Just like the Porsche Carrera GT, the upcoming 918 Spyder will be offered only in left hand drive, according to a latest report. The same sources are indicating that the hybrid supercar will have a starting price of 768,026 euros or 839,426 euros when fitted with the Weissach package.
The Porsche 918 Spyder is expected to get a combustion engine in the form of a V8 4.6-liter with 580 hp (432 kW) and more than 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. This power unit will drive the rear wheels and will work together with an electric motor. There’s also a second electric motor which will power the front wheels. Those two electric motors have a combined output of 245 hp (183 kW), with 116 hp (86 kW) at the front and 129 hp (96 kW) at the back.
The hybrid supercar will feature a 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a 3.6 kW on-board charger, while a universal charger will take care of the external charging. We should expect a combined output of approximately 795 hp (593 kW) and 575 lb-ft (780 Nm) of torque that will be available between 1,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
The 918 Spyder will feature a 7-speed PDK gearbox and will come with Electric Porsche Traction Management, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, auto stop/start and a “Sailing” fuel-economy mode. At the front it will ride on 9.5Jx20 wheels with 265/35 ZR20 tires, while at the back it should feature 12.5Jx21 alloys wrapped around in 325/30 ZR21 tires.
The stopping power will be provided by the company’s carbon ceramic brakes that should measure 410mm at the front with 6-piston calipers, while the rear wheels will get 390mm with 4-piston calipers. Also in the package are LED DRLs and rearlights, as well as an electric parking brake.
With the aforementioned optional Weissach package, the Porsche 918 Spyder will weigh 35 kg (77 lbs) less than the standard version thanks to various weight-saving measures such as the use of more carbon fiber enhanced plastics, titanium and ceramic components, as well as an exterior foil instead of regular paint. In addition, the stock wheels are replaced by magnesium ones while the wiring necessary for the external quick charging station is removed. Other than that, the hi-fi system and the AC are removed, while the seats will get flame-resistant cloth rather than the standard leather.
The list of modifications doesn’t end here as the Weissach package also brings a carbon interior package, carbon fiber for the paddles, straps instead of door handles, different door interior panels without the pockets and armrests, no carpeting in the foot wells, no center console compartment, no glove compartment and no carpeting in the boot. With this optional package, the 918 Spyder will be able to do a lap of the Nürburgring (Nordschleife) two seconds quicker than the standard version.
The Porsche 918 Spyder without the package features AC, a quick charging system, leather upholstery, an 11-speaker 500w Burmester audio system, 8-inch TFT screen, while for extra 23,800 euros clients can opt for the Authentic leather with special structure made in Germany.
Those magnesium wheels cost an extra 29,750 euros, while the foil (reduces weight by 2.5 kg) is 11,900 euros. Get the liquid metal paint and you’ll have to pay an additional 47,600 euros, while the liquid metal + foil combo is a whopping 59,500 euros! If you are worried about damaging the front of the car there’s an optional lifting system available for 8,925 euros. The 20 kW external quick charging system adds 20,230 euros to the car’s price tag and it can reduce the charging time from two hours to 30 minutes.
Lastly, those who choose to pick up the car from Zuffenhausen will do this for free, but to pick it up from Leipzig it costs an additional 6,545 euros!
