Is Miguel Oliveira already in Honda? It may be, but Wilco Zeelenberg's 'sexist comment' is a resounding fake
According to the latest rumors it will be Miguel Oliveira to replace Marc Marquez in Team Repsol Honda from 2024. His place, on the other hand, should go to a Fabio Di Giannantonio finally fast in this second half of the season. To throw gasoline on the fire then, it was a misconception in which Wilco Zeelenberg gave Miguel Oliveira the “girl” before being submissive of comments on social media
n principle was Massimo Rivola: 'We have a contract with all our drivers, Honda must not come and bother us'. Team Repsol, is anything but a mystery, is in fact looking for a worthy replacement (from Misano it seems) for Marc Marquez, now officially headed towards Team Gresini for 2024. Honda's managers then went to Maverick Viñales, Miguel Oliveira and who knows what other drivers. The alternative is to take Johann Zarco away from Team LCR - but for Cecchinello it could be unacceptable - or trust Iker Lecuona, currently in Superbike with Honda.
During the meetings with the press on Thursday, however, Miguel Oliveira did not seem exactly in agreement with Massimo Rivola: “We saw teams leave drivers at home despite the contract (Pol Espargarò, ed.), pilots tear up the contracts a year in advance: anything can happen”. Then he added that it is true that he has a contract for 2024 and that there is no real opinion of release. The fact remains that these days contracts are worth little, especially when the vacancy is that of Marc Marquez and the budget to pay a penalty should be there.
Before the GP then a small diplomatic incident with Simon Crafar, pit reporter Dorna: Simon asks Wilco Zeelenberg, Team Manager of Aprilia RNF, for information on the choice of Miguel and Raul's tires. Crafar has a strong Irish accent, Zeelenberg doesn't hear too well and replies: “As for the girl I don't know, Raul is on average.” A media case quickly emerges on the 'sexest' comment of the former pilot towards the Portuguese, arousing yet another (crazy) wave of attacks on social media. Later it was those directly interested to clarify the dynamics of what happened with lots of photos together, yet the idea that something broke between Miguel Oliveira and his team is more than a feeling. As it is more than a feeling that Fabio Di Giannantonio, now growing vertically in the last GPs, has found a saddle for 2024.
