          B5-TPH #65288;concept car#65289;

The B5-TPH concept car was designed around the concept theme of a car for long-weekend gataways get aways for couples. The vehicle develops the theme of crossover elements in a future car –a crossover between a gasoline engine and electric motor, and between a sport wagon and sport utility vehicle (SUV). Incorporating Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All Wheel Drive (AWD), the concept car provides an efficiency and comfort glimpse of a future sport specialty car that further enriches the efficiency and comfort.

          Major features of the B5-TPH

The Turbo Parallel Hybrid (TPH) power train, a new AWD hybrid system, has been applied to 2.0liter Horizontally-Opposed turbo charged engine in the B5-TPH
By combining the electric motor and the Miller cycle boxer turbo engine (2.0L), the engine has achieved fuel economy improvements and reduced CO2 emissions. This superb, all-range performance is enabled by the motor assist feature, a motor that is designed to boost engine torque at low revolutions.
The vehicle promises versatile handling and maneuverability both on and rough road with its ground clearance of 200 mm and large-diameter tires.
The designs express the pleasure of driving, and of being driven as a passenger. Blending beautiful lines and the characteristics of the sport wagon, personal coupe and SUV, the car accentuates the crossover of its designs and function.

          IVX-II (Technology exhibit)

“IVX-II (Intelligent vehicle X, X symbolizes the infinite) the next generation of intelligent vehicle which ensuring driving pleasure, comfort, and advanced safety. Enhancing pleasurable driving, while its integrated preventive safety functions help the car automatically avoid dangers and restores it to a safe driving position.

          Major features of IVX-II

Improved its frontal recognition sensors (Active Driving Assist system), that include a pair of stereo cameras, as well as a milliwave radar unit. The new stereo camera device can not only detect multiple objects, road traffic lines, and conditions, but it also calculates the distance between the car and an object as well as the relative speed with which another car is approaching.
Adopted the next-generation high performance controller with capability realized by Subaru’s updated algorithms. the former ensures optimal driving position based on patterns of a driver’s maneuvering. For the vehicle control, By-wire technology, which is the next-generation chassis control technology is used.
In addition to these fast and reliable systems, the IVX-II features Symmetrical AWD. Its low center of gravity ensures excellent vehicle stability and the ability to retain driving control, which allows a driver to handle the vehicle at his will. High-tech devices co-exist with the driver’s enjoyment of vehicle handling, and they interfere with a driver’s control only in necessary instances.

B9 Tribeca (Display model / US model)

The B9 Tribeca was developed on the concept of a progressive sports utility vehicle (SUV) that represents the next generation of crossover vehicles. The first-ever Subaru crossover utility vehicle with available seating for seven passengers, the B9 Tribeca features Horizontally-Opposed H6 boxer engine that delivers agile and stable control yet while ensuring superb maneuverability as a SUV. The vehicle reveals its roominess in flexible seating arrangements in three rows for seven passengers. Its sporty and dynamic exterior design contrasts with a sophisticated interior design that accentuates stylish comfort and safety.

          Blitzen 2006 Model: Touring Wagon

The Touring Wagon version was developed on the Legacy sedan Blitzen 2005 Model introduced in December 2004 and has since enjoyed accolades. Based upon Legacy Touring Wagon 2.0 GT spec. B., the vehicle features newly designed interior, front grille, rear bumper, and roof spoiler, and is fitted with 18-inch wheels.
The development of the vehicle centered on the concept of psychological restoration, and the Edge is a model that can play a significant role in altering one’s mind set. A true edge in design and technology is proposed in this new crossover vehicle. Exterior designs that are original to the Edge include its front grille, front bumper under guard, side sill garnish, roof rail, all of which partly use a high-luster finish and, as well as the new aluminum wheels.

          R1e (Display model)

Based on the 2-seater R1 mini car, the R1e has been developed as an electric vehicle (EV). Using the high performance lithium ion battery pack, the EV not only excels in power output but also boasts fast charging and easy maintenance, both considered problematic aspects of existing EVs.
[The R1e is available at “Clean energy vehicle test ride” outside the Motor Show premises, set up by the Motor Show organizer.]

          Subaru Impreza WRC 2006 prototype

The prototype is based on the new Impreza, which was introduced in June 2005 in Japan. The SUBARU IMPREZA WRC 2006 model is scheduled to debut at the FIA WRC Rally Automobile Monte Carlo in 2006.

