      VW Golf VII

It’s time to face the future at Volkswagen! The MkVI Golf has only just gone on sale, but the firm is already working on its replacement, due in 2012 – two years sooner than anticipated.

Our illustrations show how the MkVII is likely to look. And as usual with VW’s most important model, the styling is evolutionary.

But it’s under the skin where this model plans to break new ground – leading the way in how cars of the future will be made.

Reports suggest the MkVII will differ so radically from its predecessor that it bears comparison to the giant leap Ford made from the Escort to the Focus in 1998.

Bucking the trend for ever-increasing dimensions and kerbweights, the newcomer will rely on a smaller platform than the current car, with many components borrowed from the forthcoming Polo. Lightweight body panels will reduce weight, so similar performance can be achieved from smaller-capacity forced-induction engines. And diesels are expected to make up an even bigger percentage of sales than at present.

VW’s highly efficient twin-clutch DSG gearbox will be offered across the range as well, while advances in its resilience mean high-powered versions such as the GTI will benefit from seven ratios instead of six for the first time.

      Hybrid

But it’s not just conventional engineering that’s going to make the Golf the greenest in its class – the hatch is set to join the hybrid party. We tried a prototype of VW’s Twin Drive technology last year (Issue 1,024), although it won’t go into full production until the MkVII emerges.

It combines a frugal 1.5-litre diesel unit with three compact electric motors, and the plug-in drivetrain can operate on battery power alone below 31mph for around 30 miles. Above that speed, it works in tandem with the oil-burner, and takes over entirely at motorway speeds. The result is a startling 113mpg – more than twice what a standard 2.0-litre TDI can muster.

Beyond that, VW is already working on an HCCI engine – a petrol unit that thinks it’s a diesel. By ditching the spark plugs, this blends the fuel efficiency of a diesel with the cleaner emissions and free-revving nature of a petrol.

And as HCCI engines run most efficiently at constant rpm, there’s even talk of using it to extend the range on a plug-in hybrid powertrain – giving a similar set-up to the Chevrolet Volt.

But one thing is for certain: for the first time, VW’s focus will be on fuel efficiency, recyclability and environmental credentials above all else.

          Jaguar Crossover 2013
Talvez estilo BMW 5GT ou opositor ao futuro 3GT?

"It’s always fun to speculate on future models. As lot of luxury car makers have entered the SUV and Crossover segment, we believe it is very likely that Tata owned Jaguar will eventually do the same.
As Tata also owns Land Rover it is unlikely that there is going to be a SUV bearing Jaguar’s badge.

In addition to competing with Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, BMW and others it would also compete against their own Land Rover.
But there are some chances Jaguar is going to build a “crossover” vehicle, which would have a higher clearance, four-wheel-drive and more interior room than the current Jaguar X-Type Estate.
Jaguar could use Freelander’s platform and four-wheel-drive system. Top of the line models could use the all-new AJ-V8 Gen III engine, that develops 510 hp. That power combined with Jaguar’s luxury would be a nice alternative to German and Japanese SUV’s and Crossovers.
If there is such a model planned we should be seeing heavily disguised prototypes in the near future. What do you think, does the world need a Jaguar crossover?"

BMW concept F3, 3GT, PAS, em Frankfurt?

"Rumors are swirling around the Internet that a new BMW 3 Series GT Concept will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year. Many automakers are looking for new ways to attract customers. BMW has been doing this by creating cars to fill gaps in the marketplace.

It is no surprise then that BMW would look for an additional model to add to their 3 Series lineup. The 3 Series represents a large portion of worldwide BMW sales. Its creation in the 1970s doubled worldwide sales.

BMW will be paying very strict attention to the debut of the 5 Series GT, with the hope that it gets a similarly positive reaction as the release of the X5 ten years ago. In the same way that the X5 spawned a new line of vehicles for BMW, the 5er GT could lead to both a 3 Series GT and a 1 Series GT.

The 5er GT was created to appeal to older customers who want a less sporting car, but do not want the ride height of the X6. Speculation says that a 3er GT wiill appeal to those wanting the performance of BMW's most popular car, the versatility of a hatchback, and a lower ride height than the X3. Such customers could be weekend athletes and couples with one or two children.

Supposedly called the Progressive Activity Coupe, or the V3, the rear-wheel-drive 3er GT would likely have a higher roofline than the 3 Series wagon, a longer wheelbase, and a nice amount of cabin space. All-wheel-drive would be an option, and a hybrid version is also possible."

Oh my GOD!!!.

