Wall Street Investment Banks Interest Rate Calls For The Federal Reserve‘s Next Meeting After Silicon Valley Bank Collapse 🤯

Morgan Stanley still expects a 50bps rate hike - bold.

Evercore & J.P. Morgan expect a 25bps hike, in line with market pricing.

Goldman Sachs & Barclays expects NO rate hike at all.

But the biggest shock — Nomura expects a 25bps rate CUT and has called for the end of QT.

The market now expects rate cuts to start in July 2023 with rates ending the year at 4%, this is another drastic change in market pricing.

The two-year U.S treasury yield just recorded its one-day biggest drop since 2008, not a great omen.

The latest U.S. CPI reading comes out tomorrow and will play a big role in the next rate decision.

Do tesouro americano?

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/si...?mod=home-page

" ... The bank grew from $50 billion in assets in 2018 to $209 billion at the end of 2022.

With so much money rapidly coming in, Silicon Valley Bank had to invest the funds somewhere. It couldn’t find enough new loans to make. So the bank’s managers chose to buy long-term Treasurys and mortgage-backed securities. These were considered safe assets that paid a little bit more money than what the bank had to pay on its deposits.

This seemed like a relatively safe practice until inflation hit the economy and the outlook changed radically."

"Under the new program, banks can pledge their bonds at face value to the Fed in return for cash. That means banks don’t have to mark these assets to the market price."

" ... By now, it is relatively clear what happened at Silicon Valley Bank. A pandemic bull run inflated the value of tech startups and the funds of investors, resulting in a tripling of deposits at the regional bank that specializes in the industry’s fledgling companies, from $62 billion at the end of 2019 to $189 billion at the end of 2021. SVB wanted to put that money to work, so it bought up U.S. Treasury and mortgage bonds that would take years to mature but serve as a relatively safe place to park its cash—as long as interest rates didn’t rise."