          Subaru Rally Challenge

Based on its flight simulator technologies, the Aerospace Company of the Fuji Heavy Industries and Subaru have jointly developed a fully automatic driving simulator that is set in the Impreza rally car body. The new driving simulator has a 6-axis motion unit that can support 1 ton of weight on its base, and it allows visitors to choose rally routes and experience Subaru Impreza rally driving.

Subaru B9 Tribeca earns 5-star safety rating

Subaru B9 Tribeca receives the highest possible safety rating from NHTSA for frontal and side-impact crash tests for both driver and passenger seating positions.

Subaru of America, Inc. today announced that the 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca, the all-new progressive SUV from Subaru, earned the highest rating in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash tests. The 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca received 5-stars in the frontal and side-impact crash tests for both the driver and passenger seating positions.

“The 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca is already a standout in the mid-size SUV category with its dynamic styling, engaging driveability and real-world versatility,” said Fred Adcock, executive vice president, Subaru of America, Inc. “Adding 5-star safety ratings to its list of accolades fully demonstrates our rigorous commitment to safety.”

NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) provides consumers with vehicle safety information, primarily front and side crash test results, and more recently rollover resistance ratings, to aid consumers in their vehicle purchase decisions. The test results are relayed to consumers via an easily recognizable star rating system – from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 being the highest. The NCAP crash tests are conducted at speeds higher than required by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for both side impacts, at 38.5 miles per hour, and full frontal barrier impacts, at 35 miles per hour. The tests are done to compare vehicles for the NHTSA Consumer Information Program and the results can be found at http://www.safercar.gov.

Subaru’s extensively revised ’06 Impreza – with massive power upgrades and a striking facelift – will start from just £16,200 on-the-road.

This is for the entry-level Impreza 2.0R 5-door which boasts a new 160 PS 2.0 litre four-cam ‘boxer’ engine. This gives a 130 mph top speed and 8.5 second 0-60 mph time yet returns 40.4 mpg on the Extra Urban Cycle.

Meanwhile, the most popular model – the Impreza WRX saloon – now has a flexible new 2.5 litre turbo engine and a raft of other improvements yet will cost £20,900 OTR – a modest £600 increase.

Top of the range is the £26,995 Impreza 2.5 WRX STI – now boasting a 281 PS engine for a 158.4 mph top speed and 0-60 mph time of 5.0 seconds.

All ’06 Imprezas feature new bumpers, ‘spread-wings’ mesh grille and ‘hawk-eye’ headlamps matched by new 3-D cylindrical rear lamps.

The gearboxes are slicker-shifting, while the STI has a thoroughly revised symmetrical all-wheel drive system which gives even more agile handling.

Equipment levels are high throughout, with all models featuring air-conditioning and a single disc CD player. Most Imprezas also have driver, passenger and side airbags and new HID headlamps with pop-up washers.

Ou seja, STI a partir dos 39.500€ no Reino-Unido.. Nada mau se não soubermos que esse é o preço do WRX cá!! [8][8][8]

Tokyo - Fuji Heavy Industries, Ltd. (FHI), a global manufacturer of transportation and aerospace-related products and the maker of Subaru automobiles, today released its plan of their alliance changes.

FHI and General Motors Corp. (GM) agreed to dissolve its strategic alliance and capital relationship and GM, the top shareholder of FHI, will sell all the FHI stocks they hold.

In December 1999, FHI and GM agreed upon a capital and strategic alliance. Since GM purchased about 20% of FHI shares and became the top shareholder of FHI, both companies worked together for various synergic effects. The joint efforts over the past 6 years period resulted in achievements such as global procurement, OEM business, technology exchanges, etc. However, the two companies concluded that mutually beneficial large joint projects are unlikely in future, and came to agree to terminate their strategic and affiliated company relationship.

Out of the 157 million FHI stocks that GM holds, which accounts for about 20% of the FHI outstanding common stocks, GM will sell 68 million stocks, 8.7%, to Toyota Motor Corp. (TMC). GM will sell the remaining 89 million stocks, 11.4%, in the market. At the same time, FHI plans to purchase 90 million stocks as Treasury Stock.

