Richard Burns Foundation launches
The Richard Burns Foundation, established in the memory of the 2001 World Rally Champion who died of cancer in 2005, will be launched this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Foundation has been set up to provide inspiration and support to people whose lives have been affected by serious illness.
Burns' long-time friend and co-driver Robert Reid, is the Foundation's Chief Executive; "After being diagnosed with a brain tumour, Richard fought his illness with great dignity and without complaint. This inspired us to launch the Richard Burns Foundation, dedicated to supporting people battling any form of illness or injury. It's not just about medical care but inspiring people to extract the maximum out of life when faced with adversity."
The Foundation's first project will be to support the Youth Cancer Trust, a charity providing holidays to young adults with cancer.
The Foundation will have a stand at the Festival of Speed, where it will be displaying cars from Burns' remarkable career, including his first, a Talbot Sunbeam. The Foundation will raise money through collections, a raffle, merchandise sales and passenger rides with a host of WRC stars, including Marcus Gronholm, Petter Solberg, Colin McRae and Markko Martin.
The RBF also incorporates the Michael Park Fund, after the co-driver tragically killed in an accident in 2005. The Fund's objectives are to focus on motorsport safety issues.
Reid, and the RBF Chairman David Lapworth, Motorsport Director at Prodrive and an integral part of Burns success over the years, will be at Goodwood encouraging people to provide support. Reid said; "I know that they [Burns and Park] both would be extremely proud to see their names being put to such good causes."

The World Rally Championship looks set to run a control tyre from the start of the 2008 season, according to this week's Autosport.
Talk of a control tyre in the WRC has died down in recent months, but as outlined in Autosport last week, this is one of the avenues Pirelli was seeking to maintain its presence in the sport.
Nobody from Pirelli's only manufacturer competition in the WRC, BF Goodrich, was prepared to comment on the situation.
Subaru's Paul Howarth said: "It's clear that the biggest difference, in terms of competitiveness, comes from the tyres at the moment, so getting rid of that would make the competition closer.
"At the same time it would be cheaper and make the sport more spectacular. If we have one tyre that we all have to use it could be a hard compound- which offers less traction - and therefore makes the cars slide more."

Pirelli Motorsport director Paul Hembrey has confirmed that it will withdraw from the WRC at the end of 2006 if rival Michelin does not return to the sport, according to this week's Autosport.
Michelin's presence in the WRC was re-branded BF Goodrich at the start of the season, in a move which angered its Italian rivals.
"If they race in 2007 as BF Goodrich then we will push out and push for a control tyre the following season," said Hembrey. "If they compete as Michelin we will remain in the WRC."
Aime Chatard, BF Goodrich's rally manager, was surprised at Hembrey's statement, saying: "BF Goodrich has a three-year commitment to the WRC. I would prefer it if Pirelli tell us this kind of thing rather than telling the press."
Subaru is the only top team which would be affected by a Pirelli withdrawal.

A Suzuki revelou a primeira foto do seu WRC em testes, quando estamos a cerca de 1 ano da estreia do mesmo nos ralis mundiais.
Sem adiantar muitos pormenores, a marca japonesa apresentou há dias uma foto do Suzuki SX4 WRC em teste numa pista próxima das instalações da marca no Japão.
A Suzuki planeava ingressar no Mundial de Ralis 2007/08, no entanto após o ultimo Conselho Mundial da FIA isso passa a ser impossível, porque o formato de calendário de inverno não avançou. Resta saber se existe alteração de planos da marca nipónica, algo em relação ao qual nada foi adiantado.
A Suzuki será o quarto construtor a juntar-se a médio prazo ao mundial de ralis, ao lado da Ford, Subaru e Citroen. Depois dos bem sucedidos projectos no mundial de Junior com o Swift e especialmente com o Ignis, a marca dá o passo para o escalão maior.

S. Loeb ganhou mesmo a ediçao 2006 do Rali da Alemanha, como revisto, com algum avontade, tendo o 3º dia ja em ritmo de "passeio", assim como D. Sordo, num excelente 2º lugar, tendo sido ganha a aposta em sordo para pontuar para a Kronos no mundial.
Agora na Finlandia, vai ganhar o Gronholm eheh

][}][}][}]apesar de tudo no WRC há um bom ambiente entre os pilotos e até acho que quase todos eles acabam bem dispostos. Pelo menos do que vejo dos resumos da Eurosport nao chovem acusaçoes contra este ou aquele como noutras disciplinas do desporto automovel. E eles sao entrevistados 2 segundos depois de tirar o capacete e ainda com a adrenalina no máximo, nao seria de estranhar que dissessem umas parvoices nessas condiçoes mas o mais normal até é admitirem erros próprios.