                          Render

Citing inside sources, German car magazine 'Auto Motor und Sport' is reporting that the VW Group is planning to introduce SEAT and Skoda variants of its forthcoming mid-engine roadster that will be based on the BlueSport concept unveiled at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Due to arrive sometime in 2012, VW's edition of the roadster will most likely be offered with the firm's TSI / TFSI gasoline and TDI diesel engines.
While a SEAT variant of the mid-engine roadster sounds logical given that the Spanish brand is supposed to be somewhat sporty (as long as it comes with a unique styling and a lower price tag than the VW's proposal), a Skoda version doesn't really make much sense in our opinion.
The Czech automaker has made a name for itself as a producer of reasonably priced family cars and we can't see how a two-seater roadster fits into this image. Unless VW has other plans for Skoda, producing a third variant (maybe even forth if Audi gets its own version) will only confuse the Group's buyers and most probably, lure away customers from SEAT.”

"If the new Toyota iQ is going to compete against the smart fortwo, an open-top version is going to be a necessity. We've already heard rumblings of a possible roadster based on the iQ's underpinnings, so a convertible option certainly seems possible. If renderings from Japan's Best Car are to be believed (we're not convinced), the Japanese automaker could mimic the fortwo's cabriolet style by removing the front and rear roof sections, fitting an integrated roll bar and adding a set of soft-tops.

The main advantage for the iQ has over the fortwo is the city car's extra passenger seats. Unlike the smart, Toyota's microcar manages to cram four belts into its tiny frame and a drop-top variant would make the iQ the world's smallest-ever four-seat convertible. While a credible contender to the fortwo cabrio is surely in the cards, we're still waiting to see the iQ rebadged a Scion and brought to the U.S. to truly give smart a run for its money."

                                              Skoda Roadster (continuam os rumores...)

Volkswagen-owned Skoda doesn't get much press in the U.S. but over in Central and Eastern Europe it is one of the most popular automotive brands. Having launched new versions of its mainstream Octavia and Superb sedans in the past year, the company last week took the covers if its all-new Yeti compact SUV and is still planning the reveal of even more models.

One model confirmed for production is a wagon based on the Superb flagship but according to latest reports Skoda will also launch a compact, mid-engined roadster based on the VW Bluesport concept car from January’s Detroit Auto Show.

Skoda’s traditional strength has been its affordable image but in more recent years, thanks to the infusion of design and engineering from VW, the company has grown to match the quality of the likes of Honda, Volvo and even its German parent. A sporty and affordable roadster built along the lines of the Bluesport could finally help cement Skoda’s placing among these rivals.

This computer generated rendering gives us a possible look for the new roadster model, revealing trademark Skoda features such as the descending character line on the flanks, sweeping headlights, and a horizontal bar grille. If given the green light, the car likely wouldn’t appear until after 2011. To speed up development, powertrain options would likely include current VW Group TSI and TDI four-cylinder engines mated with manual or DSG dual-clutch transmissions.

                                                VW POLO Plus

                                                      Early look: 2011 Chrysler 300

In addition to an official CGI rendering of the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler also released a photo-realistic illustration of its 2011 300 sedan, which will go on sale in mid to late 2010. The image was included as part of the company’s viability plan submitted to the U.S. Congress. The vehicle will have a drastically improved interior, and an updated exterior, which builds upon the iconic design of the original 300 series. Chrysler will also improve fuel economy of the 300 and its nearest siblign, the Dodge Charger, in order to comply with upcoming CAFE regulations.

The reigning fuel-efficient champ of the LX-platform stable is the 26 mpg (highway) 2.7-liter Dodge Charger, but the next crop of LX-based vehicles will likely top the 30 mpg mark.

In order to improve fuel economy, Chrysler engineers will focus on aerodynamics, axel ratios and drivetrains. At the heart of the improvements will be Chrysler’s all-new Phoenix family of V6 engines. The new Phoenix V6 will likely replace both V6s currently offered in the LX cars, improving both fuel economy and performance.

But the new Phoenix V6 won’t be the only big news for the 2011 Charger and 300. Chrysler is also planning to replace the cars’ four and five-speed automatic transmissions with a new eight-speed unit, rivaling Lexus for the most cogs in the business.

“These vehicles will be CAFE-positive,” Frank Klegon, Chrysler’s executive vice president of product development, told Automotive News. The next round of CAFE regulations starts in 2011, with a ramp up to 31.6 mpg by 2015.

The redesigned Dodge Charger is expected to debut before the new 300. The Charger will show up in early 2010, while the 300 will come several months later.
