Alfa Romeo Giulia 2015

Cassino takes first step towards production Alfa Romeo Giulia

The preparations for the production of the first new generation of Alfa Romeos (post-4C) have already commenced at several locations throughout Italy. The newspaper Corriere della Sera claims that FCA’s plant in Cassino hasn’t built any Fiat Bravos or Lancia Deltas in July, while production of the Giulietta would have been steadily transferred to the assembly lines where once the Croma rolled off (picture). This is said to have taken place in order to give way for the new assembly line for Alfa Romeo (Giulia), the first fruit of project ‘Giorgio’. This news is revealed the day after a new agreement was made with the trade unions and somewhat lines up with the rumors that not only Mirafiori, but also Cassino would benefit from the production of luxurious Italian cars meant for export. The first testing mules of the new D-segment Alfa are expected on the road by the end of this year.

From Brescia, too, we get the confirmation that Cassino will soon be of great value again. The firm Officine Meccaniche Rezzatesi or OMR in short (picture above) has signed a multimillion deal for production of high-tech components for the Fiat-plant in the Lazio region. The deal concerns components for the chassis, the unit body, the steering, the axes, the shells for transmissions, sump pans and cylinder heads. OMR can count on 60 to 70 million euros a year in assignments for at least the next decade. The company has therefore already decided it will invest 35 million euros and hire an extra 200 employees. The firm from Lombardy produces high-tech aluminum materials and has activities at 10 locations throughout Italy and another 6 in America, India and Brazil. OMR also works for the brands Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley, VW and Audi for VAG. Fiat and OMR have been partners for many years already, especially for Maserati and Ferrari.

New Alfa Romeo Giulia Rumored to Offer 500HP GTA Version

One of the most anticipated Alfa Romeos in years, the Giulia sedan, is said to offer a big surprise when it goes on sale in late 2015.

Italy's BMW 3-Series rival is expected to offer a high-performance GTA version right from the start of sales, with around 500 hp under its bonnet.

According to inside information obtained by Auto Express, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA will be powered by a Ferrari-built 3.0-liter biturbo V6 gasoline engine, a version of the unit used by the Maserati Ghibli. The exact output figure is not yet clear, but the report says it's expected to be between 480hp and 520hp.

The new Giulia will use a rear-wheel drive platform, with the GTA version expected to be lighter than the BMW M3, which tips the scales at 1,635 kg (3,604 lbs). That’s because the high-performance Alfa will feature high-strength steel and aluminum sections. As a result, says the report, the Giulia GTA "should" be faster than the M3, with the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration expected to be under 4 seconds.

The Giulia GTA may feature a limited-slip differential and a dual-clutch gearbox as standard. The magazine says that the range-topping Giulia is expected to cost approximately £50,000 (€62,410) in the UK, while regular models should start from £22,000 (€27,430). The Giulia range will feature four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with a high-performance 350hp six-cylinder diesel also believed to be under development.

Design-wise, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is expected to feature an arrowhead front grille, telephone-dial alloys, bonnet vents, a more aggressive aerodynamic kit and hidden rear handles.