FHI and GM will discuss on the future direction of ongoing cooperative projects. As for the joint development project of a crossover vehicle between FHI and Saab, which was announced last year, FHI and GM have basically agreed to stop the development. FHI has decided to record extraordinary loss of 5,000 million yen, which is a part of the development cost, in this fiscal year.

At the same time, FHI has revised its annual profit estimate announced on May 12, after reviewing the recent circumstances such as weaker yen, sales momentum, etc. The revised figures are; Operating profit at 36,000 million yen (up 5,000 million from the previous estimate), Ordinary profit at 29,000 million yen (up 2,000 million yen), and Net profit at 12,000 million yen (down 3,000 million).

Upon TMC obtaining FHI’s shares, TMC and FHI agreed to start studying business collaboration. The two companies plan to set up a joint steering committee to study possible joint projects to seek synergic effects in the areas of research & development and production, and to supplement each other’s technological development.

FHI is going ahead with the 5-year business plan ending March 2007, the FDR-1 plan, and the situation change this time will not affect FHI’s relentlessness to achieve the target.

                                  ************************

Tokyo - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) and FUJI HEAVY INDUSTRIES LTD. (FHI) announced today that they have signed a memorandum of understanding stating they will start studying the synergic effects of business collaboration. In the collaboration, the two companies seek to mutually utilize their management resources in the fields of research & development and production, and to supplement each other’s technological development. The two companies plan to set up a joint steering committee and to aim for reaching an agreement on concrete collaboration programs as soon as possible.

TMC and FHI initiated business ties in 2003, when they announced that FHI would feature TMC’s “G-BOOK” network information service as “Subaru G-BOOK” in Subaru-brand vehicles for the Japanese market. TMC and FHI have come to view that, while they respect each other’s independency in management, each side could prosper further by strengthening their business relationship, as global competition intensifies.

In order to develop its relationship with FHI, TMC decided today to purchase FHI shares as follows:

                                  Contents of share purchase:

                                  - Party TMC will purchase from: General Motors Canadian subsidiary
                                  - Number of shares TMC will purchase: 8,000,000 shares
                                  - Ratio of shares to be owned by TMC: 8.7% of FHI’s issued shares
                                  - Planned shares settlement day: October 12, 2005

                                  **********************************

Cada acção da Subaru andará por volta dos 3,8€

Subaru Australia is adding a new turbocharged Liberty GT to its performance stable with the introduction of a variant tuned by Subaru Tecnica International (STI).

Unveiled at the Sydney International Motor Show, the Liberty GT Tuned by STI features several engineering and cosmetic upgrades.

Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia said: “The Liberty GT Tuned by STI is the result of customer feedback, our strong relationship with Fuji Heavy Industries and Subaru Tecnica International in Japan, and the commitment and skill of our Australian engineering and development team based in Sydney and at Subaru Interactive @ Docklands in Melbourne.

“The team from FHI spent time in Australia working with the Subaru Australia engineering and motor sport team to produce a variant developed especially for the Australian market, and I believe we have come up with a very exciting and appealing package.”

Under the bonnet an upgraded Electronic Control Unit (ECU) increases peak power from 190 Kilowatts to 200kW and torque from 330 Newtonmetres to 343Nm in the manual and 180kW to 190kW and torque from 310Nm to 343Nm in the automatic. This represents more than five per cent increase in power across both transmissions.

Engine performance is improved with acceleration and throttle response becoming more linear, allowing superior acceleration at lower engine speed.

Two STI twin tip sports mufflers complete the engine upgrade components, enhancing exhaust flow and providing better turbo response and a sportier sound.

Suspension upgrades include STI lowered springs that drop the car by 15mm, sports tuned Bilstein front and rear struts, and a titanium look front strut brace increases the vehicle’s rigidity, enhancing handling and steering response.

An STI rear lateral link set reduces suspension friction, improving ride, roadholding and steering precision.

Customised body styling complements the vehicle’s performance capabilities and includes a front lip and rear boot spoiler* enhancing vehicle aerodynamics by increasing down force and improving the front lift coefficient (CLf) by approximately 80%**.

Unique 18-inch wheels feature a wider, 7.5-inch, rim and Pirelli P Zero Rosso (215/45R18) tyres maximise grip, especially in wet conditions.

Subaru Motorsport Manager Greg Foletta says the decision to use Pirelli Tyres comes from Subaru and Pirelli’s strong rally heritage.

