Production Lexus LF-LC To Revive SC Badge, Offer Two Powertrain Options: Report

Although originally intended as a concept to preview future styling themes, rave reviews for Lexus’ LF-LC concept following its reveal at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show persuaded managers to put it into production. We’ve now learned that the production version of the LF-LC will revive Lexus’ SC badge last used in 2010, and that it will offer two powertrain options: a naturally aspirated V-8 and a V-6 paired with Lexus’ next-generation hybrid technology.

The information was revealed to Carsguide by a source at Lexus. The proposed V-8 for the new SC is said to be an uprated version of the 5.0-liter V-8 powering the 2015 RC F, with peak output said to be 475 horsepower. In the RC F, Lexus has only said that the engine will produce in excess of 450 hp.

The hybrid setup is said to combine a 3.5-liter V-6 with Lexus’ next-generation Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Described as a “multi-hybrid” system, it will deliver substantially more power than previous Lexus hybrid technology and in the new SC is said to offer as much as 500 hp. You may recall that the LF-LC concept was said to be powered by a new hybrid drivetrain rated at 500 hp as well.

Other technologies expected to appear on the new SC is a 10-speed automatic from Aisin AW; multi-material construction including components made from steel, aluminum and even some carbon fiber; and torque vectoring. Though not mentioned in the report, it’s possible that the chassis will be the same one being developed by Toyota (with help from BMW) for an FT-1-based Supra.

Lexus is said to be aiming to launch its new SC around 2017. Key rivals will be the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Maserati GranTurismo, meaning pricing will likely fall somewhere between $100,000 and $130,000.

Lexus LF-LC será lançado em 2016, segundo vice-presidente da Lexus Europa e a versão de produção irá ser fiel ao concept

Lexus’s LF-LC 2+2 coupé concept will make production in 2016 as a new flagship model for Toyota’s luxury arm.

Lexus Europe’s vice-president Alain Uyttenhoven revealed to Autocar on the launch of the new NX crossover that a production version of the LF-LC was due to make production as part of Lexus’s plan to launch a new model every year up to 2020.

The dramatic LF-LC was first seen at the Detroit motor show in 2012, and Uyttenhoven said that company boss Akio Toyoda “doesn’t want the production car to look any different from the concept”. Uyttenhoven said that the LF-LC concept was anything between 90 and 100 per cent representative of the production car, which he has seen.

Previous speculation has suggested that the production LF-LC would take the LC badge for production, and would be based on a shortened version of the LS’s underpinnings.

“The production LF-LC will not be huge volume [car] for Lexus, but it will bring huge emotion,” said Uyttenhoven. “Every year there will be a new model for Lexus, either a volume car like the NX or a model to boost brand image [like the LF-LC].”

With the NX planned to be introduced as 2014’s new car, next year will see the introduction of the RC coupé, including the range-topping 450bhp 5.0-litre V8-powered RC-F version.

The RC-F will be the first version of the RC to be sold in Europe, with an initial run of 500 units planned. Uyttenhoven revealed that one third of that allocation was destined for the UK.

Further variants of the RC are planned, including a staple RC300h hybrid version and a RC200t version that uses the new 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine found in the NX.

That new engine is also destined for the IS and GS, Uyttenhoven revealed.
The plan to introduce one new model a year is part of Lexus’s wider aspirations to double its European sales to 100,000 units by 2020. In the first six months of this year, it sold 24,586 cars in Europe.

          Lexus LF-LC poderá ter V8 Twin-Turbo com 600cv - Motor Trend

Word on the Tokyo street is that there’s a Lexus LF-LC Coupe mule running around Japan packing a 600-hp twin-turbo version of the upcoming RC F’s 5.0-liter V-8. That power rating may be on the conservative side. We heard back in March of 2013 that Lexus was overwhelmed by the positive response to the swoopy coupe and decided to go on and green-light it. Until now there has been little to no information on the striking concept, other than the fact that the production version will most likely be called SC. There still isn’t much, but our sources confirm the monstrous twin-turbo V-8 will be the SC F. There’s a potent hybrid LF-LC/SC H whose powertrain will probably be the fruits of the BMW joint project and make around 500 hp. There will be a third engine, a base naturally aspirated V-8, that will produce a bit less power than the hybrid (450 hp) but worse fuel economy.

