Muito provavelmente quase todas as marcas paralelamente aos desenvolvimento dos novos V8 continuaram a evolução dos seus carros V10, numa de ver o que dava..

Porque se os V10 se mostrarem numa primeira fase mais performantes que os V8 não me parece que muitas equipas mergulhem de cabeça nos V8, até porque os V8 terão que ser bem mais rotativos para desenvolver a mesma potencia dos V10.. E os V10 agora limitados podem igualar um V8 prai as 16 mil rotações ou menos.. Ou seja, como os motores cada vez têm que durar mais, não sei até que ponto não é uma boa aposta os V10..

Mas esperemos para ver.. No passado já assim foi. Quando se baniu os turbos, deu-se uma epoca de adaptação em que se podia usar motores turbos desde que limitados. E mesmo limitados, as equipas que apostaram neles venceram tudo..

Less power means less work for the rear end
Renault has spent the week working at Barcelona to adapt to the demands of the 2006 regulations. Test driver Franck Montagny talks of the restricted engine power and how that affects the setup and driving style.

What are your first impressions of the power levels you tested with this week in preparation for the change in engine regulations in 2006?
"Having been used to the power of the V10 and its aggressiveness at certain points in the rev range, the power reduction can seem a little bit disappointing, it’s true. We will lose around 20% of the engine power, but it is mainly the way we use the engine that is different. It seems more consistent, as we have lost some of the excess power that you sometimes felt at high revs with the V10."

Does the reduction in power have consequences for the car’s handling?
"The engine is a central parameter in the chassis set-up. So any change has an impact, and that is what we have been working on this week. This year, with the V10, we were very much focused on the behaviour and wear at the rear of the car, because the high engine power meant that the rear tyres were working very hard in the high speed corners. Now though, with the restricted engine, we have seen that the rear is now less critical, and that we are concentrating more on the front end of the car to balance the car."

Is it still just as enjoyable to drive the car, even with this level of power?
"I think so, in spite of the reduced power, and we are only at the beginning of our work. At the start of 2005, when the new aero regulations were introduced, the drivers were all generally a bit disappointed because the cars were more sensitive and harder to drive, but as we brought out new developments through the year, we managed to develop a very quick car – and a quick car is always fun to drive."

"The V10 will soon be forgotten, and the new regulations will certainly shuffle the pack a bit in terms of performance. What we need to do now is understand the demands of this new challenge faster, and better, than our rivals."

Ansioso por saber os resultados do Autosport Awards no Domingo à noite

Tiago Monteiro ainda está a recolher os louros da temporada, mas já está preparado para regressar ao seu carro de F.1 para os testes comparativos dos propulsores Toyota V10 e V8 que a MF1 Toyota, vai realizar esta semana em Jerez de la Frontera (sul de Espanha). Mas antes disso, o piloto português que está nomeado para “Rookie of the Year” pela Revista inglesa Autosport vai estar presente amanhã, na gala onde será revelado o vencedor.

Mas o maior destaque nesta altura do ano são os prémios que têm galardoado Tiago Monteiro e honrado Portugal no estrangeiro.

A prestigiada revista mensal F1 Racing, editada em 30 países pelo Mundo em vários idiomas, nomeou Tiago Monteiro como o piloto “Rookie do ano 2005 da Formula 1. Este prémio da revista de Grandes Prémios “Best-Seller Mundial” tem uma importância acrescida, porque, Tiago Monteiro tem uma página inteira dedicada a si, que vai ser igual nas 30 edições diferentes (Dezembro).

“Evitando a habitual panóplia de erros típicos nos pilotos que se estreiam na F1, o piloto da Jordan, Tiago Monteiro, foi ao longo da temporada cada vez mais rápido e conseguirá melhor no futuro”, escreveu Matt Bishop, o próprio director da publicação.

O piloto portuense recebeu o diploma e lembra que é a terceira vez na sua carreira que recebe o prémio Rookie do Ano, mas referentes a outras disciplinas como a Porsche Carrera Cup em França, e o ano passado nas World Series by Nissan. O painel de premiados é depois alvo do comentário de 10 colaboradores da revista, que fazem a sua selecção e justificam a escolha nas diversas categorias.

Na F1 Racing, há um painel de comentadores, dez dos mais prestigiados jornalistas da especialidade, que tinham de nomear através de uma lista o Top 10 entre todas as personalidades dos desportos motorizados que mais se destacaram no último campeonato. Tiago Monteiro vê o seu trabalho ser reconhecido e foi escolhido por duas vezes:

Na lista dos 10 melhores personagens da F1 realizada pelo director da própria revista, Matt Bishop, que coloca o piloto português na 9ª posição, mas somente com dois pilotos à sua frente, Raikkonen em terceiro e Alonso no quarto lugar.