“Subaru and Pirelli have developed a strong relationship through rallying and to be able to work with Pirelli on this occasion was fantastic.

“Pirelli P Zero Rossos are high performance tyres, offering outstanding wet and dry grip as well as enhancing ride comfort, making them perfectly suited for the GT Tuned by STI.”

Inside, an all-black interior features leather seats with STI embroidered alacantara inserts, complete with trademark red stitching, offering increased comfort levels.

Titanium finish trim on the dash, centre console, door trim and an aluminium pedal set give the vehicle a modern, sporty edge.

STI-red luminescent dash cluster lights complete the interior upgrades.

“Our goal was to refine, not redesign with the key focus being on enhancing all driving aspects. Subaru customers who purchase this variant are interested in the next level when it comes to performance, and a unique driving experience.

“Both of these elements were top of mind when our engineers designed this special edition,” said Mr Senior.

The Liberty GT Tuned by STI is available as a sedan and wagon in both automatic and manual transmissions.

The manual variant features a quick shift gear lever resulting in a quicker, more responsive and sporty gear change.

Available in Black, Premium Silver and Urban Grey the Liberty GT Tuned by STI will offer two alloy rim colours. Black vehicles will feature charcoal wheels while Premium Silver and Urban Grey vehicles will feature brushed silver wheels.

With a limited production of 300 vehicles, the Liberty GT Tuned by STI will be on sale from January 2006.

Pricing for the Liberty GT Tuned by STI starts at $59,490 for the five-speed manual sedan.

                                                        Subaru Impreza WRX
Broader torque-spread gives the WRX added wallop

We're high up on the Col de Vence, one of the stages of the Monte Carlo Rally. The first snow of the season fell on the peaks of the Alpes Maritimes two days ago, and on this clear, bright, autumn morning, two Imprezas are engrossed in a game of tag through the stone arches and along the switchbacks, their drivers playing at being Solberg. Strange thing is, the bewinged STi that's leading the way can't shake off the red WRX behind it...

If you'd just stepped out of the hardcore, rally-rep STi you'd swear that nothing short of the real thing would stick with it, especially on roads as perfectly suited to it as these. Yet here is its apparently lesser sibling, practically nailed to its exhaust.

Like the STi, the WRX now has the 2.5-litre flat-four from the '06 Forester, endowing it with 227bhp at 5600rpm and peak torque of 236lb ft at 3600rpm, 400rpm lower than before. They're increases of just 4bhp and 15lb ft, but with the bigger-capacity engine the torque is now distributed across much more of the rev-range. With the addition of AVCS, Subaru's form of variable valve timing, and a lower final drive ratio, the result is more instant response from a broader section of each gear. So although the 0-60mph time of 5.4sec and top speed of 143mph are pretty much identical to the previous car's, there's less need for cog-swapping in the new WRX. Fuel consumption remains unchanged however, which explains why our little jaunt across the Col saw the gauge plummeting as though it had been dropped off the edge at one of the hairpins. The only other real downer is perhaps a slightly duller note from the new engine. Still definitely boxer, but without some of the burble.

Although you'll need to change gear less, the action of the five-speed 'box has also been usefully slickened. The transmission's default 50/50 torque split and viscously coupled centre differential remain unchanged, but the WRX now has a limited slip diff in the rear axle as well. The electronic brain controlling the distribution of all the power is, as usual, more technically and unfathomably advanced than ever, but on the open sweeping roads of the test route the WRX would settle into deliciously easy slides over the patchily damp roads. A tiny lift gets the nose turned in and then it's full on the throttle to let the car drift neutrally from apex to exit. You don't need to understand electronics to know that it's confidence inspiring in the extreme and huge fun.

The Impreza's new grille is described as being winged, with the central nostril representing the cross section of an aeroplane's fuselage, while the lights are known internally as hawk-eyes. Despite this, it actually looks rather good, restoring a bit of purpose and distinction to the face. Also welcome are the high-intensity headlamps at the front, along with smaller, more powerful projector-type fog-lamps, but the 3D-effect light clusters at the rear look a touch aftermarket.

Inside, the Impreza receives the improved interior from the Forester and Legacy, which means it's not exactly remarkable for its design and quality, but is a whole lot better than the bargain-basement Subaru interiors of old. For an additional £1500 you can have an SL pack, which includes a full leather interior, heated front seats and a sunroof.

