreaking New Vehicle" Along with European Premieres at Geneva

As we're nearing closer to the 2011 Geneva Salon, automakers are providing us with more details about their plans. Today, Ford announced that it will display a number of new production and concept cars including what the company simply described as a "groundbreaking new vehicle" without getting into any specifics.

“Ford of Europe Chairman and CEO Stephen T. Odell will unveil a groundbreaking new vehicle during a Ford news conference at 14:30 on March 1 at the Ford stand,” the company said in a statement.

What Ford did reveal is that it plans to showcase an all-new version of the 2011 Ranger pickup-truck called Wildtrak, the Vertrek SUV concept that hints at the next-generation Kuga, the Fiesta RS WRC, the C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid that will be joined by a C-MAX HEV when they both go on sale in Europe in 2013, and a conceptual all-electric version of the Transit Connect.

Furthermore, the company will display its latest powertrain enhancements including a new 114g/km CO2 Mondeo ECOnetic that combines 115HP 1.6-liter turbo diesel with start-stop technology, as well as the new Ka Metal created through Ford’s Individual programme.

“Today Ford has its strongest product line-up ever and we’ve got an aggressive plan to keep our vehicle portfolio the freshest in the industry," said Odell. “We have at least 20 new models and derivatives coming across our entire European range – from small cars to commercial vehicles – and at Geneva we will be introducing some of these.