Tiago Monteiro não só se deve orgulhar de ter sido mencionado nas preferências de Bishop mas também porque ficou à frente de Michael Schumacher, a personalidade que encerrava a listagem: “Foi um estreante num carro muito fraco que soube evoluir corrida após corrida e que encerrou a temporada mais sólido e mais rápido do que o seu colega de equipa”.







Para além da grande confiança que Matt Bishop mostrou face à temporada de Tiago Monteiro, outro dos comentadores, Dom Taylor definiu a sua escolha por Tiago que aparece num honroso quinto lugar da sua lista dos 10 melhores do ano, tendo somente à sua frente Raikkonen e Alonso, como é natural, a ocupar os dois primeiros lugares. Michael Schumacher foi quarto e o piloto português aparece na quinta posição das escolhas de Dom Taylor, que justificou da forma mais simples “Tiago evoluiu muito bem durante toda a temporada”.

A revista mensal F1 Racing é impressa localmente e vendida nos seguintes 30 países: Alemanha, Austrália, Brasil, China, Croácia, Checa (Rep.), França, Grecia, Hong Kong, Hungria, Índia, Indonésia, Itália, Japão, América Latina, Malásia/Singapura, Médio Oriente, Holanda, Filipinas, Polónia, Roménia, Rússia/Ukrania, Africa do Sul – Afrikaans, Africa do sul – Inglês; Espanha, Taiwan, Turquia, USA/Canadá; Inglaterra.

Normalmente o comprador «anónimo» de lotes inteiros da McLaren e Williams ao longo dos anos tem sido o lorde de Goodwood, que tem um museu impressionante dedicado à F1 «inglesa».

Loeb venceu a Corrida dos Campeões (sábado) ao bater na final Tom Kristensen.

Nas meias finais Heikki Kovalainen (vencedor de 2004) foi superado por Tom Kristensen e Sebastien Loeb bateu Marcus Gronholm.

Massa, Jeff Gordon e Colin McRae ficaram-se pelos quartos de final.

The new Midland Formula One team are preparing to step up development with Bridgestone in a bid to hit the ground running ahead of an intensive winter testing programme.

Team owner Alex Shnaider bought Jordan Grand Prix at the start of this season and have run and developed the team under its original name before re-naming the team MF1 Racing last month.

With the new name will come an increase in commitment to push the team forward and Team Principal Colin Kolles said: "It is a completely different approach for next year, more testing, a new look, everything is changed. This will be a new team with the right people. We have 90 percent or 95 percent of the right people here and we hope that we will improve. This is our aim, to do a better job than this year."

"We have a lot of things in place to do that. We are working on a new car, new projects, bits and pieces, the workshop, the structure. We did a lot of work this year and I think we are not that bad at the moment with the structure."

Kolles said the team are updating the headquarters at Silverstone as part of their long-term development and they are already well on the way to completing their new 2006 car design.

Midland has joined Formula One with a view to making the team a profitable one, and to do that they recognise it must be successful both on the track and also in the business boardroom.

This season has been a struggle, but extra resources have been invested in the team to ensure a much better showing next year.

"We hope to get regular points next year, that is our ambition," said Kolles. "The ultimate aim is to win, but you have to be realistic. I am not going to say we will win a race in five years because it depends on a lot of things."

"Also, Midland is a privately owned company; it has no consumer brand like Red Bull does, so the strategy is to make it a successful running business, that is the point, so we have a different approach to this."

"Every team has to be financially successful, this is also one of the important things for us because we have to generate money, it is not as if the manufacturer is paying us money."

"So right now it is almost impossible to win except in special events like heavy rain or something like that, when something different happens, because under normal circumstances you cannot really compete with the manufacturers."

"It is just a matter to be at the right time at the right place. But I am enjoying it here, everything is bigger, more important, there is more press, there is more everything."

This season saw Jordan driver Tiago Monteiro, of Portugal, finish in all but one Grand Prix, better than the rest of the field, and claim a podium in the United States Grand Prix as well as a hard-earned point in the Belgian Grand Prix.

But most importantly for Kolles, the season has been one where Midland has successfully built up a team of engineers and management equipped to take the team forward.

And asked if the 2005 season has been a useful one, Kolles said: "From my point of view, yes. Some people say it would have been better to build up the team from scratch but I think now the team is in better shape than last year."