While Lexus is working hard to preserve as much of the concept car as possible, the SC will surely share its platform with the new, fourth-generation LS. While the LS has traditionally been something of a rival to the Mercedes S-Class, people I spoke with at Lexus have been hinting that the new big Lexus will in fact target the sportier end of the segment -- think Jaguar XJ and Porsche Panamera. Further proof that Mercedes ought to go ahead and write, “Can’t Touch This” on their new S-Class. Regardless, the new LS will look to take on the S63 AMG by also using the 600-hp twin-turbo V-8 in what will be called the LS F. You can expect the LS 600hL to return (probably as the LS H), with the same Bavarian-flavored hybrid setup found in the SC H. The base LS will get the 5.0-liter V-8. The new LS will launch in 2016 as a 2017 model.

          You can
also expect to see some sort of GS F, which is needed as the GS already ships with either a V-6 or a hybrid system, neither of which makes enough power for the chassis. Expect the GS F to get the RC F’S naturally aspirated V-8 and get cranked up to right around 500 hp.Here’s the best saved for last.

In 2017 you can expect to see a super version of the RC F packing the 600-hp twin-turbo V-8. Think of it as an Infiniti Eau Rogue-fighter with a price tag to match -- about $120,000. However, since Johan de Nysschen has left Infiniti, it’s doubtful the
Eau Roguewill see the light of day. So think of the Super RC F as a C63 AMG Black Series-fighter. Seeing as how the Benz cost about $110,000 and “only” made 510 hp, $10K more for 600 hp (or more) makes sense. We’re hearing RC FS as the name, with “FS” becoming Lexus’s answer to AMG’s Black Series and (Audi) Quattro GmbH’s RS. It’s looking like things are about to get interesting at Lexus

Lexus patenteia LC500 e LC500H nos Estados Unidos, Canadá e Austrália

Lexus has just trademarked LC 500 & LC 500h in the USA, Canada, & Australia, giving us the first clear indication of what to expect from the upcoming production LF-LC coupe.
This is huge news on multiple levels — there had been talk that the production LF-LC could resurrect the SC nameplate, but it appears the new coupe will adopt letters from its concept.
Bigger than the name are the two engine designations — there is currently no model in the Lexus lineup with either a 500 or 500h badge.
It’s possible to guess at the LC 500, as the RC F’s 467 horsepower 5.0L V8 engine would fit in with the usual Lexus naming convention (350 = 3.5L engine, 460 = 4.6L engine).

As for the LC 500h, this will most certainly be a new engine altogether. Let’s use the existing models as a guide — the GS 450h is powered by a 3.5L V6 hybrid engine, and the LS 600h is powered by a 5.0L V8 hybrid. Essentially, the hybrid system adds one-litre to the badge designation.

In my mind, there are two ways to go with this:
                • Lexus has developed a new 4.0L V6 or V8 and paired it to the hybrid system.
                • The next-generation hybrid system generates the equivalent of a half-litre of displacement and the engine remains as a 3.5L V6 engine.

No matter the engines, these trademarks are a major step in the eventual production model LF-LC, and it looks like Lexus is pulling out all the stops.

For completion’s sake, the LC trademarks were registered November 24th in the USA (1, 2) & Canada (1, 2), and on November 25th in Australia (1, 2).

                                      Sim, fica acima do RC.

Em relação aos concorrentes, parece que sim. Já nas primeiras fotos espias tiradas pelo Matt Farah do The Smoking Tire, ele referiu que ia acompanhado por um 911 e Serie 6.