On the subject of style, it seems to me that there's an increasingly strong case to be made for the five-door WRX. When even the base, normally aspirated, 2-litre Impreza saloon plays up to its rally connections by wearing a not inconsiderable wing, you have to wonder if Subaru has taken the sporting pretensions a little too far. By comparison, the five-door WRX 'wagon' hardly lacks a sense of purpose and seemingly suffers little or nothing in terms of performance or handling, yet it doesn't shout 'I want to be a rally driver'; all the better for playing Peter Parker to the STi's Spiderman.

Back in the mountains, the WRX's improved torque spread means that it gets into its stride from about 3000rpm. With thrust being available so early and grip so prodigious, the WRX is able to spit itself out onto the straights with enough vigour to stay in touch with the 50bhp-more-powerful STi. It helps that through the blind corners the leading STi can't commit fully and make its power advantage count for more, but it's impressive nevertheless.

Ultimately the STi gives the bigger visceral tingle. But you'd pick the £6K cheaper WRX precisely because you don't want every trip to the shops to feel like a special stage. And yet when you did find yourself on the Col de Vence you'd still be able to play at being Petter - and not be left lagging behind.

                                                        Subaru Impreza WRX STi
Type-UK gets new look and some extra enhancements

Well, which one would you buy? Type-UK or Type-D? The latter is a new one in the Subaru Impreza WRX STi lexicon, and it stands for Discreet. Relatively discreet, anyway. It has silver wheels instead of gold ones and a smaller rear spoiler instead of the big double-decker affair. The small spoiler looks like something from an accessory shop, the sort of thing people stick on ten-year-old Mondeos. Discreet? Dubious, more like. Or Daft.

An STi needs to look either like an STi or a coherent alternative. The latter doesn't exist, Discretion or not. So we'll go with the proper article, now with an extra vane spoiler above the rear window which directs airflow more productively towards the main edifice.

As we know, the latest Impreza has Subaru's new facial identity. To my eyes it sits oddly on the familiarly bumpy and vent-rich STi form, but improved airflow around the nose has allowed the bonnet scoop to become less protuberant while still satisfying the intercooler's appetite.

As with the regular WRX, the flat-four engine is now of 2.5 litres, as it has been for a while in US-spec WRXs, and in STi form it makes 277bhp and 289lb ft of torque. This it sends through a mildly recalibrated transmission whose default front-rear torque-split is now 41/59 instead of the former 35/65. But this
doesn't mean more understeer, merely better manners. That's because the front LSD is now a quicker-acting Torsen item and there's an extra yaw sensor.

Taken together, these changes let the STi hold a rearward torque bias for longer, reduce its torque-steer and sharpen its steering. The six-speed gearbox is revised, too, with a wider ratio spread made possible by the engine's extra torque.

Subaru says the suspension is as it was, itself revised a year ago with, among other things, a wider rear track, but that's not how it feels. Squirting the Scooby out of the launch hotel and up the wonderful Col de Vence reveals a car not quite as battering of the senses as before - it even has a decent ride - but even more devastating in its ability to chew up bends and spit them out.

Those heftier cylinders, plus a new electronic throttle, help mask the turbo lag: this is an STi that responds more crisply than ever before. It's a wallop of energy, most amusingly used as you power out of a bend and tip the tail into a little oversteer flourish. A new, emissions-friendly exhaust manifold with a different sequence of pipe-linkings has muted the Subaru burble, but it's still a uniquely deep sound that belies the engine's revvy nature. The gearshift is tighter and crisper than in other WRXs, too, with short movements and no crunching. More cross-gate spacing would be good, though: it's easy to miss your aim.

It's mighty fast, of course. But it's the way you can carry speed through corners, the way you aim, turn, get the power down and catapult out that's truly addictive. The STi might pogo through bumpy bends like a rally car as the grip limit approaches but it's always pulling in the right direction, feeding all back through the intimate steering, always planted, always forgiving. But then the STi always was like that. The difference is that now you're going faster and it reacts to your inputs more keenly and cleanly.

Maybe the Scooby cult is wearing thin now. Maybe this is a makeover of an ageing car. But what a character the STi still is. That was the best blast up the Col I've ever had.