One of the things learned this year is how to develop the working relationship with Bridgestone, and Kolles has been particularly impressed with the Japanese tyre firm's involvement.

He added: "We have a close relationship with Bridgestone, we are very happy with them. They have had some hard times this year but we have to fight together and bring back the results.

"That is the point, a Bridgestone team has won the world championship seven times in the last eight years so one year is a bad year but next year could be a good year. I think we will be able to help them.

"We will start testing in December, not the end of February like this year, so that is already three month's advantage, which is quite a lot of time in Formula One."

Olivier Panis, agora piloto de testes e desenvolvimento da Toyota, revelou que os novos V8 apresentam um problema de vibrações muito intensas nas 12000 rpm que a Toyota já superou.

Panis diz ainda que os F1 V8 são ser 4 a 5s mais lentos em Monza que os F1 de 2005 e 1.5 a 2s nos circuitos convencionais.

Panis afirma ainda que o som dos V8 é uma decepção que o tempo disfarçará, assim como se passou na transição dos V12 para os V10.

Finalmente, Panis revela que o potencial dos V8 é enorme e que não demorará muito tempo para pulverizarem os tempos dos V10 se outras modificações radicais não forem impostas.

Portuguese F1 driver Tiago Monteiro was selected as Rookie of the Year by British magazine Autosport, in a evening gala yesterday in London.

Driving a modest Jordan Toyota, Monteiro finished 18 of the 19 races this year and even scored points by taking third place in the controversial US Grand Prix.

Tiago also added a point to his tally by finishing a brilliant eighth at the Belgian Grand Prix. His only retirement happened in Brazil but it was related to a mechanical problem.

1979 World Champion Jody Scheckter gave the trophy to the young Portuguese driver, who was obviously very pleased : “It was an unexpected season, really. To start in F1 is always so difficult, more than you can imagine. I had a lot to learn but I had a great team around me. I have to thank them for the reliability of the car all year. I hope to do even better next year.”

Kimi Raikkonen was crowned International Racing Driver of the Year ahead of Fernando Alonso at last night's prestigious Autosport Awards, which is voted for by readers of the magazine.

The Finn attended the event in London to collect the trophy, which was presented by former World Champion Nigel Mansell.

On receiving his award, Kimi discussed his highlights of the year, "I guess all the wins for sure. The Japanese Grand Prix was one of the great moments, and Monaco was a good place to win. It could have been better this season but I am happy. It is always exciting to fight, and of course we wanted to win, but that is part of the game - and still it was one of the best years for me in Formula One."

McLaren Mercedes also won the Racing Car of the Year with the MP4-20.

Ron Dennis collected the award on behalf of the team, "I'm a bit mystified why I'm up here because there are so many people behind this Grand Prix car. It doesn't matter whether it is rallying or Grand Prix racing - it is hard to win.

"McLaren Racing has a team of 136 engineers and designers and they designed the car using a matrix system with cross functional responsibilities. All of this talent is what goes on behind us and I'm here to take the award for them. One person I have to acknowledge is Adrian Newey, who has got a challenge ahead of him and I wish him well."

"This season was a great battle and I have to complement Pat Symonds and Renault, who started the season very well by winning the first three races and the last."

Era evidente para a maioria das pessoas que seguiu a F1 em 2005.

Não sei porque causou isto tanto incómodo a algumas pessoas, já que quando nos anos em que Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve e Mika Hakkinen foram campeões, Schumacher, ainda assim, foi considerado o melhor piloto nessas temporadas e ninguém se incomodou.

Tiago Monteiro ganhou o prêmio de Revelação do Ano da revista "Autosport". O piloto, que fez sua primeira temporada na F-1 pela Jordan, agradeceu, no bom português local, ao momento que considerou um dos mais valiosos da carreira. Confira na íntegra a mensagem do lusitano:

"Ontem na Gala da Revista britânica 'Autosport', vivi dos momentos mais importantes da minha carreira, ao ser chamado para subir ao palco para receber o 'Autosport Rookie of the Year Award'. Foi verdadeiramente emocionante e importante para mim e também para Portugal.

No Desporto Automóvel Mundial, este Prêmio é de grande importância. O meu trabalho realizado no Jordan Toyota proporcionou-me ser um dos nomeados, mas para ser considerado o vencedor, tive uma fortíssima votação de amigos e fãs, que me elegeram. Estou-lhes reconhecido pelo este apoio que foi decisivo. Muito obrigado.

Quando fui chamado ao palco para receber este troféu, senti muito orgulho em ser português e em representar o nosso país.
